2015년 4월 25일 네팔 카트만두 인근 고르카에서 진도 7.8의 강진이 있었고, 9000명에 가까운 희생자가 나왔고, 60만 채의 건물이 손상을 입었다. 이 연구는 이전 다른 국가들에서의 대응과 여러 면에서 달랐던 네팔의 한국인 타문화권 사역자들이 지진 피해를 어떻게 대응했는지를 살펴보았다. 이 질문에 답하기 위해 다음 3가지 질문들을 했다. 과연 2015년 네팔 지진의 영향은 어느 정도였는가? 네팔 어부회는 큰 자연 재해 뒤에 무엇을 했는가? 이 자연 재앙에 대응한 네팔 어부회의 활동의 특징들은 무엇인가? 이상의 질문들을 통해 이 연구는 네 가지 특징들을 발견할 수 있었다. 이들은 깊은 공동체 의식을 가지고 있었고, 의사소통을 일원화 했고, 구호와 복구 활동에서 교회보다는 지역 사회를 우선했고, 현대 온라인 통신 수단을 효과적으로 사용했다.

Korean Christians’ response to the 2015 Nepal earthquake seems different from their work for other disasters. No proper studies have been done to look at the character of the response of KCCWs to this major natural disaster. Since 2004, the Korean church has responded to several massive natural disasters in foreign lands on a larger scale than before. Usually, the Korean church went to a disaster area independently, without much coordination with other parties, and provided relief and rehabilitation. Since there were possibilities of ineffectiveness and redundancy of resources, this study sought to understand how Korean Christians responded to the 2015 Nepal earthquake. The following questions were asked for this study: What was the extent of the 2015 Nepal earthquake? What did the fellowship of KCCWs in Nepal do after the massive natural disaster? What is the character of their response to this catastrophic event?
