섬진강 중류의 전남 곡성군 수계의 담수어류상과 서식현황을 2001년 3월부터 10월까지 조사한 결과, 총 5과 22속 30종 1,786개체가 채집되었다. 출현한 어류는 26종이 잉어과 어류에 해당되었고, Rhinogobius brunneus의 1종만이 이차담수어에 해당되었다. 하천 전체에서 Zacco platypus (우점도 24.2%)가 우점종으로 확인되었고, 아우점종은 Pungtungia herzi (10.7%)로 나타났다. 한국 고유종은 Rhode
