본 연구는 청말민초(清末民初) 서예가 야오망푸(姚茫父)의 비 파(碑派) 서예에서의 예술적 성취와 혁신을 탐구하였다. 야오망 푸는 명청시대 귀주(貴州) 문화 발전의 배경 속에서 독학과 깊이 있는 모사를 통해 한비(漢碑)와 예서(隸書) 등 전통 예술의 정수 를 융합하여며 독창적인 서예 스타일을 점차 형성해 나갔다. 그 의 서예 작품은 전서와과 예서의 필법을 핵심으로 하여 짙은 금 석(金石)의 기운과 소박하고도 안정적인 아름다움을 보여주며 독 특한 시대적 운치를 담고 있다. 야오망푸의 서예는 단순히 기법 에 그치지 않고, 작품을 통해 사회 변혁에 대한 이해와 응답을 표현하여 문인으로서의 책임감을 드러냈다. 예술적 교류 측면에 서는 제백석(齊白石, 1863-1957), 천스쩡(陳師曾) 등 동시대 유 명 인사들과의 협력과 공명을 통해 그의 서예 예술 스타일은 더 욱 다채로워졌다. 또한, 야오망푸는 서예, 전각(篆刻), 그리고 새 김 동각(銅刻) 예술을 결합하며 비파 서예의 표현 방식을 확장시 켰다. 이를 통해 그는 전통과 현대의 독특한 융합 및 탐구 정신 을 구현하였다. 비록 질병에 시달렸지만, 그는 창작을 멈추지 않 았으며, 굴하지 않는 의지로 풍부한 예술 유산을 남겼다. 야오망 푸의 작품은 비파 서예에 새로운 생명력을 불어넣었을 뿐만 아 니라 후대에 전통의 계승과 혁신이라는 귀중한 모범을 제공하였 다.

This study examines the artistic achievements and innovations of Yao Mangfu (姚茫父), a calligrapher active during the late Qing and early Republican period, within the Beipai (碑派, stele school) calligraphy tradition. Against the backdrop of cultural development in Guizhou during the Ming and Qing dynasties, Yao cultivated a unique calligraphic style through self-study and meticulous copying of ancient works. By integrating the essence of Han dynasty steles (漢碑) and clerical script (隸書), he gradually established a distinct artistic identity. Yao’s calligraphic works are rooted in the techniques of seal and clerical script, characterized by a profound sense of antiquity (金石氣) and a simple yet solid aesthetic, imbued with the distinctive atmosphere of his era. Beyond technical mastery, his works reflect his understanding of and response to societal changes, embodying the sense of responsibility inherent to traditional scholars. In terms of artistic exchange, Yao collaborated with contemporaries such as Qi Baishi (齊白石) and Chen Shizeng (陳師曾), which enriched the diversity of his style. Moreover, Yao actively innovated by merging calligraphy with seal carving (篆刻) and bronze engraving (銅刻藝術), expanding the expressive possibilities of Beipai calligraphy. This fusion demonstrates his spirit of exploration and his effort to bridge tradition and modernity. Despite his struggles with illness, Yao remained dedicated to his art, creating a rich legacy of resilience and creativity. His works not only revitalized Beipai calligraphy with new vitality but also provided an invaluable model of preservation and innovation for future generations.
