본고는 사회적 갈등의 해소와 사회발전과 통합, 창의적 인재양성의 매개로 주목 받고 있는 문화예술교육에서 공예교육의 교육적 의의와 목표를 통하여 공예의 통합적 특성을 제고하고, 2016년 전면 시행되는 중학교 자유학기제의 교육활동에서 문화예술 공예교육이 가지는 교육적 역할과 운용 가능성을 연구하는 것이다. 자유학기제 교육활동에서 예술과목과 타 교과간의 융합수업의 강화는 공예가 가지고 있는 통합적 속성들을 기반으로 한 문화예술 공예교육의 목적 및 목표와 같은 지향점을 가진다. 공예교육의 통합적 속성은 다른 교과 간 연계·융합교육과 체험·참여형 교육으로 타 학문과의 통합적 지식을 구축하여 미래의 문화를 읽고 창조하는 능력을 배양할 수 있다.
본 연구에서는 자유학기제 운영방안을 기조로 자유학기제 문화예술 공예교육활동에 대한 수업사례와 제안을 통하여 문화예술 공예교육으로 학생들의 행복한 미래를 설계 할 수 있는 확장된 사고와 창의적 능력을 함양 할 수 있도록 하고 그 과정 안에서 자기 주도적으로 스스로의 미래를 위한 진로를 탐색할 수 있는 기회와 능력을 키워 줄 수 있도록 하는 것이다. 본 연구에서 제시되어진 문화예술교육의 관점에서의 공예교육의 사례와 효용성은 공예교육을 중심으로 한 일부라 할 수 있으며 보다 많은 형태의 자유학기제 교육활동을 위한 문화예술 공예교육에 대한 모색과 연구가 후속되어야 할 것이다.

The objective of this study is not only to raise the integrated characteristics of craft through the educational meaning and goals of craft education in culture & art education, grabbing attention as a medium of settling social conflicts, social development/combination and fostering creative talent, but also to examine the possibility of operation and educational roles of culture & art craft education of free-learning semester in middle school which will be fully executed in 2016. Strengthening the convergence classes between art subject and other subjects in the educational activities of free-learning semester is aiming at the same objectives and goals of culture & art craft education based on the integrated attributes of craft. With the connecting/convergence education with other subjects and experience/participating education, the integrated attributes of craft education can cultivate the capacity of reading and creating culture of the future by establishing the integrated knowledge with other studies.
Through the suggestion and class cases of culture & art craft educational activities of free-learning semester, this study aims to make sure that students can develop the extended ideas and creative ability to design the happy future with culture & art craft education, and also to raise their ability and the opportunities to explore the future career self-directly. The utility and cases of craft education in the aspect of culture & art education suggested by this study can be a part of craft education. It should be followed by more studies on culture & art craft education for the educational activities of free-learning semester in more various forms.
