A Study on the Value Creation Model of Overseas-Held Cultural Heritage in the Ubiquitous Era : Focusing on the Oegyujanggak Uigwe
This study examines the transformation of overseas-held cultural heritage transmission in a ubiquitous environment, focusing on how cultural value is generated and circulated through digital networks. Moving beyond traditional debates on physical restitution, this research emphasizes informational value and social utilization within networked environments. Adopting a qualitative approach through literature review and case analysis, the study applies a cultural ecosystem framework consisting of four stages: production, dissemination, reception, and sustainability. The Oegyujanggak Uigwe, returned in 2011 and digitally archived, serves as the primary case study. The findings reveal that the Uigwe’s value evolved from state ritual records (production) to broader accessibility via digital archives (dissemination). Digital mediation further expanded its use in education and research (reception), while platform-based management ensured long-term circulation (sustainability). This study demonstrates that overseas-held heritage can function as "shared heritage" in digital environments and offers policy implications for heritage transmission in the ubiquitous era.
