본고는 동춘당 송준길 가문의 한글 간찰(17세기 후반~20세기 초, 247 편)에 나타난 한자어 형용사 72개를 대상으로 현대국어와의 비교를 통해 음운·형태·통사·의미적 특성을 고찰하였다. 연구 방법으로는　먼저　<표 준국어대사전>, <고려대한국어대사전>, <漢語大辭典>을 참조하여 ‘한자 어 어근+/하’ 및 ‘한자어 어근+롭’ 형태를　갖는　형용사 목록을 작성 하고, 그　다음에는　형태　분석을 통해 접미사 결합형과 음운 변이형을 구분하고, 이를 바탕으로　근대국어와 현대국어 간의 음운·형태·의미 차 이를 비교 분석하고,　마지막에　예문 분석을 통해 논항 구조의 변화 양 상을 추적하였다. 연구 결과, 음운·형태적으로는 접미사 결합형 3개와 음 운 변이형 35개가 확인되었으며, 후자는 단모음화, 구개음화, 원순모음 화, 저모음화, ‘ㆍ’ 탈락 등의 음운 현상을 거쳤다. 통사적으로는 ‘감격 다'와 같이 근대국어에서 동사와 형용사로 병용되던 어휘가 현대국어에 서는 동사로만 쓰이는 품사 변화 사례와　‘피잔다’처럼 소멸한 사례가 확인되었다. 의미적으로는　‘무다’, ‘듕다’, ‘급다’ 등 23개 형용 사에서 의미 확장이 관찰되었으며, 논항 구조는 ‘NP1이 V’에서 ‘NP1이 NP2에/에게 V’로 확장되었다. 본 연구는 간찰이라는 구어적 자료를 통 해 근대국어 한자어 형용사의 실제 사용 양상과 변화 과정을 실증적으로 밝혔으며, 공식 문헌에서는 포착하기 어려운 과도기적 변이형과 지역어 적 특성을 규명함으로써 국어사 연구에 기여한다.

This study analyzes 72 Sino-Korean adjectives found in 247 Hangeul letters of the Dongchundang Song Jungil family (late 17th–early 20th century) to compare them with modern Korean forms in terms of phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics. Using dictionary references, the research identified suffixal and phonological variants, noting changes such as monophthongization and vowel loss. It found three suffixal types and thirty-five phonological variants. Syntactically, some adjectives that once functioned as both verbs and adjectives now appear only as verbs, while others have disappeared. Semantically, twenty-three adjectives show meaning expansion, and argument structures evolved from “NP1-i V” to “NP1-i NP2-e/-ege V.” Overall, the study reveals the actual usage and transitional changes of Sino-Korean adjectives in Middle Korean, offering empirical insights into the historical development of the Korean language.
