본 연구는 글로벌 대중문화 콘텐츠를 활용한 영어 숏폼 수업이 한국 대학생들의 교양 영어 학습 참여, 수업 인식, 세계 문화 이해 및 영어 학 습 성취에 미치는 영향을 탐구하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 서울 소 재 대학교 교양 영어 수업을 수강하는 학부생을 대상으로 영어 숏폼 기 반 수업을 실시하였다. 연구 방법은 설문조사, 학습자 반성적 저널, 수업 전·후 영어 성취 테스트를 혼합 분석하였다. 연구 결과 영어 숏폼 수업은 학습자들의 수업 참여도와 흥미를 유의미하게 향상시키고 영어 학습에 대한 긍정적인 인식을 형성하는 데 기여한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 학습 자들은 글로벌 대중문화 콘텐츠를 통해 세계 문화에 대한 이해와 문화적 인식이 확장되었음을 보고하였다. 성취 테스트 분석 결과에서도 수업 전· 후 영어 어휘 및 구어 표현 이해도에서 통계적으로 유의미한 향상이 확 인되었다. 이는 글로벌 대중문화 콘텐츠를 다룬 영어 숏폼이 교양 영어 수업에서 언어 학습과 문화 이해를 통합하는 효과적인 교수 및 학습 도 구로 활용될 수 있음을 시사한다.

This study examines the effects of English short-form video– based instruction using global popular culture content on Korean university students’ engagement in general English courses, their class perceptions, cultural understanding, and English learning achievement. The participants were 50 undergraduate students enrolled in a general English course at a university in Seoul. A mixed-methods approach was employed, including questionnaires, learners’ reflective journals, and pre- and post-achievement tests. The results indicate that English short-form instruction enhanced learners’ engagement and interest, fostered positive perceptions of English learning, and expanded their understanding of global cultures. In addition, statistically significant improvements were found in learners’ comprehension of vocabulary and colloquial expressions. These findings suggest that English short-form videos can function as an effective pedagogical tool in general English education.
