Purpose: This is intended to look into how the career identity of students majoring in optometry and optic science puts effects on major satisfaction.
Methods: A survey was conducted among 173 students majoring in optometry and optic science in Gwangju and Chonnam province. The collected data utilized IBM SPSS Statistics 22 to implement frequency analysis, descriptive statistics quantity, reliability analysis, factor analysis and multiple regression analysis.
Results: The survey indicated that 65(37.6%)students, the highest number, were motivated by career prospects when choosing the optometry and optic science as their major, whereas 76(43.9%)respondents showed a high dependence on their academic adviser with whom they wish to be counseled for their career path. All factors such as major career identity(β=.490, p<0.01), job career identity(β=.225, p<0.05) and self career identity(β=.175, p<0.05) turned out to have significant results in terms of satisfaction to major prospects. All factors such as major career identity(β=.233, p<0.05), job career identity(β=.180, p<0.1) and self career identity(β=.452, p<0.01) had significant effects on major satisfaction. Job career identity(β=.259, p<0.05) presented significant results in satisfaction to life in academic course, whereas major and career identity as well as self career identity did not have effects on satisfaction to life in academic course. Conclusions: As major and career identity, job and career identity and self career identity were higher, satisfaction to major prospects and major education showed a higher level.
