이 연구는 한국 교회의 1세대 선교학자들 중에 이광순 교수에 대한 연구이다. 전재옥, 전호진, 강승삼, 이태웅 등과 더불어 이광순 교수는 한국 선교학자의 1세대에 속한다. 그는 1986년 풀러에서 박사 학위 취득 후 장신대에서 가르쳤으며 많은 예장 통합 선교사 훈련에 참여했다. 이 연구는 이광순 박사의 선교학과 예장 통합 선교사들과 한국 교회에 대한 공헌을 이해하고자 했다. 이것을 위해 본인은 이 박사의 연구논문들과 저서들과 박사 학위 논문을 참고했다. 본인은 우선 그 이전의 두 명의 장신대 선교 관련 교수들에 대해 간략히 고찰한 뒤에 그의 생애와 사역을 정리했다. 그 뒤에 본인은 그의 연구 주제들을 여섯 개의 주제와 몇 개의 작은 주제들로 정리했다. 마지막으로 본인은 이광순 박사의 사역에 대해 논의했다. 이광순 박사와 그의 연구가 영어권에서 비교적 알려져 있지 않기 때문에 그의 생활과 사역을 보다 자세히 살펴 보았다. 이 연구는 이신형의 선행 연구보다 광범위하게 이광순 박사에 대해 살폈다.

This study looks at the works of Kwang Soon Lee. She is one of the first generation of Korean missiologists including Chae Ok Chun, Hojin Jun, Seung Sam Kang and Taewoong Lee. After completing her Ph.D. at Fuller Theological Seminary in 1986, she was invited to teach at Presbyterian University and Theological Seminary (PUTS). She trained a large number of missionaries who belong to the Presbyterian Church of Korea – Tonghap (PCK). This study sought to understand the missiology of Kwang Soon Lee and her contributions to the missionaries of PCK and the Korean church. For this, I have studied her dissertation, articles and books. At first, I briefly looked at two mission related professors before her arrival at PUTS and I summarized her life and ministry chronologically because Dr. Lee and her works are relatively unknown in the English speaking world. Then, I categorized her research themes into six major themes and three minor topics, followed by the evaluation of her ministry.
