This study aimed to examine differences in scalp- and hair-care-related variables according to the lifestyles and general characteristics of adult men and women. An online survey was conducted among adults across South Korea from September 27 to October 19, 2021, and a total of 300 questionnaires were included in the final analysis. Data were analyzed using SPSS Statistics 25.0 through frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, independent-samples t-tests, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and post hoc tests. The results showed that women had higher levels of sociocultural pressure from media, intention to use professional care services, maintenance beliefs, scalp awareness, interest in hair, and scalp and hair care behaviors than men, whereas men reported higher levels of sociocultural pressure from acquaintances. Regarding marital status, married participants reported higher levels of sociocultural pressure from media than unmarried participants, while participants in the other marital-status group reported higher levels of maintenance beliefs, health beliefs regarding scalp and hair care, scalp awareness, and overall scalp and hair care awareness and behaviors than unmarried participants. Smokers reported higher levels of sociocultural pressure from acquaintances than non-smokers, and significant differences in related variables were also found according to alcohol consumption. Although 83.3% of participants reported using hair treatments after chemical procedures, only 25.0% reported using protective and restorative products daily. Effectiveness was the most important criterion for product selection (69.7%). Overall, the findings indicate that scalp- and hair-care-related awareness, behaviors, and related variables differ according to individuals’ general characteristics and lifestyle factors. Therefore, scalp and hair care practices should consider individual characteristics and lifestyle factors when providing consultation and care.
