본 논문의 목적은 교회사 속의 교회가 보편적 교회(Catholic Church)와 프로테스탄트 교회(Protestant Church)로 변화를 겪는 동안에 끊임없이 갈등의 요인으로 등장했던 재세례파의 신앙과 이념의 배경을 연구함으로써 현대 교회와 선교에서 사실상 입교의 수속 절차로 전락해 있는 세례의 본질을 일깨우고, 그 본질을 교회와 선교의 중심 동력으로 복권시켜 새 선교 패러다임으로 제시하는 데 있다. 왜냐하면 오늘날의 국내외 선교 생태 환경이 마치 재세례파들이 출몰했던 교회사 적 시기와 거의 흡사한 상황에 우리를 직면시키고 있기 때문이다. 따라서 본 논문은 우선 우리가 실행하고 있는 세례를 삶의 자리로 인식함으로써 그것이 왜 본질로서 작동하지 못하는가에 대해 정리할 것이다. 그리고 그 과정에서 도출된 문제와 인식의 틀을 가지고서 교회사 속 특정 구간을 읽을 것인데, 거기에서 우리는 ‘재세례’라고 부르는 용어와 그것을 직접 실천했던 실행 공동체들과 만난다. 그리하 여 재세례파라고 불린 그 행위의 급진성, 그리고 그것이 이단으로 규정 받기까지의 과정 속에서 드러낸 또 하나의 삶의 자리(Sitz imLeben)를 도출할 것이다. 그것은 마치 우리가 오늘날 교회 환경에서 맞닥뜨리는 교회 자신의 외침과 유사성이 있기 때문이다. 이 같은 제 과정은 본 논문이 꾀하고자 하는 방법적 틀이기도 하며, 그 모든 방법적 과정이 마칠 즈음에 재세례라고 하는 이 특별한 용어에 함의된 세례의 본질과 기원이 이 시대의 새로운 적용 가능성으로 제시될 것으로 전망한다.

The purpose of this paper is to awake the nature of baptism which has merely fallen as an entering procedure for the door to a quantitative thriving church, by studying Anabaptist and its idealogical background, then is to restore the nature of baptism to the enhanced authority so as to provide it as new mission paradigm in contemporary churches. The issue has constantly appeared as a conflict factor after the Reformed Church had transformed from the Catholic Church. Because the environment of the missionary, which is degraded of being a quantitative thriving church, might have taken us to where Anabaptists had appeared in the period of the Reformation. Therefore, at first this paper will dispose and reflect on why it doesnot work as the nature by recognizing baptism that we are practicing as the position of life. And with the issue revealing in the press and the frame of recognition I will look into a certain section in church history, there we will meet with the term called ‘anabaptism’ and execution communities that was trying to put it into practice directly. So this paper will deduce another position of life where had brought out in the press until it was treated as a heresy because of the radicalism of the conduct. Because it has a similarity with a church itself cry that we encounter in today’s church environment. All press as this is the methodical frame that this paper tries to purpose; by the time I finish all the methodical press, I will expect to be provided with new possibility of application through this―the nature and origin of the baptism that included in this special term called anabaptism.
