Triticale is a promising forage crop due to its high dry matter production and suitability for conserved forage production in Korea. This study evaluated the total dry matter (TDM) yield of triticale cultivated in Cheonan in 2024 and 2025 and also investigated changes in fermentation characteristics and nutritional composition during 12 months of bale silage storage. The TDM yield was 9,718 kg ha⁻¹ in 2024 and 8,237 kg ha⁻¹ in 2025, with an average yield of 8,977.5 kg ha⁻¹. Silage pH ranged from 5.29 to 5.81 during storage, while lactic acid concentration increased from 4.56% DM at 3 months to 10.20% DM at 6 months and remained relatively stable at 9 and 12 months. Acetic acid and propionic acid concentrations remained low throughout storage, whereas butyric acid reached a maximum of 0.16% DM at 9 months. Crude protein (CP) ranged from 8.82 to 11.35% DM, NDF from 64.25 to 69.01% DM, and ADF from 37.59 to 40.03% DM. The TDN remained relatively stable, ranging from 57.27 to 59.20% DM. Overall, triticale demonstrated good dry matter yield potential and maintained relatively stable nutritional characteristics during prolonged bale storage, indicating its potential as a conserved forage crop in Korea.
