이 글은 20대 대선을 앞두고 치러진 국민의힘 대통령 후보자 경선과정 에서의 당내 민주화를 살피면서, 정권교체를 이룰 적합한 당내 후보자 공천과정을 분석하는 것이 연구 목적이다. 이 연구는 연구주제와 관련한 기존 연구가 없는 관계로 1차 자료인 일간신문과 인터넷뉴스 및 웹 싸이 트를 이용한 연구방법을 사용하였다. 이 연구의 필요성은 우선 정당의 역할로서 대통령후보 결정이 당내 민주화와 관련이 있는가에 있으며, 그 다음은 야당인 국민의힘의 공천을 받을 당 후보자가 시대적 요청인 정권 교체를 이룰 바람직한 인물인지를 살펴보는 데 있다. 결과적으로 최종 경선 승자는 당내 경선결과, 당심의 지원을 받아낸 윤석열 후보가 국민 의힘 후보로 결정됐다. 윤석열 후보는 국민의힘 대선후보 등장 일성으로 공정과 정의라는 시대적인 과제를 내세우며 당원들의 지지를 이끌어냈 다. 중요한 것은 한국 정당의 대통령 후보자 지명은 정당의 민주화와 야 당이 정권교체를 이룰 적합한 후보로서의 경쟁적 효과를 창출하는 데 있 다.

The purpose of this article is to analyze the process of nominating candidates within the party to achieve regime change while examining the democratization of the presidential candidate process for the People Power Party ahead of the 20th presidential election. Since there was no existing research related to the research topic, this study used a research method using the primary data, daily newspaper, Internet news, and website. The necessity of this study is to see whether the presidential candidate's decision as a party's role is related to democratization within the party, followed by whether the party's candidate, nominated by People Power Party as the opposition party, is a desirable person to achieve regime change. As a result, the final primary winner was Yoon Seok-yeol, who received support from the party, as a result of the party's internal primary, as a candidate for People Power Party. Yoon Seok-yeol drew support from party members by presenting the issues of fairness and justice as a candidate for the presidential election. What is important is that the Korean party's nomination as a presidential candidate creates a competitive effect as a suitable candidate for the democratization of the party and the opposition party to change power.
