포인세티아(Euphorbia pulcherrima. Willd. Ex Klotzch) ‘Red Ball’은 국립원예특작과학원에서 2019년에 육성한 품종이다. ‘Red Ball’은 긴 관상 기간을 가지는 ‘Christmas Eve’를 모본으로 빨간색 주름진 덮개잎이 볼 타입 꽃을 만드는 ‘Winter Rose Early Red’를 부본으로 교배하여 획득한 실생 계통을 선발하여 육성하였다. 2016년부터 2018년 생육, 개화, 균일성 등에 대하여 1,2차 특성 검정을 실시하였다. 이후 2019년 3차 특성검정을 실시하여 최종선발한 후 직무육성품종심의회에 상정하여 ‘Red Ball’로 명명하였다. ‘Red Ball’품종은 전체적으로 짧은 적색 덮개잎을 가지며 꽃 모양이 납작하지 않아 입체감이 높다. 또한 단일 처리후 약 5.5~6주가 경과하면 완전히 착색되어 출하가 가능할 만큼 착색소요기간이 짧다. ‘Red Ball’은 2021년 4월 12일에 국립종자원에 품종등록(제8497호) 되었다.

포인세티아(Euphorbia pulcherrima Willd. Ex Klotzch) ‘Flame’ 은 국립원예특작과학원에서 2015년에 육성한 품종이다. ‘Flame’ 은 단일감응기간이 짧은 적색 포엽의 깊은 열편을 가진 ‘Eckalba’ 와 밝은 적색의 포엽을 가진 국내 육성 품종 ‘Candle Light’를 2013년에 교배하여 획득한 실생 계통을 선발 육성하였다. 2014 년부터 2015년까지 생육 및 개화 특성, 균일성에 대하여 1, 2차 특성검정을 실시하였으며, 2015년에 3차 특성검정을 실시하여 최종선발한 후 직무육성품종심의회에 상정하여 ‘Flame’으로 명명하였다. ‘Flame’ 품종의 포엽은 밝은 적색을 띠며 열편이 깊다. 초장과 초폭은 중간이나 적심하지 않아도 많은 분지가 발생하여 풍성한 수형을 이룬다. 단일처리후 약 7.5주가 경과하면 완전히 착색되어 출하가 가능하다. 이 품종은 2018년 1월 24일에 국립 종자원에 품종등록(등록번호 6921호)되었다.

포인세티아 ‘Red Wing’은 국립원예특작과학원에서 2017년에 육성한 품종이다. ‘Red Wing’ 품종은 진한 적색의 주름이 많은 포엽을 가진 ‘Red Breeds’와 분홍색의 포엽과 결각이 있는 잎을 가진 ‘Enduring Pink’를 2013년에 교배하여 획득한 실생 계통을 선발하여 육성하였다. 2015년부터 2016년까지 생육특성, 개화특성, 균일성에 대하여 1, 2차 특성검정을 실시하였으며, 2017년에 3차 특성검정을 실시하여 최종 선발한 후 직무육성품종심의회에 상정하여 ‘Red Wing’으로 명명하였다. ‘Red Wing’ 품종은 밝고 진한 적색의 주름진 타원 모양의 포엽과 열편이 거의 없는 달걀형의 잎을 가진다. 초장과 초폭은 중간이나 줄기가 굵고 튼튼해 균형감 있는 수형을 이룬다. 단일 처리 후 약 8주가 경과하면 완전히 착색되어 출하가 가능 하다. 이 품종은 2019년 1월 19일에 국립종자원에 품종등록 (등록번호 7454호)되었다.

포인세티아 ‘Red Elf’는 국립원예특작과학원에서 2014년에 육성한 품종이다. 진한 적색의 ‘Max Red’와 분홍색의 주름이 많은 상향성의 포엽을 가진 ‘Pink Elf’를 2010년에 교배하여 획 득한 실생 계통을 선발하여 육성한 품종이다. 2012년부터 2013년까지 생육특성, 개화특성, 균일성에 대하여 1, 2차 특성 검정을 실시하였다. 2014년에 3차 특성검정을 실시하여 최종 선발하였으며, 직무육성품종심의회에 상정하여 ‘Red Elf’로 명 명하였다. ‘Red Elf’품종은 적색의 상향성인 포엽과 열편이 거 의 없는 착색엽이 우수한 화형을 형성한다. 초장이 작고 엽병 이 짧은 잎몸을 가진 줄기의 발생이 많아서 균형 잡힌 수형을 이룬다. 단일 처리 후 약 8주가 경과하면 완전히 착색되어 출 하가 가능하다. 이 품종은 2016년 3월 17일에 국립종자원에 품종등록(등록번호 5953호)되었다.

A new standard rose cultivar ‘Green Star’ was bred from the cross between pink color standard cultivar ‘Pastel move’ and red color standard cultivar ‘Vital’ at the National Institute of Horticulture & Herbal Science. The cross was made in 2008 and ‘Green Star’ was finally selected in 2013 after investigating characteristics for three years from 2011 to 2013. ‘Green Star’, a light yellow standard cultivar grows vigorously and has good and big shape. The major characteristics of this cultivar are 122.0 stems/㎡/year in yield, 77.0±8.0 cm in length of cut flower, 12.1±0.4 cm in flower diameter, 37.7±4.2 in petal number, and 11.0±1.4 days in vase life. This cultivar can be propagated by both cutting and grafting. The consumer’s preference of this cultivar is relatively higher than that of control cultivar, ‘Moonlight’.

A new light purple rose cultivar ‘Violetta’ was bred from the cross between light purple standard cultivar ‘Ocean Song’ and yellow standard cultivar ‘golden gate’ at the National Institute of Horticulture & Herbal Science. The cross was made in 2010 and ‘Violetta’ was finally selected in 2013 after investigating characteristics for three years from 2011 to 2013. ‘Violetta’, a light purple color standard cultivar grows vigorously and has good shape and good vase life. The major characteristics of this cultivar are 167.1 stems/㎡/year in yield, 77.9±6.0 cm in length of cut flower, 12.8±0.3 cm in flower diameter, 55.5±4.9 in petal number, and 13.1±1.6 days in vase life. This cultivar can be propagated by both cutting and grafting. The consumer’s preference of this cultivar is relatively higher than that of control cultivar, ‘Aqua’.

A new spray rose cultivar ‘Red Zen’ was bred from the cross between dark pink spray cultivar ‘Dollina’ and orange spray cultivar ‘Alegria’ at the National Institute of Horticulture & Herbal Science. The cross was made in 2007 and ‘Red Zen’ was finally selected in 2011 after investigating characteristics for four years from 2009 to 2011. ‘Red Zen’, a red spray cultivar grows vigorously and has good and big shape. The major characteristics of this cultivar are 116.0 stems/㎡/year in yield, 72.5±7.0 cm in length of cut flower, 6.0±0.1 cm in flower diameter, 22.5±2.5 in petal number, and 11.8±1.2 days in vase life. This cultivar can be propagated by both cutting and grafting. The consumer’s preference of this cultivar is relatively higher than that of control cultivar, ‘Little Mable’.

A new standard rose cultivar ‘Big Bang’ was bred from the cross between Yellow standard cultivar ‘Landora’ and Yellow standard cultivar ’Birdy’ at the National Institute of Horticulture & Herbal Science. The cross was made in 2005 and ‘Big Bang’ was finally selected in 2011 after investigating characteristics for three years from 2009 to 2011. ‘Big Bang’, a red standard cultivar grows vigorously and has Crown Gall Resistnat. The major characteristics of this cultivar are 119.8 stems/㎡/year in yield, 99.0±12.6 cm in length of cut flower, 13.5±0.3 cm in flower diameter, 40.0±3.2 in petal number, and 9.0±0.4 days in vase life. This cultivar can be propagated by both cutting and grafting. The consumer’s preference of this cultivar is relatively higher than that of control cultivar, ‘Vital’.

A new spray rose cultivar ‘Peach Zen’ was bred from the cross between yellow spray cultivar ‘Sunny Lady’ and red spray cultivar ‘Madonna’ at the National Institute of Horticulture & Herbal Science. The cross was made in 2007 and ‘Peach Zen’ was finally selected in 2011 after investigating characteristics for three years from 2009 to 2011. ‘Peach Zen’, a light pink spray cultivar grows vigorously and has good shape and good vase life. The major characteristics of this cultivar are 128.4 stems/㎡/year in yield, 76.4±6.3 cm in length of cut flower, 5.8±0.6 cm in flower diameter, 39.3±4.2 in petal number, and 12.6±1.2 days in vase life. This cultivar can be propagated by both cutting and grafting. The consumer’s preference of this cultivar is relatively higher than that of control cultivar, ‘Little Mable’.
