Structural Performance Evaluation of a Prefabricated Joint System for Traditional Korean Hanok Composite Wall Structures
The demand for improving the structural performance and constructability of the hanok, the traditional Korean house, has increased with growing interest in achieving carbon neutrality and sustainable construction. This study developed a composite wall system incorporating a prefabricated joint system to improve the structural integrity and construction precision and evaluated its structural performance through axial vertical load and flexural tensile tests. Douglas fir was used for the primary structural members, while Oriented Strand Board and plywood were incorporated into the wall system. The results of the axial vertical load tests revealed an average maximum load of 18.72 kN and an average axial vertical strength of 8.92 MPa, while the flexural tensile test yielded a maximum tensile strength of 2.51 MPa. Local buckling of the columns and partial interfacial separation between the timber and panel materials were the major failure modes. These findings demonstrate that the proposed joint system provides stable load transfer and structural integrity, indicating its potential for application as a modernized composite wall system while maintaining the structural characteristics of the hanok.
