본 연구는 중학생의 체육활동 참여가 다문화 수용성에 미치는 영향을 확인하고, 두 변수 의 관계에 자아존중감의 매개효과를 검증하였다. 이를 위하여 본 연구에서는 한국아동․청 소년패널데이터(KCYPS) 중에서 중 1패널 3차년도 자료를 활용하였으며, 연구대상인 총 2,259명의 중학교 3학년을 최종분석에 포함하였다. 자료분석은 기술통계분석, 상관분석, 적 합도검증, 경로분석을 하였다. 그 결과 첫째, 중학생의 체육활동 참여가 자아존중감에 영향 을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며 둘째, 자아존중감이 중학생의 다문화 수용성에 영향을 미치 는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째 중학생의 체육활동 참여가 다문화 수용성과의 관계에서 자아존 중감이 부분매개 역할을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 청소년의 다문화 수 용성을 증진시키기 위하여, 다문화가정 자녀, 지역사회 등을 고려한 통합적 체육활동 교육 개발과 정책적 지원 마련의 필요성을 제기한다.

This study aims to explore the effects of physical activities on students’ multicultural acceptance and to examine the mediating effects of self-esteem on the relationship between the two variables. To achieve this, third wave data from the KCYPS carried out by the NYPI were analyzed. A total of 2,259 students, all in the third year of middle school, were included in this study. The findings of the study were as follow. First, middle school students’ participation in physical activities was positively correlated with self-esteem. Second, middle school students’ self-esteem was related to a high level of middle school students’ multicultural acceptance. Third, a variable of self-esteem played a role in mediating the effects between participation in physical activities and middle school students’ multicultural acceptance. Consequently, this study is expected to contribute to developing physical education curricula and creating policies that demonstrate an understanding of the needs of mixed-ethnicity children born from multicultural families in order to increase the levels of middle school students’ multicultural acceptance.
