본 연구의 목적은 가출청소년의 현황과 서비스에 대하여 살펴보고 가출청소년에 대한 욕구와 문제를 탐색하고 가출청소년을 위한 정책의 방향을 제시하는 데 목적이 있다. 본 연구의 결과를 요약해 보면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 가출청소년의 욕구는 자립에 대한 욕구가 큰 것으로 나타났다. 가출청소년에게 있어서의 자립은 경제적 자립이 우선된다. 따라서 가출청소년의 경제적 자립을 강화할 수 있는 시스템이 마련되어야 한다. 둘째, 가출청소년에 대한 학업지원이 이루어져야 한다. 가출청소년들은 정규학교에서 이탈하여 적절한 진로정보를 접할 기회가 부족하고 있어 제대로 된 안정된 직업을 구하는 것이 일반 청소년보다 더 어려운 실정이다. 따라서 이들의 학업지속에 대한 대안마련이 시급하다. 셋째, 가출청소년쉼터의 역량이 강화되어야 한다. 심각하고 다양화 되어져가는 가출청 소년의 사회문제에 적절하게 대응할 수 있도록 지지체계가 강화되어야 한다.

The purpose of this study is to look into the status of teenage runaways and the services related, to explore what those teenage runaways desire with related situations and finally to suggest the directions for policies to the problems related to those teenage runaways. Summarized notes for the study is as followings： First, it was found that those teenagers have desires to be independent on living. Being economically independent is an utmost importance for them. Therefore, there must be systems so support such security for those teenagers. Second, Academic support on those teenagers must be provided. As they lack of having chances to set their careers as most of them were rejected from formal education systems, it is realized that those have more difficulties than other teens in having jobs. Therefore, it is desperately required to setup and execute measures and policies to support them in this matter. Third, the capability of temporary housing must be strengthened. There must be supportive systems to back up to deal with social problems and difficulties those teens encounter as those problems are getting more serious and delicate in its manner.
