이 글은 미소군정의 한반도 분단과 38°선 획정, 6.25전쟁을 회고하면 서 DMZ 탄생의 역사적 난제와 해결방안을 고찰하는 데 근본적인 연구의 목적을 지닌다. DMZ 연구를 위해서는 한반도 분단과 관련된 역사적 난제들을 풀어나가야 한다. 38°선도 그렇고, MDL도 그렇고, DMZ도 그렇고, 외세나 외세에 합작한 결과물이 결국은 한반도 분단과 분열을 가져왔다는 생각이다. 이 뜻은 아직도 한반도는 통일이나 통합의 실체가 민족 내부이기보다는 외세에 의해 결정되고 있다는 의미이다. 그러나 한반도 분단과 관련된 역사적 난제들을 풀어나가는 노력은 좀처럼 보이지 않는다. 이 글에서 38°선을 소환한 이유도 DMZ와 맥락을 같이 하기 때문이다. 결국은 한반도의 평화나 통일을 위해서는 38°선과 6.25전쟁, MDL과 DMZ를 새롭게 개진해야 할 때라고 생각된다. 분단 76년 정전 68년이 되었지만 한반도는 달라진 게 없다. 과거 한반도 비핵화와 평화 체제를 위한 6자회담도 소환해야 할 것이다.

The purpose of this article is to examine the historical difficulties and solutions to the birth of the DMZ while recalling the division of the Korean Peninsula, the 38° line of the U.S.-Soviet military government, and the Korean War. For DMZ research, historical difficulties related to the division of the Korean Peninsula must be solved. The 38° line, the MDL, the DMZ, and the result of the joint venture with foreign powers and foreign powers eventually led to division and Conflict of the Korean Peninsula. This means that the reality of unification or integration on the Korean Peninsula is still determined by foreign powers rather than within the people. However, efforts to solve historical difficulties related to the division of the Korean Peninsula are rarely seen. The reason why the 38° line was summoned in this article is because it is in the same context with the DMZ. In the end, it is thought that it is time to renew the 38° line, the Korean War, and the MDL and DMZ for peace or unification on the Korean Peninsula. It has been 76 years since the division and 68 years of cease-fire, but nothing has changed on the Korean Peninsula. In the past, six-way talks for denuclearization and a peace regime on the Korean Peninsula should also be summoned.
