본 논문은 오늘날 한국교회의 가장 중요한 선교지는 북한이며 또한 가장 중요한 선교적 과제는 평화적 통일이라는 전제아래 한반도의 평화적 통일을 위해 기독교의 역할과 사명이 무엇인지를 고찰하는 것이다. 전쟁의 위험이 상존하는 한반도에서 한국교회는 평화적 통일의 당위성을 성경과 그리스도의 비폭력 평화 사상에서 찾아야 한다. 없어 야 할 전쟁 그러나 인류의 시작부터 지금까지 끊임없이 계속되어 온 전쟁에 대해서 역사적으로 기독교는 어떤 태도와 입장을 취해 왔는지 되짚어 볼 주제이다. 또한 우리민족의 분단역사에서 한국교회는 통일과 관련해서 어떤 노력과 태도를 취했었는지 그리고 전쟁에 대한 두 견해 (정전론과 평화주의) 사이에서 어떻게 하나님의 뜻을 대변해 왔는지에 대한 반성적 고찰이 필요하다. 역사적으로 정의로운 전쟁(정전론)으로 포장되어 발생했던 재난이 한반도에서 재발되지 않도록 초기 기독교가 보여주었던 평화주의 사상을 보전하는 것은 한국교회에 평화적 통일을 위해 선행되어야 할 우선적 과제이다. 특히 정교분리, 교회와 국가의 바른 관계, 평화와 비폭력 등의 용어 등에 나타난 기독교 평화주의 원칙들이 잘 전수되어야 할 것이다.

The biggest missionary task of the Korean church in the Korean peninsula, in the face of the ever-present danger of war is to achieve a peaceful unification. The Korean church should find the legitimacy and basis for peaceful unification with the idea of non-violence as represented in the Bible and by Christ. War is a long way from the essence of the teachings of Jesus Christ that state: ‘love your neighbor as yourself,’ and also completely contradict the sacrifice of Jesus Christ who chose to die on behalf of sinners. The attitude Christianity has clung to about war, which should be eliminated but has coexisted since the beginning of mankind, can be a notable subject to be studied. In addition, the attitudes adopted by the Korean church to represent God’s will, over the years of division and war, need to be considered and reflected upon. The top priority of the Korean church in terms of its missionary efforts with regard to North Korea is to maintain the ideals of pacifism that are reflected in the early history of Christianity.
