‘Venus Berry’ 품종은 경기도농업기술원에서 2011년도에 육성한 절화용 장미 신품종이다. 이 품종은 2006년도에 ‘Boy Friend’ 와 ‘GSR10314’ 를 교배하여 2007년도에 실 생을 양성하였다. 종자친으로 사용된 ‘Boy Friend’는 화 색이 보라색(RHS Color Chart Purple Group 76B)이며 개화소요일수는 45일이다. 화분친으로 사용된 ‘GSR10314’ 은 화색이 흐린 분홍색(RHS Color Chart Red Group 52C)이며 절화수명이 13일이다. 2008년부터 2011년까지 절화 특성검정을 실시한 결과 절화특성이 우수하여 최종 적으로 선발하여 명명하였다. 중형 스탠다드 형태의 꽃으 로서 화색은 연한 분홍색(RHS Color Chart Red Purple Group 69C)이다. 잎의 흰가루병 발생 정도는 적었다. 줄 기 10cm에 1.8개의 가시가 있으며 개화소요일수는 45일 이었으며 년간 절화수량은 194.1본/m2 이었다. 절화장 은 65.5cm이고 절화중은 36.8g이었다. 화폭 10.2cm, 화 고 4.3cm, 꽃잎수 43.6매이었으며 절화수명은 12일이었다. ‘Venus Berry’ 품종은 2013년 국립종자원에 품종보호권등 록(품종보호 제4447) 되었다.

A rose cultivar, ‘Venus Berry’ was developed at Gyeonggi-Do Agricultural Research and Extension Services (GARES) in 2011. Venus Berry was made of a cross-breed between ‘Boy Friend’, and ‘GSR10315’ in 2006, and the cross subsequently produced seedlings in 2007. One of the cross species, ‘Boy Friend’, was used as a mother plant whose botanical characteristics have purple colored flowers and high cut-flower productivity. The other cultivar ‘GSR10315’ was used as a pollen parent which has pastel pink colored flower, and its vase life was up to 13 days. After the test that examined the characteristics of the cross from 2008 to 2011, Venus Berry was finally selected and named. The characteristics of Venus Berry considered during the experiments on cross-breeding were as follows: The observable traits of Venus Berry had a standard flower type with medium size, light pink colored (RHS Color Chart Red Purple Group 69C) petals, high centered flower, and elliptical petal shape. The leaves were resistant to powdery mildew. The average number of prickles per 10 cm stem of cut-flower was 1.8. The plant required 45 days to flower, and cut flower yield was 194.1 stems/m2 in a year. Furthermore, the cut flower was 65.5 length, 36.8 g weight, and 10.2 cm diameter, 4.3 cm flower size, 43.6 petals, and 12 days vase life. ‘Venus Berry’ was registered on Korea Seed & Variety Service with No. 4447 in 2013.
