His imagery of the tower is a roundabout means to connect actuality and dreaming, this world and an ideal world, the present and the past, laymen and sages. Relying on Berkeleyan idealism and emphasizing the importance of the Irish traditions, he may have wished to restore the romantic Ireland with a dualistic view of a dream and actuality.
