이 논문은 위켄드의 『After Hours』 의 앨범의 곡들 중에서 빌보드 차트에 진입한 ‘Heartless’와 ‘In your eyes’를 선정하고 곡에서 사용된 신디사이저의 활용에 대해서 연구하였다. 대중적으로 인기와 인지도가 있는 아티스트는 우리나라, 미국 할 것 없이 앨범 발매와 동시에 차트에 진입하게 된다. 위켄드 또한 그런 아티스트중에 한명이다. 특히 2020년 3 월에 발매된 『After hours』역시 전체 앨범중 3곡이나 빌보드 차트 TOP 100 상위권을 차지하였다. 그 곡들 중에서 ‘Heartless’는 808 베이스 사운드와 Trap 비트에 기반을 두고 있고 ‘In your eyes’는 디스코 리듬에 기반을 두고 있다. 특히 사용된 패드와 리드, 기타 효과음들에는 다양한 이펙팅 효과가 들어갔다. 여러 개의 오실레이터들의 음정의 변조를 활용한 코러스 효과, 패드 사운드에 기타 엠프 시뮬레이터를 활용한 톤 메이킹, 많은 양의 딜레이와 리버브를 활용한 사운드 메이킹, 저주파발진기를 음정에 적용함으로 사이렌 소리의 구현 등 다양한 방법을 통해 사운드를 구성하였다. 가장 대중적으로 사용되는 시퀀싱 프로그램 중 하나인 로직과 내장 악기, 엑스퍼레코드사의 세럼을 통해서 최대한 비슷하게 구현하며 위켄드의 사운드를 분석하였다. 하지만 제작자의 작업방식을 따르는게 아닌 음악을 듣고 구현하는 방식으로 진행하다 보니 원곡과 100% 일치하는 사운드 구현에는 어려움이 있었다. 마지막으로 이와 같은 Newtro 스타일의 음악을 계속적으로 연구가 이루어진다면 다양한 연령층이 다양한 음악을 접할 수 있을 것이라는 제언을 하였다.
