        When storing spent fuel in a dry condition, it becomes essential to ensure that any remaining moisture bound to the canister and spent fuel is effectively removed and stored within an inert gas environment. This is crucial for preserving the integrity of the spent fuel. According to the NRC- 02-07-C-006 report, it is advised to reduce pressure gradually or in incremental stages to prevent the formation of ice. In the context of vacuum drying, it is desirable to perform testing using a prototype model; however, utilizing a prototype model can be difficult due to budget constraints. To address this limitation, we designed and constructed a laboratory-scale vacuum drying apparatus. Our aim was to assess the impact of vacuum pump capacity on the drying process, as well as to evaluate the influence of canister volume on drying efficiency. The vacuum drying tests were carried out until the surface temperature of the water inside reached 0.1°C. In the tests focusing on vacuum pump capacity, vacuum pumps with capacities of 100, 200, 400, and 600 liters were employed. The outcomes of these tests indicated that smaller vacuum pump capacities resulted in increased evaporation rates but also prolonged drying times. In the case of drying tests based on canister volume, canisters with volumes of approximately 100 and 200 liters were utilized. The results revealed that larger canister volumes led to longer drying times and lower rates of evaporation. Consequently, if we were to employ an actual dry storage cask for vacuum drying the interior of the canister, it is anticipated that the process would require a substantial amount of time due to the considerably larger volume involved.

        Giant miscanthus (GM) is an Asian grass that can produce biomass in high yields per land area. It can be used as a cathode material in lithium sulfur (Li/S) batteries. Giant-miscanthus-derived activated carbon (GMAC) is prepared via carbonization of GM followed by KOH activation. It is prepared with a large amount of KOH, and thus contained more defects but had a highly porous structure and graphitic cluster lattice. GMAC has a large specific surface area of 3327 m2/g and a large total pore volume of 1.86 cm3/g. The pore volume served as a storage space for the retention of polysulfides, thereby inhibiting the shuttle effect. When a GMAC–sulfur composite cathode is tested in a Li/S battery, an initial discharge capacity of 1148 mAh/g can be attained at 0.1 C. In a cyclic charge–discharge experiment at 1 C, discharge capacities of 529 mAh/g and 248 mAh/g are observed in the first and 200th cycles, respectively.

        As the usage of smartphones increased rapidly due to the popularization of smart phones, it appears that the average daily usage time of Korean people was 3 hours and 39 minutes, and it was analyzed that the twenties uses 4 hours 41 minutes longer than the average (Jung, 2015). It, also, was found that users mainly use smartphones for receiving information retrieval, social network sites (SNS) activities, listening to music, watching games, and watching videos. In consequence, various contents suitable for smartphones are increasing rapidly. In particular, the number of users who are engaged in SNS activities through smartphones is rapidly increasing and its influence is gradually getting bigger. (Park & Lee, 2012). SNS activities provide content that gives entertainment in a short time and at the same time make consumption regardless of time and space like in subways or cafes, and also stimulate users through visual elements. The content that can be enjoyed in 10 to 15 minutes like snacks, which are easily eaten regardless of time and space, is called 'snack culture'. (Ko, 2015) According to Cheil Worldwide, 2000 media outlets for men and women aged between 13 and 59 living in major cities across the country, the phenomenon of easily consuming short videos, web cartoons, and web novels appeared noticeably. As a result of investigating the main purposes of smartphones, the use of relatively short contents such as SNS has increased (Bae, 2015). SNS provides users with simple contents similar to snacks, and users tend to use SNS as a leisure activity by using these services in 'leisure time' which is the time of their spare time. In this way, as the number of SNS steadily increased, SNS activity has also naturally increased. Consequently, as the SNS market has rocketed among various activities, the e-commerce using it is become popular. This type of consumption activity is called leisure spending (Cho & Do, 2010). Thus, it is necessary to analyze whether consumers view SNS activities as part of their leisure life. Although there are a lot of active consumption activities happening in consequence of using SNS after the spread of smartphones, there is very little research done on the relationship between SNS activity and the leisure life. This study, therefore, intends to conduct in-depth interviews on twenty women in their twenties and thirties who are actively engaged in consumption activities in the SNS market, on the issue of whether they acknowledge SNS activities and consumption behavior in the SNS market as recreational activities. The purposes of this study are as follows: first, to find out the meaning to SNS activities as a leisure activity to female consumers of the twenties and the thirties; second, to explore the approaching process and motivation of leisure life extending to leisure spending; third, to examine the relation between experience of commitment and leisure satisfaction through previous research and in-depth interview In addition, this study is the cornerstone of research on SNS market which is becoming an issue as one new consumption trend and which recognizes consumption activity that happens in the market as leisure consumption in reference to leisure. It is considered to be utilized variously when establishing marketing strategy of fashion companies, which will use image consumption based SNS later.

        We demonstrated the sensitivity of optically active single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) with a diameter below 1 nm that were homogeneously dispersed in cement composites under a mechanical load. Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) was selected as the dispersing agent to achieve a homogeneous dispersion of SWCNTs in an aqueous solution, and the dispersion state of the SWCNTs were characterized using various optical tools. It was found that the addition of a large amount of DNA prohibited the structural evolution of calcium hydroxide and calcium silicate hydrate. Based on the in-situ Raman and X-ray diffraction studies, it was evident that hydrophilic functional groups within the DNA strongly retarded the hydration reaction. The optimum amount of DNA with respect to the cement was found to be 0.05 wt%. The strong Raman signals coming from the SWCNTs entrapped in the cement composites enabled us to understand their dispersion state within the cement as well as their interfacial interaction. The G and G’ bands of the SWCNTs sensitively varied under mechanical compression. Our results indicate that an extremely small amount of SWCNTs can be used as an optical strain sensor if they are homogeneously dispersed within cement composites.

        This report is a part of research on pests occurring in grapevine orchards in export complexes (Hwangsung in Gyeonggi, Sangju and Yeongcheon in Gyeongbuk, Namwon in Junbuk and Yeongdong in Chungbuk) from 2010 to 2012. This research was conducted to evaluate the distribution and difference in damage rates depending on management types of grapevine orchards (domestic sale farm vs. export farm). Damage by Arbordia spp. occurred only in 2010 and differed depending on localities and individual farms in the same area. Numbers of orchards damaged by Arbordia spp. were one, two and four in Hwasung, Namwon and Sangju, respectively, and the damage rate was below 6.2%. There was no damage in the orchards in 2011 and 2012, however, Arbordia spp. were collected on sticky traps in the orchards. A. nigrigena and A. kakogawana were the dominant species in Yeongcheon and Yeongdong, respectively, in 2011. A. kakogawana, A. maculifrons and A. nigrigena were collected on sticky traps in 2012. Collected numbers of Arbordia spp. were different depending on localities and management types of the orchards (domestic sale vs. export). A. kakogawana was the dominant species in all the survey sites and the densities were higher in the domestic sale farms than in the export farms.

        Heat shock transcription factors(HSFs) are the major heat shock factors regulating the heat stress response. They participate in regulating the expression of heat shock proteins (HSPs), which are critical in the protection against stress damage and many other important biological processes. In this study, a genome-wide analysis was carried out to identify all HSFs soybean genes. Twenty six nonredundant HSF genes(GmHsf) were identified in the latest soybean genome sequence. Chromosomal location, protein domain and motif organization of GmHsfs were analyzed in soybean genome. The phylogenetic relationships, gene duplications and expression profiles of GmHsf genes were also presented in this study. According to their structural features, the predicted members were divided into the previously defined classes A–C, as described in Arabidopsis. Using RT-PCR, the expression patterns of 26 GmHsf genes were investigated under heat stress. The data revealed that these genes presented different expression levels in response to heat stress conditions. Real-time (q)RT-PCR was performed to investigate transcript levels of five GmHsfs in response to multiple abiotic stresses. Differential expression of five GmHsfs implies their role during abiotic stresses. Subcellular localization using GFP-fusion protein demonstrated that GmHsf12 and GmHsf34 were restricted to the nucleus and GmHsf28 was localized in the nucleus and cytoplasm in plant. The results provide a fundamental clue for understanding of the complexity of the soybean HSF gene family and cloning specific function genes in further studies and applications.

        The plant-specific NAC (NAM, ATAF, and CUC)-domain proteins play important roles in plant development and stress responses. Comparative time-course expression analyses were carried out to analyze the expression levels of 62 soybean NAC genes during drought stress in order to search for the stress-inducible NAC genes. Ten GmSNAC (Glycine max stress-inducible NAC) genes having the significant differential expression in response to the drought stress and abscisic acid (ABA) hormone application were further investigated for their expression profiles with various stresses such as drought, high salinity, cold and with ABA treatments by the quantitative real-time PCR analyses. In this research, the full-length cDNAs of eight GmSNAC were isolated for the further studies. Eight GmSNAC proteins were tested for their transcription activation in the yeast assay system. Two GmSNAC proteins showed the very high transcriptional activities and the other two GmSNAC proteins displayed moderate levels of transactivation while the remaining four GmSNAC proteins lacked transactivation in yeast. Subcellular localization of eight GmSNAC proteins was analyzed via the green fluorescent protein-GmSNAC fusion protein in tobacco plant cell. Three GmSNAC proteins with the C-terminal transmembrane domain were localized to the nucleus and cytoplasmic fractions. The other five GmSNAC proteins were targeted to the nucleus. The function of GmSNAC49 gene was further investigated using the overexpression transgenic Arabidopsis. Germination rate in transgenic plants over-expressing GmSNAC49 was delayed in the media supplemented with mannitol or ABA compared with that of wild-type (WT) plants. The 35S:GmSNAC49 transgenic Arabidopsis displayed improved tolerance to drought stress compared to the WT. The results of this systematic analysis of the GmSNAC family responsive to abiotic stress will provide novel tools and resources for the development of improved drought tolerant transgenic soybean cultivars

        Effects of pretreatment and extraction conditions on total polyphenol yield from licorice root were investigated using statistical method. For pretreatment, heat treatment at 121°C for 10 min was applied. Licorice root content in solvent (10, 20, and 30%) ethanol concentration (20, 40, and 60%) and reaction time (1, 2, and 3 h) were used as variables for extraction conditions. Two experiments, with heat treated and no treated licorice, were prepared with same experimental design. Box behnken design was employed and produced a total of 15 trials.         The production of hybrid onion (Allium cepa L.) seed is economically feasible using systems of cytoplasmic-genic male sterility(CMS). The identification of cytoplasm types might be helpful to development of sterile and maintainer lines. Due to this reason, a knowledge of the cytoplasm type is essential for hybrid breeding in onion. Especially, due to the biennial generation time of onion, to distinguish of onion cytoplasm type in individual plant may be helpful to reduce the efforts in a breeding program, when new sterile lines and the corresponding maintainer lines be developed. In our study, we applied the PCR-marker (orfA-501) to identify the cytoplasmic genotypes of collected 100 accessions of bulb onion. Among accessions, S-cytoplasm was found in 57 accessions. Nineteen accessions possessed only N-cytoplasm and twenty four accessions possessed both S- and N-cytoplasm.

        본 실험은 질소시용 수준이 수도의 이삭줄기, 엽신 및 엽초의 소유관속 발육에 미치는 영향을 구명 하여 수량을 증대시킬 수 있는 방안을 모색하기 위하여 '89∼'90년에 국제벼연구소 (IRRI)에서 인도형인 IR 58과 일본형인 운봉 7을 공시하여 수행하였다. 1. 분얼경의 수수절간에 발달된 소유관속수는 질소시용 수준이 증가할수록 유의하게 증가되는 경향이었으며, 주간의 경우 질소 무시용구에 비하여 질소시용구에서 IR 58은 39% 및 운봉 7은 24% 증가하였다. 2. 주간 및 일찍 출현된 1, 2차 분얼경의 발육 순서로 소유관속수가 많이 발육되어 있었으며, 분얼경의 출현이 늦을수록 유관속의 발육이 저하 되었다. 3. 주간의 수수절간, 엽신 및 엽초의 소유관속발육은 질소 무비구 및 소비구에 비하여 질소 증시구에서 다소 증가하는 경향이었다. 4. 수수절간의 소유관속수는 이삭당 영화수 및 입중과 밀접한 정의 상관관계를 나타냈으며, 이는 줄기에 발달된 소유관속이 영화수의 분화와 깊은 연관성을 가지고 있으며, 발달된 유관속을 통해 양수분 전류가 원할히 이루어져서 결국 이삭당 입중도 증가되는 결과를 보였다.
