본 연구는 정원의 현대적 의미와 가치, 역할 및 정원문화에 대한 인식과 정원문화 활성화 방안을 시민정원사 양성과정 수강자를 대상으로 분석하였 다. 연구는 정원과 정원문화에 관한 개방형 질문을 바탕으로 브레인스토밍과 토의를 실시하고, 수집된 비정형 텍스트 자료를 워드클라우드 기법을 통해 핵심 키워드 도출 및 주제 분류의 방식으로 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 정원이 가지는 주요 의미는 ‘치유’, ‘개인적 쉼터’, ‘자연과의 교감’, ‘사회적 연결’로 나타났다. 정원의 가치와 역할은 심리·정서적 측면, 환경·생태적 측면, 사회·공공적 측면의 세 가지 범주로 구분되었으며, 정원은 개인의 심신 안정과 삶의 질 향상뿐 아니라 공동체 소통과 생태적 감수성을 증진하는 공간으로 인식되고 있었다. 정원문화에 대한 인식은 인간과 인간 간의 관계적 측면과 인간과 자연의 상호작용 측면에서 확인되었다. 정원문화 활성화 방안으로는 소통과 참여의 촉진, 교육 및 역량 강화, 정책적 지원과 환경 조성, 홍보와 인식 제고의 네 가지 방향이 도출되었다. 본 연구는 시민정원사의 인식을 기반으로 정원과 정원문화의 의미와 역할을 체계적으로 정리하고, 워드클라우드 기법을 활용하여 질적 자료를 시각적으로 분석하였다는 점에서 의의를 가지며, 향후 정원문화 정책 및 실천적 프로그램 개발을 위한 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

This study analyzed the contemporary meaning, value, and role of gardens, as well as perceptions of garden culture and strategies for revitalizing garden culture, based on participants in a citizen gardener training program. The study employed brainstorming and discussion based on open-ended questions related to gardens and garden culture, and the collected unstructured text data were analyzed using word cloud techniques to extract key terms and classify themes. The results indicated that the primary meanings of gardens were identified as spaces of healing, personal shelter, interaction with nature, and social connection. The value and role of gardens were categorized into three dimensions: psychological and emotional, environmental and ecological, and social and public. Gardens were perceived not only as spaces that promote individual mental and physical well-being and quality of life, but also as places that enhance community communication and ecological awareness. Perceptions of garden culture were identified from two main perspectives: relationships between people and interactions between humans and nature. Strategies for revitalizing garden culture were derived in four key areas: promoting communication and participation, training and capacity building, policy support and environment creation, and promotion and awareness raising. This study is significant in that it systematically organizes the meanings and roles of gardens and garden culture based on the perceptions of citizen gardeners and applies word cloud techniques to visually analyze qualitative data. The findings are expected to serve as foundational information for the development of future garden culture policies and practical programs.
