Ghana has established a system for producing and supplying certified rice seeds; however, the utilization rate is still below 5%. As rice increasingly becomes a secondary staple food, it is crucial to expand the production and distribution of certified seeds to enhance productivity and quality. Since 2022, the KOPIA Ghana Center has partnered with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) to develop a certified rice seed production system in the Greater Accra Region. In 2024, MoFA produced 644 MT of certified rice s eeds a cross f our v arieties, which were then d istributed to rice f ields nationwide. This study, based on a farm household survey (n=293), examined the certified seed supply chain, analyzed its impact on yield and farm income, and assessed the regional adaptability of the distributed varieties. The results revealed that certified rice seeds were distributed relatively evenly to farmers through MoFA's district agencies. The use of certified seeds significantly increased yields across all regions, with every variety performing better under irrigated conditions. These yield improvements contributed to higher farm incomes, creating opportunities for poverty reduction and promoting responsible consumption and production. To enhance the sustainability of Ghana's certified seed production and supply system, it is essential to implement improvements in supply timing, seed quantity, distribution methods, and seed quality.
