        After the Fukushima disaster, overseas nuclear power plants have established conditions for issuing a red alert in the event of fuel damage within the spent fuel pool and they have already implemented conditions for issuing a blue alert when fuel is exposed above the water surface. In South Korean nuclear power plants, a real-time monitoring system is in place to oversee the exposure of spent fuel to the surface within the spent fuel pool. To achieve this, a water level indicator gauge is installed within the spent fuel pool, allowing for continuous real-time monitoring. This paper conducted a comparative assessment of radiation levels from water level monitoring system in two units’ spent fuel pools based on the low water levels (1 feet from the storage rack), utilizing the radiation analysis code (MCNP).

        After spent fuel is stored in a dry storage container, it becomes difficult to obtain information on the fuel’s characteristics. As a result, it is necessary to identify the characteristics of spent nuclear fuel in advance and secure the information necessary to establish delivery acceptance requirements for interim storage and disposal in the future. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the characteristics of spent fuel before loading dry storage casks. In order to prepare for the dry storage of spent fuel, information on the basic characteristics of the fuel is required. As part of this information, it is also necessary to establish calculation criteria for spent fuel burnup. Spent fuel burnup can be classified into three categories. The first is burnup evaluated using design codes (design burnup), the second is burnup measured by furnace instruments during power plant operation (actual burnup), and the third is burnup measured through measurement equipment (measured burnup). This paper describes a comparative evaluation of design burnup, actual burnup, and measured burnup for specific fuels (40 bundles).

        The Co-60 is a radioactive material widely used in domestic and foreign medical, industrial, health and research fields. Currently, world market for the Co-60 is about 80 MCi/yr and is expected to grow to 150 MCi/yr by 2025. For the Co-60, Nordion of Canada occupies about 80% of the world market. In the case of Korea, a small amount of sources with relatively low radioactivity intensity are produced using research reactors, but most of the Co-60 is entirely dependent on imports. Accordingly, although the technical feasibility of the Co-60 production technology using the PHWR was evaluated, it was evaluated as a negative result on the additional construction of a hot cell, core management, safety analysis and economic feasibility. Canada, the main producer of the Co-60, is also conducting research on the Co-60 production technology using PWR with GE-Hitachi and Westinghouse as the number of PHWR is expected to decrease. In Korea, it is necessary to preoccupy the Co-60 production technology and auxiliary technology using the PWR by utilizing excellent technology, and active research is being conducted to secure unique nuclear power technology that does not depend on foreign countries. Therefore, in this study, the thickness and weight of the radioactive shielding required for handling (transport) of Co-60 produced using the PWR were calculated.

        Red Chinese cabbage is rich in anthocyanins, with beneficial effects on anti-obesity and lipid profiles. The purpose of this study was to examine the anti-obesity effects of red Chinese cabbage. Four-weeks old Spague-Dawley male rats were divided into four groups for six weeks as follow: Normal Diet (ND), High Fat Diet (HFD), HFD + Red Chinese Cabbage Diet (RCD), HFD + Red Chinese Cabbage Juice (RCJD). After six weeks, the liver weight was significantly higher in the HFD group than in the other groups, and the RCD and RCJD groups showed similar values to the ND group. The epididymal fats were significantly higher in all high fat diets (HFD, RCD, RCJD) than in the ND group and there was statistical significance in the post-tests when comparing the RCD and RCJD groups with the HFD group. Triglycerides significantly decreased in the RCD group. In conclusion, red Chinese cabbage is rich in anthocyanins, with beneficial effects on organ weight and lipid profiles.

        Osteoarthritis occurs when the cartilage that gradually deteriorates as common aging-associated disease in humans and animals. There is no cure, but the treatments are available to manage to relieve pain through medication such as steroids. Growing interest has been focused on the role of cell-based therapies using mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). In addition, mesenchymal stem cells can be isolated from almost adult tissues and known for their potential of becoming cartilage. Clinical and experimental studies indicate that the development of treatment using stem cells is double-edged sword involving a possibility such as tumorigenesis. This study focused on the electrical features during articular cartilage development and hypothesized that external electric fields promote pre-chondrogenic condensation without concern relating to genetic modification or exogenous factors. Here, it has been reported that exogenous direct electric fields drive pre-chondrogenic condensation which is the stage where cartilage formation begins by condensation of stem cells and cartilage cells in the microenvironment of the joint. Time-dependent observations also support the contribution of electrical stimulation (ES) to induce gradual aggregation of MSCs into highly compact structures within 3 days. Collectively, our findings provide the potential of electrical stimulation-driven chondrogenesis of mesenchymal stem cells in the absence of exogenous factors for repair of cartilage defects.

        본 연구에서는 저장볼트(storage vault)의 실험을 위하여 1/4 축소모델 내 튜브의 적정 발열량을 선정하고자 상사해석을 수 행하였다. 저장볼트에 대한 열 및 유동 해석을 우선적으로 수행하였고, 크기를 1/4로 축소한 저장볼트에 대하여 동일한 전 산해석을 수행하였다. 전산해석 결과를 바탕으로, 제안된 무차원수를 비교하여 원형모델과 온도분포와 유동분포가 유사하 게 되는 발열량을 선정하였다. 1/4 축소 저장볼트 내 튜브의 열유속이 1.3배일 때, 원형 저장볼트와 1/4 축소 저장볼트의 온 도장 및 유동장이 상사되었다. 이 때, 1/4 축소 저장볼트 내 발열량은 약 190 W이다.
