        The design of buried underground flexible pipes proposed in domestic standards does not properly reflect changes in ground characteristics. Overseas standards suggest that pipe deflection must be considered while designing them. Therefore, in this study, the structural behavior of underground polyvinyl chloride pipes was investigated through experiments and the finite element analysis. In addition, when the pipe deflection occurred at 3% and 5%, the hydraulic characteristics of the polyvinyl chloride pipe showed a slight difference compared to the round pipe.

        As buildings are becoming larger, demand for mega-sized composite columns (over 1-meter diameter) is increased. We have developed and commercialized welded built-up CFT column (ACT Column I) since 2005 which are structurally stable and economical using cold-formed steel with rib. However, there has a limit in size of cross section (618˟618mm) by a fabrication facilities. And due to characteristics of closed cross section, there has a limit to construction of connection of moment frame. Composite mega column (ACT Column II) has same concept of forming closed cross section. But in order to enlarge cross sectional size, thick plate is inserted between cold-formed steels. Since composite mega column can control thickness and width of thick plate, steel or composite beams can be directly attached to the connection. In this study, we propose strength formula of composite mega column to beam connections with T-shaped stiffener as internal diaphragm and verified through finite element analysis and simple tensile experiment.

        Composite columns are increasingly used due to the construction of super-tall buildings and large-scale buildings. Studies on the shapes of and construction technologies for structural members using steel tubes are being conducted actively. Welded built-up CFT columns previously developed and commercialized by the authors of this study (ACT-1 columns) are structurally stable and economically efficient. However, the 1m limit in the width of the columns and their small interior spaces impose a difficulty in installing reinforcing materials and thus deteriorate the ease and efficiency with which they are constructed. This study suggests placing thick plates at the centers of the surfaces of the existing ACT-1 column and installing a binding frame (binding frames) at the central thick plates to enhance the integrity and resist lateral pressure caused by concrete casting. Finite element analysis was conducted with the variables of the number and cross-sectional size of the binding frame and the cross-sectional size of the steel tube to estimate the structural behavior of the steel tubes. Hydraulic tests were conducted to analyze load-displacement relations and identify the influence of the binding frames on the relations. The variables in the tests were the number and cross-sectional size of the binding frame, welding details, column joint and the cross-sectional size of the steel tube

        The industrialization and urbanization forced to increase the density of pipelines such as water supply, sewers, and gas pipelines. The materials used for the existing pipe lines are mostly composed of concretes and steels, but it is true that the development for more durable and efficient materials has been continued performed to produce long lasting pipe lines. Recently, underground pipes serve in diverse applications such as sewer lines, drain lines, water mains, gas lines, telephone and electrical conduits, culverts, oil lines, etc. In this paper, we present the result of investigation pertaining to the structural behavior of unplasticized polyvinyl chloride (PVC-U) flexible pipes buried underground. In the investigation of structural behavior such as a ring deflection, pipe stiffness, 4-point bending test, experimental and analytical studies are conducted. In addition, pipe stiffness is determined by the parallel plate loading tests and the finite element analysis. The difference between test and analysis is about 8% although there are significant variations in the mechanical properties of the pipe material. In addition, it was found by the 4-point bending test there is no problem in the connection between the pipes by coupler.

        In this paper, we present the result of analytical investigation pertaining to the structural behavior of steel-concrete composite plate girder with arch-type web stiffener. In the arch-type web stiffener located in the compression side of web, infill concrete is cast to strengthen the arch-type stiffener and also to exert resisting force against compression force. This type of composite steel-concrete plate girder bridge is built and is in service. To understand the behavior thoroughly, analytical parametric study was conducted by using the finite element method. As a result it was found that the effect of arch-type stiffener with infill concrete is considerable for the design of such type composite girder bridge.

        In this paper, we present the result of investigations pertaining to the elastic buckling of simply supported columns with various cross-sectional dimensions but the same length and volume. In the investigations the accuracy of the analysis methods is studied and it was found that the result obtained by the successive approximations technique is the most accurate. In addition, the elastic buckling loads of columns with variable cross-section dimensions are obtained by the theoretical and numerical methods. From the results, it was found that the buckling loads obtained by the numerical methods are close to the buckling loads obtained by the successive approximations technique for the practical standpoints. Moreover, the buckling load of column with convexity in its middle is the highest while the buckling load of the tapered column is the lowest as expected.

        Prestressed concrete (PSC) is a method in which prestressed tendon is placed inside and/or outside the reinforced concrete member and the compressive force applied to the concrete in advance to enhance the engineering properties of concrete member which is weak under tension. In this paper we suggested the precast PSC girder assembled with segments of portable size and weight at the factory. The segments of precast PSC girder will be delivered and assembled as a unit of PSC girder at the site. Consequently, we suggested new-type of precast segmented PSC girder with different shapes of segment cross-section (i.e., I-shape, Box-shape). To mitigate the problems associated with the field splice between the segments of precast PSC girder anchor system is attached near the neutral axis of the girder and relatively uniform compression throughout the girder cross-section is applied. Prior to the experimental investigation, analytical investigation on the structural behavior of precast PSC girder was performed and the serviceability (deflection) and safety (strength) of the girder were confirmed. In addition, 4-point bending test on the girder was conducted to investigate the structural performance under bending. From the experimental investigation, it was found that the precast PSC girder spliced with 3 and 5 segments has sufficient in serviceability and safety conditions and it was also observed that the point where the segments spliced has no defects and the girder behaves as a unit.

        Other countries(USA, Europe) have performed the fire resistance design of buildings by the alternative performance design methods, which are based on fire engineering theories. However, in Korea, the process on the alternative fire resistance performance design has only suggested without any applications for real steel structures. Therefore, In the case of steel structures stagnant research on refractory measures face difficulties in introducing fire resistance design. In this study, first of all, Intumescent paint was analyze the thermal properties(thermal conductivity, specific heat and density). In Sequence, using the section factor by H-standard section propose of section concrete filled steel tube and hollow. finally presents a reasonable thickness Intumescent paint takes time to target performance of the proposed cross-section steel tube.

        Fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) structural shapes are readily available in civil engineering applications. Among many manufacturing techniques used for FRP structural shapes, pultrusion process is one of the most widely used techniques in civil engineering applications. Pultrusion is a manufacturing process for producing continuous lengths of reinforced polymeric plastic structural shapes with constant cross-section. Pultruded composites are attractive for structural applications because of their continuous mass production with excellent mechanical properties. This paper presents the results of investigations pertaining to the bolted connection with two bolts for the pultruded FRP (PFRP) structural members. PFRP bolted connection tests were conducted with end distance to bolt diameter ratio (e1/db) and two types of bolt pattern such as horizontal (Pattern A) and vertical arrangement (Pattern B). As a result, it is found that the e1/db is recommended as the ratio of 4. In addition, it is also found that the bearing strengths at failure of the Pattern A and Pattern B have a similar value.

        Pultruded glass fiber reinforced polymeric plastic (PFRP) and FRP member manufactured by sheet molding compound (SMC) have superior mechanical and physical properties compared with those of conventional structural materials. Since FRP has an excellent corrosion-resistance and high specific strength and stiffness, the FRP material may be highly appreciated for the development of floating-type photovoltaic (PV) power generation system. In this paper, advanced floating PV generation system made of PFRP and SMC is designed. In the design, it includes tracking solar altitude by tilting photovoltaic arrays and tracking solar azimuth by spinning structures. Moreover, the results of the finite element analysis (FEA) are presented to confirm stability of entire structure under the external loads. Additionally, installation procedure and mooring systems in the Hap-Cheon Dam are discussed and the measurement of strain under the actual circumstances is conducted for assuring stability of actually installed structures. Finally, by comparison with allowable stress, appropriate safety of structure is confirmed to operate the system.

        Glass fiber reinforced plastic (GRP) pipes buried underground are attractive for use in harsh environments, such as for the collection and transmission of liquids which are abrasive and/or corrosive. In this paper, we present the result of investigation pertaining to the structural behavior of GRP flexible pipes buried underground. In the investigation of structural behavior such as a ring deflection, experimental and analytical studies are conducted. In addition, vertical ring deflection is measured by the field test and finite element analysis (FEA) is also conducted to simulate behavior of GRP pipe buried underground. Based on the results from the finite element analyses considering soil-pipe interaction the vertical ring deflection behavior of buried GRP pipe is predicted. In addition, analytical and experimental results are compared and discussed.

        In recent years, fiber reinforced polymer plastic composites are readily available in the construction industry. Fiber reinforced polymer composite has many advantages such as high specific strength and high specific stiffness, high corrosion resistance, light-weight, magnetic transparency, etc. In this paper, we present the result of investigation pertaining to the flexural behavior of flange strengthened I-shape pultruded fiber reinforced polymer plastic (PFRP) member using carbon fiber sheet (CFRP sheet). Test variable is consisted of the number of layers of strengthening CFRP sheet from 0 to 3. From the experimental results, flexural strengthening effect of flange strengthened I-shape PFRP member using CFRP sheet is evaluated and it was found that 2 layers of strengthening CFRP sheet are appropriate considering efficiency and workability.

        The construction of a moment connection for a rectangular hollow section (RHS) column and a H-shaped beam is difficult because the RHS is a closed section. When a inner diaphragm is used for such a connection, in general, it is installed after cutting the HSS columns, which results in increased construction work. This paper suggests a new fabrication method to overcome such problems: An inner diaphragm is welded to inside a C-shaped section first, and then a column is fabricated by welding two C-shaped sections. This fabrication method is superior to a classic method in terms of constructibility. An experimental and a numerical study using Ansys 9.0 were performed in order to compare the strength of connections with respect to the presence of concrete, the corner shape of diaphragm, and the axis of loading. The experimental results including initial stiffness and ultimate loads are reported and the analytical results including load transfer mechanism, degree of stress concentration, and strain distribution are also reported.

        Recently, underground pipes are utilized in various fields of applications such as sewer lines, drain lines, water mains, gas lines, telephone and electrical conduits, culverts, oil lines, etc. Most of pipes are installed for long-term purposes and they should be safely installed in consideration of installation conditions because there are unexpected various terrestrial loading conditions. In this paper, we present the result of investigation pertaining to the structural behavior of glass fiber reinforced thermosetting polymer plastic (GFRP) flexible pipes buried underground. The mechanical properties of the GFRP flexible pipes produced in the domestic manufacturer are determined and the results are reported in this paper. In addition, ring deflection is measured by the field tests and the finite element analysis (FEA) is also conducted to simulate the structural behavior of GFRP pipes buried underground. From the field test results, we predicted long-term, up to 50 years, ring deflection of GFRP pipes buried underground based on the method suggested by the existing literature. It was found that the GFRP flexible pipe to be used for cooling water intake system in the nuclear power plant is appropriate because 5% ring deflection limitation for 50 years could be satisfied.

        산지습지는 멸종위기야생동식물 II 급인 끈끈이주걱과 지표종인 이삭귀개, 잠자리난초, 물매화, 진퍼리새 등이 분포하여 중요성은 높으나, 자연적 또는 인위적인 과정에 의해 건조화가 빠르게 진행되고 있어 시급한 관리가 필요한 실정이다. 본 연구는 정확한 자연생태계 현황 및 건조화 진행 실태를 파악하여 습지생태계 보존대책과 건조화 관리 방안을 제시하고자 한다. 화엄늪은 경사도 10˚ 미만(86.1%), 해발 750~810m(87.4%)로 산지습지의 적지라고 할 수 있으나 하부에 깊이 1.6m, 폭 0.8m인 수로가 형성되어 이탄층 유실, 수위저하 등으로 인한 건조화 진행이 우려되었다. 습지보호지역 내 식생은 진퍼리새 등 습윤지성 식생이 분포하는 면적이 6.7%로 협소한 반면, 참억새, 미역줄나무 등 산림성 목본 및 건조지성 초본이 우점하여 방치시 숲생태계로의 천이가 예상된다. 건조화를 예방하고 양호한 생태계의 지속적인 보존을 위해 식생의 생태적 특성을 고려한 보존 및 관리지역 설정, 습지보호를 위해 천이에 영향을 미치는 주연부 식생 관리, 핵심지역 보호를 위한 완충지역 설정을 제안하였다. 관리에 있어서는 습지훼손 요인관리를 위하여 수계로의 과도한 지하수 유출 억제를 통한 물고임 습지 안정화와 산지습지 지표종에 대한 보호 및 관리식물 지정, 습지의 산림화를 유발 촉진할 수 있는 건조지성 수목을 관리해야 할 것이다.

        이 연구에서 GRP 관의 하중-처짐 거동을 조사, 보고하였다. 지중매성 GRP관은 높은 내화학성, 높은 부식저항성, 경 량성, 관표면의 매끄러움, 지반-관의 상호작용 고려에 따른 경제성 등의 탁원한 역학적, 물리적 특성들로 인해 건설 현장에서 광범위하게 사용되고 있다. 지중에 매설되는 연성관을 설계하기 위해서는 ASTM D 2412 (2010)에 따라야 한다. ASTM D 2412 (2010)에 따라 설계할 경우, 관의 원강성 (PS)을 편평시험에 따라 먼저 결정해야 하는데, 이 시 험이 귀찮고 노동력을 필요로 한다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 UTM에 설치된 형태의 GRP관의 하중-처짐 거동 을 유한요소법에 따라 모사하였으며, 유한요소법에 의한 모사에는 재료의 탄성계수와 단면의 기하학적 치수 등 기 초적인 자료를 사용하였다. 이와 같은 연구로부터, 관재료가 관의 단면내에서 비교적 일정하지 않음에도 불구하고 수직방향의 관변형이 3%와 5%가 발생할 경우, 편평시험과 수치해석적 연구 결과가 15%이내의 차이로 하중의 예측 이 가능함을 알 수 있었다.

        최근 지중매설 유리섬유복합관(GRP관)은 유해한 환경에서 뛰어난 성능을 보유하고 있어 하수관거용으로서 사용이 증가 되고 있다. 또한 지중에 매설되어 있는 조건에서 기존의 콘크리트관 등 강성관에 비해 구조적 성능이 뛰어나 다. 지중매설 GRP관은 주로 상부에 작용하는 상부토압과 활하중에 의한 압축응력에 의해 원주방향으로 변형이 일 어나게 된다. GRP관의 구조적 거동은 매설토와 주변의 지반의 성질에 따라 다르게 설계되어야 한다. GRP관의 설 계는 Spangler 의 변형량 계산식을 Watkins에 의해 수정되어 사용되고 있다. 이 연구에서는 Watkins의 관변형 추정 식에 GRP관의 재료적 특성을 고려하여 관변형량을 예측하였다.

        본 연구는 서울대공원 동물원에서 실시되고 있는 5개 해설프로그램의 만족도와 인식변화를 참가자 설문을 통해 분석하였다. 연구결과 프로그램의 전체 만족도는 높았으나, 이 중 참가자 태도에서 상대적으로 낮은 만족도를 보였으며 학부모가 안전성 측면에서 우려하는 정도가 높은 것으로 분석되었다. 각 프로그램 간 만족도는 프로그램별로 차이가 있는 것으로 분석되었으나 내용만족도에 있어서는 차이가 없었다. 마지막으로 각각의 동물해설 프로그램은 다소의 차이는 있으나 동물원에 대한 긍정적 인식변화에 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 동물원의 환경해설 프로그램은 동물원에 대한 정보를 보다 효과적으로 전달할 수 있는 매개로 작용하는 것을 확인하였으며, 동물원의 기능이 단순한 전시기능이 아닌 교육과 연구 등 다양하게 이루어지고 있다는 것을 통해 관심 또한 증대시킬 수 있는 효과적인 수단으로 작용하는 것으로 판단되었다. 이에 동물원 환경해설 프로그램을 보다 활성화 시킬 필요성이 있었다.

        Polycrystalline germanium (Ge) thin films were grown by metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) using tetra-allyl germanium [Ge(allyl)4], and germane (GeH4) as precursors. Ge thin films were grown on a TiN(50nm)/SiO2/Si substrate by varying the growth conditions of the reactive gas (H2), temperature (300-700˚C) and pressure (1-760Torr). H2 gas helps to remove carbon from Ge film for a Ge(allyl)4 precursor but not for a GeH4 precursor. Ge(allyl)4 exhibits island growth (VW mode) characteristics under conditions of 760Torr at 400-700˚C, whereas GeH4 shows a layer growth pattern (FM mode) under conditions of 5Torr at 400-700˚C. The activation energies of the two precursors under optimized deposition conditions were 13.4 KJ/mol and 31.0 KJ/mol, respectively.

        Non processed onion (Allium cepa L.) powder or onion powder processed with β-cyclodextrin+1% calcium chloride+1% soluble starch solution was added to the diet of 16 week old Wistar and spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) for 5 weeks. 36 SHR and Wistar rats were randomly divided into 3 diet groups, each of six. They were named control, NPO (non processed onion), PO (processed onion). The rats of the control group were fed diet without onion powder. To NPO and PO groups were added 5% of non processed onion and processed onion, respectively. Body weight gain, food efficiency ratio (FER), blood pressure, angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) activity and Na excretion of urine and feces were analyzed. The processed onion and non processed onion diet reduced body weight gain without affeting the total food intake in Wistar rats (p〈0.05). The body weight gain was lowest in Wistar rats fed with a diet with processed onion powder. The rats fed with diet containing PO or NPO had lower blood systolic blood pressure in SHR (p〈0.05). The effect of onion powder on decreasing the blood pressure was not significant in Wistar rats. The ACE activity in lung was lowered in the SHR fed with either PO or NPO (p〈0.05) compared to those fed with control diet. The urinary Na excretion was significantly lower in SHR than Wistar rats. The effects of PO and NPO on increasing the urinary and fecal excretion of Na were significant (p〈0.05). These results suggest that onion processed with β-cyclodextrin+1%+1% calcium chloride+1% soluble starch solution to reduce volatile flavor, browning and caking preserves an antihypertensive effect of non processed onion.
