Both expansion joints under temperature load and bridge bearings are frequently damaged by insufficient laying space generated by temperature expansion. There are some types of breakage, such as the crack in non-shrink mortar, fracture of bearing anchor bolt, and the damage caused longitudinal direction movement. This study presents a comparative approach to how much temperature load in curved bridge has effect on pot bearings and isolation bearings. Though the deflection of the two kinds of bearings is a little different, the reaction force on isolation bearings is much smaller than the other ones.
The study concludes that isolation bearings are more suitable for diminishing the possibility of damage.
