본 연구는, 컴퓨터를 중심으로 한 디지털 테크놀로지의 발달로 인해 다변화 되고 있는 사회적 요구에 부응하는 디자인 교육체계에 대한 연구 제2보로써, 조형에 대한 깊은 통찰을 토대로 과학적 객관성과 테크놀로지의 합리성을 융합한 새로운 디자인 교육체계를 추구했던 게오르기 케페슈(Gyorgy Kepes)의 조형이론과 표현체계의 검토를 실시했다. 논고에 있어서는. 케페슈의 조형이론과 표현체계가 그래픽디자인 분야는 물론, 회화나 포토그래피 등과 같은 다양한 조형분야를 대상으로 하고 있으며, 표현영역 또한 광범위하다는 것을 주목하여, 이에 관련된 저서와 관련문헌에 대한 고찰을 실시하였다. 그 결과 케페슈의 조형이론과 표현체계는 주로, 조형의 시각적 요소와 이들의 상관관계를 해석하는 심적 요소에 대한 체계적 분석과 이를 토대로 한 조형요소의 조직적 종합화론 등을 기반으로 하고 있음이 확인되었다. 조형의 시각적 요소와 심적 요소의 상호관계에 대한 내용에서는, 비쥬얼 커뮤니케이션의 강력하고 효과적인 수단으로써, 시각을 중심으로 한 심적 메커니즘의 체계적인 분석과 활용이 강조되었다. 이러한 케페슈의 생각은 조형요소의 조직적 종합화론에서 가시화되는데, 그는 다양한 조형요소는 개별적으로 분리된 무기적인 것이 아닌, 그것들 사이에 존재한 유기적 상호관련성에 의해 해석되고 의미가 부여되어 인식된다는 것을 부각시켰다, 따라서 시각 메시지의 정확하고 효과적인 전달에는, 조형요소에 내재하는 다양한 특성의 분석과 그것들의 상호관련성에 대한 깊은 이해가 전제조건이 되는 것이다. 이와 같이 케페슈의 분석적이고 체계적인 사고를 토대로 한 조형이론과 표현체계는 테크놀로지의 급격한 발달과 함께 갈수록 다양해지고 복잡해지고 있는 사회적 요구에 부합하는 디자인 교육체계의 구축에 일정한 역할을 할 것으로 기대되어, 이에 대한 구체적인 활용 방안의 모색이 필요하다고 생각된다.

This study, as Research Report 2 on design education system to meet social needs which are being diversified due to the development of digital technology centering on the computer, performed the Art&Design theory and expression system by Gyorgy Kepes who pursued a new design education system by integrating scientific objectivity and rationality of technology on the basis of deep discernment of Art&Design. As for its argument, this study conducted the consideration of its related books and literature by taking note of the fact that Kepes's Art &Design theory and expression system are dealing with not only graphic design but also a diversity of art & design fields, such as painting, photography, as well as his far-reaching expressional areas. As a result, it was found that Kepes' Art&Design theory and expression system are based mostly on visual elements of art &design and systematic analysis of psychological elements interpreting the correlation of visual elements, and, on the basis of which, organizational comprehensivization theory of Art& Design elements. As for the contents about the interrelation between the visual elements and psychological element in Art & Design, the theory put its emphasis on the systematic analysis and use of psychological mechanism with focus on the vision as a powerful and effective means of visual communication. Such an idea by Kepes is visualized in his organizational compensivization theory of Art& Design elements, and he highlighted the fact that a diversity of Art&Design elements are not non-organic things which are individually separated, but they are perceived through interpretations and giving significance by the organic interrelationship existent among those. Accordingly, the analysis of a variety of characteristics, which inhere in Art&Design elements, and deep understanding of their interrelationship become a precondition for more accurate and effective conveyance of visual messages.It is hoped that Kepes's Art & Design theory and expression system based on his analytical and systematic thinking like this could play a steady role in establishing the design education system that can meet the social needs which are getting more diversified and complicated together with sharp development of technology; accordingly, this study thinks that it's necessary to inquire into the concrete plan to use of it.
