이 글은 1966년 시작된 한국교회사학회가 1999년까지 이룩한 역사를 성장과 발전이라는 측면에서 살펴보고 있다. 전체적으로 육하원칙의 틀에 따른 보고의 형식을 따르면서, 우선 창립시기의 인물과 학회의 활동을 시간 순으로 구성하고 있다. 그리고 학회가 하였던 일들을 민경배 교수의 언급에 따라, 연구발표회, 자료집 발행, 학회지 간행 등으로 나누어 살펴본다. 마지막으로, 이를 위해 어떻게 학회의 재정이 모이고 지출되었는지를 점검 하고 있다. 아울러 이 글은 연구과정에서 제기한 논의 틀로 재구성한 몇 개의 표를 포함하고 있다. 본 연구는 한국교회사학회의 초기의 성장과 발전은 한국에서 교회역사 를 공부하고 가르치는 학자들을 통하여 이루어졌다는 것을 지적한다. 초대 회장 백낙준 교수를 비롯한 이들의 헌신을 통하여 기초가 놓이고, 그 뒤를 잇는 후배와 제자들에 의해 기둥과 외양을 갖추게 되었다. 회원, 임원, 그리고 재정은 꾸준히 증가하였고, 이를 통해 연구발표회, 자료집 발간, 학회지 간행 등의 사업은 분명한 틀과 규모를 갖추게 되었다. 우선, 이 시기 한국교회사학회의 발전을 더 세밀하고 깊이 연구하기 위하여, 회원들이 개인적으로 보관하고 있는 자료를 수집하여 보완하는 것이 필요하다. 초기 한국교회사학회는 교단적인 신학적 편협성을 뛰어넘는 에큐메니컬 모임으로서의 특성을 보며, 한국사회의 민주화, 평화, 통일의 문제에 관심을 학문적으로 표현하고자 했다. 그리고 무엇보다도 회원 각자의 학문적인 관심과 연구, 그 이상으로 회원들간의 교제가 중심에 있었다.

This article examines the history of the Church History Society in Korea, which began in 1966, until 1999 in terms of growth and development. In general, following the format of the report according to the principles of 5 Ws and 1 H. it organizes chronologically the figures of the founding period and the activities of the Society. In addition, for Professor Kyung-Bae Min's comment, the Society worked for research presentations, publications, and journal publications. Finally, it examines how the funding of the Society was collected and spent. In addition, this article contains several tables that have been restructured into a discussion framework raised during the research process. This study points out that the early growth and development of the Church History Society in Korea was conducted by the scholars who study and teach church history in Korea. The foundation was established through the dedication of the first president, Professor Nak-Joon Paik, and the pillars and appearance by the juniors and disciples. Members, officers, and finances have steadily increased, and this has led to a clear framework and scale for projects such as research presentations, publications, and journal publications. Above all, in order to study the development of the Society in more detail and depth, it is necessary to collect and supplement the data that members keep personally. The Society, as an ecumenical group that goes beyond denominational theological intolerance, attempted to express academic interest in the issues of democratization, peace and unification of Korea. Finally, the fellowship between the members was centered on the academic interests and researches of each member.
