In the past, only one species known for Subtribe Physoderina from Korea. In this study reporting 2 genera and 2 species, Lachnoderma asperum Bates, 1883 and Physodera unicolor Ma, Shi & Liang, 2017, as new record to Korea. Taxonomic key, adult habitus, genitalia and distributional information are provided.
Until now, 12 subspeceis of Eucarabus (Parhomopterus) sternbergi has been recorded in South Korea and some were described by foreign entomologist without comparative examination. In addition, most of them were not reviewed since the original description. Therefore, based on this study, all subspecies of this group in South Korea were revised taxonomically, and a new subspecific key was provided. As a result, 8 subspecies of Eucarabus (Parhomopterus) sternbergi were confirmed in South Korea and their new synonyms are as follows: Eucarabus (Parhomopterus) sternbergi sternbergi (Roeschke, 1898) = E. (P.) s. gimhwa (Rapuzzi, 2015); E. (P.) s. honamensis (Kwon et Lee, 1984) = E. (P.) s. jindoensis (Rapuzzi, 2015) = E. (P.) s. goheungicus (Rapuzzi, 2015); E. (P.) s. schnelli (Lassalle, 1999) = E. (P.) s. deogyusan (Rapuzzi, 2015).
Carabidae is one of the largest family in Coleoptera, approximately as a 90% of Adephaga. Up to now, 40,000 species of 33 subfamilies are known worldwide. Therefore, they have been adapting to a variety of environments. This family belong to the superfamily Caraboidea of suborder Adephaga. Among them, family Trachypachidae is very similar to family Carabidae and family Rysodidae sometimes has been treated as a subfamily of this. In addition, from the past to the present, the classification of family Carabidae has been complicated in the states of higher taxa by authors etc. Recently, the taxonomic studies upgraded according the advanced natural science, genetic or phylogenetic methods and development of new methods etc. Nevertheless, their classification is still mainly based on the external morphology and the genital characters. Multiple application of these classification methods, including genetic analysis, endophallus inflation and microscopic observation etc., are being help to solve the taxonomic problems of family Carabidae.
A Truncatipennes species, Pentagonica subcordicollis Bates is newly recorded in Korea. Here we provide a diagnosis and systematic accounts of P. subcordicollis. Consequently, a total of three species of Pentagonia have been recorded in the Korea, including the present species.
Cambodia covers an area of 181,035 sq km among them, forests cover 53 percent. As a tropical monsoon climate, average annual rainfall is about 1,400 mm(about 55 in) on the central plain and increases to as much as 3,800 mm (150 in) in the mountains and along the coast. The average annual temperature is about 27°C (about 80°F). There are many wildlife diversity in Cambodia, but regulated or unregulated logging and mining have diminished the country's wildlife rapidly. This expedition was conducted three times in 2009 (7.2-7.11, 10.16-22, 12.25-12.30). Central Cadamon Protected Forest (N 11° 41' 13" E 103° 26' 31.3") and Seima Biodiversity Conservation Area (N 12° 08' 20.8", E 106° 55' 2.7") were main area surveyed by pitfall trap, light trap and sweeping etc. As the result, totally 611 individuals of 11 families in Coleoptera was collected, among them Gonocephalumspecies of Tenebrionidae was highest number and species in Melonthidae, Chrysomelidae and Dynastidae etc., were collected, specially kind of Hydrophilidae species from wetland was surved in the expedition.
Acoptolabrus mirabilissimus sangjuensis ssp. nov. from Mt. llweolsan, Korea is described new to science. Classificational key, photo of types and distributional map are provided herein.
