본 연구는 과거 말 목장이 있었던 인천 섬의 역사를 문헌 고찰하여 이를 현대적으로 계승 발전할 방안을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 통해 인 천 섬의 관광콘텐츠를 강화하고 인천의 정체성이 육지가 아닌 해양에 있음을 밝히고자 하였다. 이는 인천이 가진 섬과 바다의 혜택을 극대화하는 방안 중 의 하나이기 때문이다. 본 연구목적 달성을 위해 선행연구, 단행본, 정기간행 물, 신문기사 등을 문헌 고찰하였다. 그 결과, 말산업 육성법을 중심으로 제5 경마장 유치를 위한 인천시의 철저한 준비, 구체적인 현대적 계승방안으로는 말 체험 및 교육 관광 패키지 개발, 스마트 말 관리 시스템 도입, 말 관련 웰 니스 프로그램 운영, 말 문화 축제 및 이벤트 개최, 친환경 말 사육 및 자연 보호 프로그램 도입 등을 제시하였다. 이처럼 본 연구가 인천 섬의 ‘말 목장’ 을 현대적으로 계승하여 발전할 방안을 제시하는 등의 실질적인 성과를 거두 였음에도 인천 섬 지역주민의 의견을 반영한 실증분석을 하지 못한 점과 이를 구체적으로 실현하기 위한 행정절차 등을 제시하지 못한 한계가 있다는 점을 고려하여 향후 연구는 이를 보완하여 지속적인 연구가 이루어지길 기대한다.

This study aims to examine the history of horse ranches on Incheon islands through literature review and present ways to modernize and develop them. To achieve the research objective, prior studies, books, periodicals, and newspaper articles were reviewed. As a result, it was found that Incheon city has thoroughly prepared to attract the 5th horse racing track, centering on the Horse Industry Promotion Act. Specific modern succession strategies include developing horse experience and educational tourism packages, introducing smart horse management systems, operating horse-related wellness programs, holding horse culture festivals and events, and implementing eco-friendly horse breeding and nature conservation programs. In light of the tangible outcomes achieved by this study—such as proposing ways to modernly inherit and develop the ‘horse ranches’ on Incheon Island—it is expected that future research will continue with empirical studies and related approaches.
