Coupled Finite Element Analyses for the Development of a 1200 kg Heavy-Weight Core Index Double-Shot Injection Mold for a 650 Ton Machine
In this study, integrated finite element analysis was performed to develop a 1,200 kg heavy-weight core index double-shot injection mold for an automotive dashboard garnish, compatible with a 650-ton machine. To evaluate structural validity and operational safety, heat transfer, thermal deformation, static, and dynamic structural analyses were comprehensively linked. First, a transient heat transfer analysis derived the steady-state temperature distribution under continuous cycles, which was then applied to thermal deformation analysis to verify stability regarding thermal stress. Next, static analysis confirmed the load-carrying capacity and deflection of the ball-bearing bush under gravity. Dynamic analysis determined the shaft stress distribution and minimum torque required for stable rotation. Finally, reflecting the FEA results, the actual mold was manufactured, and its rotational performance and structural stability were successfully demonstrated through physical testing.
