목적 : 본 연구는 등쪽 손목 스프린트(dorsal wrist splint) 적용이 경직성 편마비형 뇌성마비 아동의 손 기능에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위한 것이다.
연구방법 : 연구 대상은 만 8세 5개월 된 경직성 편마비형 뇌성마비 여자 아동이었으며 개별실험 연구방법(single-subject experimental research design) 중 ABA 설계를 사용하였다. 등쪽 손목 스프린트는 12주 동안 매일 하루 평균 4시간 동안 착용 하도록 하였고, 스프린트를 착용한 상태에서 1시간씩 주 3회 환측 손으로 작업치료를 받도록 하였다. 대상자의 손 기능은 기초선 과정(5회)과 치료 과정(12회), 기초선 회귀 과정(3회) 동안 상자와 나무토막 검사(Box & Block Test)와 수직선 그리기 검사(Vertical Line Drawing Test)를 사용하여 측정하였다.
결과 : 대상자의 손 기능은 기초선 기간보다 치료 기간 동안 향상되었으며 이 향상은 기초선 회귀 과정 동안에도 계속 지속되었다.
결론 : 등쪽 손목 스프린트는 경직성 편마비형 뇌성마비 아동의 환측 손 기능을 향상시키는데 효과적이며, 손목의 외부적 지지를 통해 손가락 움직임의 조절을 향상시키는 것으로 나타났다.

Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of dorsal wrist splint on hand function in a child with spastic hemiplegic cerebral palsy.
Methods : The subject was a girl who is 8 years 5month old and this study was a single-subject experimental research with ABA design, 'A' being the baseline phase and 'B' the experimental phase. Dorsal wrist splint was applied 4hours/ day during 12 weeks. With the splinting, the child received 1 hour of intensive occupational therapy three times per week. The affected hand functions of subject were assessed by the Box and Block Test and the Vertical Line Drawing Test.
Results : The average of the subject's hand function tests were improved at experimental phase more than initial baseline phase, and the tests average of the subject on second baseline phase were improved more than initial baseline phase.
Conclusion : The results indicated that dorsal wrist splint was effective method to improve hand function in child with spastic hemiplegic cerebral palsy, and efficacious to control finger movements through the external support of the splint.
