이 논문은 19세기 중엽부터 학맥을 형성하여 호남과 영남 일 대에서 거대한 학파로 발전하였던 노사 기정진의 학문과 사상 을 분석한 것이다. 노사(蘆沙) 기정진(奇正鎭:1798~1879)의 가문 은 방계 기대승과 같은 학자를 배출할 정도로 학문적 성향이 두드러졌다. 특히 기정진의 5대조 기정익(奇挻翼)은 송시열(宋 時烈)의 문인으로서 장성에서 많은 문인을 배출하였고, 또한 학 문적으로 주희에 머무르지 않고 정호(程顥)나 정이(程頤)까지 확대하여 궁구하는 가학의 전통을 마련하였다. 이후 기정진 가 문은 세도정치 이후 다수의 과거 급제자를 배출하여 장성뿐만 아니라 호남을 대표하는 가문으로 성장하였다. 또한 노사 기정 진의 학덕을 숭상하여 형성된 학파로써 당대 사회에 미친 영향 이 지대하였다. 이런 까닭에 19세기 중후반 일제강점기에 이르 는 격동기 속에서 기정진의 학문적 성향이 어떻게 형성되었으 며, 또한 어떠한 업적 및 성과를 이루었는지 알려진 것은 많지 않다. 따라서 이 논문에서는 기정진의 학문적 성과와 사상적 범위를 넓혀 그의 업적을 중심으로 향촌 사회나 정치 권력과의 상관관계, 현실 인식 등의 연원을 고찰하고자 하였다.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the academic world and ideology of Nosa Gi Jeong Jin, who established a large school of philosophers in Honam and Yeongnam that originated in the mid-19th century. The house of Nosa Gi Jeong Jin is of an outstanding academic tradition and heritage, including famed scholars such as Banggye Gi Dae Seung over its history. Especially, the great-great-great grandfather of Gi Jeong Jeon, whose name was Gi Jeong Ik, was a student of Song Shi Yeol and had a number of students of his own. In his philosophy, he was not limited to Joo Hee but also covered Jeong Ho and even Jeong Yi, establishing a family tradition of academic achievements. Later, the house of Gi Jeong Jin had many descendants who passed the Gwageo exam to grow one of the most prestigious houses not only in Jangseong but also across Honam. The school of Nosa Gi Jeong Jin, founded in admiration of his academic legacy, had a significant impact on society at its time. For this reason, not much has been known about the academic achievements and successes of Gi Jeong Jin during the tumultuous period from the mid/late-19th century to the Japanese Occupation. Therefore, in this study, the researcher expanded beyond the scope of academic achievements and ideology of Gi Jeong Jin to examine the relationship with the local community and the political powers and his view on reality, focusing on his achievements.
