The Structural Relationships among Teaching Behaviors, Class Flow, Class Satisfaction, and Exercise Adherence Intention in University Physical Education Courses
This study aims to examine the structural relationships among instructors’ teaching behaviors, class immersion, class satisfaction, and exercise adherence intention in university general physical education courses. A survey was conducted among university students enrolled in physical education courses at universities located in the Seoul metropolitan and Chungcheong regions. A total of 362 valid responses were used for the final analysis. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 28.0 and AMOS 28.0, employing confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling. First, autonomy-supportive teaching, feedback provision, and participation-inducing teaching all had significant positive effects on class flow. Second, all sub-dimensions of teaching behavior showed significant positive effects on class satisfaction. Third, class flow had significant positive effects on both class satisfaction and exercise adherence intention. Fourth, class satisfaction was identified as the strongest predictor of exercise adherence intention. Fifth, regarding the direct effects on exercise adherence intention, autonomy support and participation induction were significant, whereas feedback provision did not show a significant effect. These findings suggest that teaching behaviors play a critical role in shaping students’ psychological experiences and behavioral intentions in university physical education settings.
