영화와 불교의 만남이란 주제는 광의로 영화와 사상의 만남이라는 인문학 적 성찰로 답해야 한다. 그것은 불교영화라는 틀이 좁아지지 않고, 적극적이 며 개방적인 자세로 넓어지는 것과 일치한다. 영화와 불교의 주제가 영화와 사상의 주제로 넓어질 때 영화는 종교, 사상, 신화, 문화 전반에 걸쳐 확대된 다. 불교영화가 기여한 중요한 것 중 하나는 그 이미지가 불교적 교리를 은유 화한다는 점이다. 영화적 이미지는 불교의 유식사상(唯識思想)을 근거로 한 다. 유식사상에 의하면 인간의 궁극적 깨달음은 제 팔식(八識)의 깨달음에 있 다고 본다. 영화가 기반하고 있는 세계는 육근(六根)의 작용에 의한 육식(六 識)의 단계 중 안식(眼識)과 이식(耳識), 의식(意識)과 제7식 말나식의 단계에 서 작용한다고 본다. 하지만 마지막 단계인 제8식 아뢰야식으로 나아가기 위 한 영화는 그 안에서 각자 모색되고 있다고 봐야 한다. 한국영화 속에 흐르는 사상적 특징은 유교, 불교, 도교 및 샤머니즘의 구원 관이 종합화된 모습을 보인다. 그것은 일종의 혼종문화적이며 통합문화적 성 격(syncretism)을 띤다고 볼 수 있다. 서양영화에 보이는 신화적 세계는 곧 종교적 세계와 통하고 종교는 평등하다는 점에서, 기독교 사상으로만 이해할 게 아니라, 석가모니의 사상으로도 해석될 수 있는 원초적인 신화영웅 영화 들이 많다. 영웅과 적대자의 갈등의 드라마는 그대로 불교의 불이사상이다. 스마트 정보화시대가 가속화될수록 인간 내면의 성숙에 대한 요구는 더욱 치 열해진다. 영화는 일상의 모든 현상을 다양한 플랫폼을 통해 철학적, 정치적, 문화적으로 소비한다. 정보화 시대에 영화는 어쩌면 그 중심에 놓여 있다고 봐 야 한다. 요즘 인문학이 다시 부활하고 있다. 영화는 인문학의 학제 간 융합적 인 측면을 가장 잘 견지해 온 매체라는 특별함이 있다. 영화가 담고 있는 불교 사상은 정보화 시대에 그대로 담겨 이동한다고 보면 된다. 정보화와 영화가 두 개가 아니듯, 정보화와 불교도 두 개는 아닌 것이다.

The subject, the encounter of Buddhism and Film, is widely answered as the meeting of Film and Thought in terms of liberal arts and humanities. That's because the frame of buddhism film is not narrow, but open and positive. When the matter of buddhism and film comes toward the meaning of film and thought, the film gets closer to religion, thought, myth, and overall cultural region. One of the things that buddhism films has contributed is what its image is allegorized in buddhistic theory. Buddhistic film image is based on Yogacara Thought. According to Yogacara Thought, the final enlightenment of humankind is on the awakening of the eighth consciousness. The world of film is acted on the stage of the eye-consciousness, the earconsciousness, thought-consciousness of six consciousness and the seventh consciousness, Malna consciousness. However, the film towards the final stage, the eighth consciousness, Alaya consciousness, is tried within them. The characteristics of thought in Korean films have the facets which is integrated with the view of salvation in Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism, and Shamanism. It is a kind of hybrid culture and syncretism. The mythical theme, the original mythic figure, in western movies is related in religious one and interpreted on the Buddha's thought as well as the Christianity. The drama of Hero and Villan is so the 'not-two thought' in Buddhism. Smart information era is going faster, the need of inner human maturity is growing much better. Film spends all the phenomenon of everyday life through various platforms in philosophical, political, and cultural way. Film may be on the center of the information society. Liberal Arts and Humanities is rising recently. Film has the specialty that is well sustained by the inter-disciplinary convergence. The buddhist thought in film is transferred directly to the information society. As the information and the film are not separated, the information and buddhism are not segregated.
