Female leaders’ efforts to exceed prejudice have enhanced women's political representation in the male-dominated political arena, but recent gender-related issues during the impeachment of female presidents in South Korea and Brazil have instigated controversy regarding sexism in the political realm. How can we explain their impeachment processes, which were full of sexist condemnation, other than their political maladministration as presidents? By employing ambivalent sexism articulated by Glick and Fiske (1996) as a theoretical framework, this study critically examined how ambivalent sexism prevailed at the junctures surrounding the impeachments of the Korean and Brazilian female presidents. The features of ambivalent sexism were discovered to be remarkably prominent in the impeachment processes of both countries; in other words, ambivalent sexism still continues to appear in today's society in a way that hinders women's political leadership and strengthens traditional male-dominated gender roles.
