시진핑(習近平) 중국 국가주석의 1인 지도체제 강화가 중국 언론에는 어떤 식으로 나타나 고 있으며, 시 주석으로의 권력 집중화 현상은 어느 정도까지 노골적으로 이루어지고 있는가. 본 논문은 이러한 궁금증을 확인하기 위해 중국 언론의 전형인 인민일보 1면 보도 내용을 분 석해 보았다. 시 주석의 권력 장악 정도를 파악하기 위해서, 1997년 2월 덩사오핑 사망 이후 정적을 제거하고 핵심 권력을 모두 장악하면서 최고 권력자로 군림했던 장쩌민(江澤民) 전 주석을 비교 대상으로 삼아 두 사람의 언론 노출 빈도와 취급 기사의 가치 평가 등 양적·질 적 분석을 통해 권력의 집중 여부를 확인해 보았다. 그 결과 시진핑 주석의 인민일보 1면 뉴 스 출현 빈도는 물론 1면 주요 기사 분석과 1면 사진 분석에서도 장쩌민 주석보다 각각 두 배 이상 늘어나 두 지도자의 권력 독점 정도에 확연한 차이를 보였다. 이러한 인민일보 보도 태도는 그동안 권력의 1인 집중에 따른 폐단을 경계하기 위해 집단지도체제를 유지해온 중국 공산당내 권력 구도가 집단지도체제에서 1인지도체제로 변화하고 있음을 방증하고 있다. 따 라서 시진핑 주석의 이러한 권력 독점은 앞으로도 중국의 외교문제 뿐 아니라 북한 핵문제와 한반도 통일 문제, 그리고 한중 관계 발전에서도 시 주석 개인의 정치관과 외교관, 그리고 세 계관이 상당한 영향력을 발휘할 것이라는 추론이 가능하다. 이 때문에 시 주석의 권력 독점 정도와 개인의 성향에 대한 더욱 깊이 있는 연구가 진행되어야 할 것으로 판단된다.

How would the strengthening of Xi Jinping’s one-man leadership affects to Chinese media’s the toward reporting and his centralization of power plumply is achieved in the media. To clarify this issue, the paper analyzes front page coverage of The People's Daily which is a standard of Chinese media. Jiang Zemin, who reigned over the country as a man of supreme power as he eliminated the political opponents after the death of Deng Xiaoping in February 1997 and seized the main power, was used as a comparison to apprehend the extent of Xi Jinping's seizure of power. This paper demonstrates whether or not the political authority is centralized through quantitative and qualitative analysis of Xi Jinping's and Jiang Zemin's frequency of exposure to media and the valuation of reports treating them. As a result of this research, the analysis of main articles and photos of front page as well as the frequency of the appearance of Xi Jinping at front page of The People's Daily showed that Xi Jinping appeared more than twice as much as Jiang Zemin. Regarding this result, the two leaders' extents of monopolizing power demonstrates the big gap. The People's Daily's attitude towards reporting indirectly proves that the power structure of The Communist Party of China, which had been maintaining a collective leadership system for the purpose of preventing negative effects occurred by the concentration of power, is turning into a one-man leadership system. Consequently, it can be inferred that monopolization of power would strongly influence China's foreign affairs, problems related to unification of Korean Peninsula and North Korea's nuclear, and the development of relations between South Korea and China with Xi Jinping's personal political and diplomatic view. Therefore, a deeper level of studies related to the extent of Xi Jinping's monopolization of power and his individual personality should be conducted.
