This study deals with the vibration transmissibility of a vibration isolation device, which is composed of frictional damping and nonlinear softening springs, when its base is harmonically excited. The SCAP method, a type of averaging method, is employed to obtain steady-state responses. The vibration characteristics due to excitation of the base are investigated through the analysis of displacement transmissibility in the steady-state response. In this process, displacement transmissibility for design parameters is analyzed, and the stability of the response is also investigated. The vibration isolation effect due to frictional damping is found to be more effective in the case of the softening spring than in the case of the hardening spring. Additionally, the pattern of the jump phenomenon observed during frequency sweeping, both upward and downward, has been identified.
The purpose of this study is to develop and apply an oil leak detector using a capacitive sensor to detect oil leak in hydraulic equipment. The developed oil leak detector consists of a sensor and a sensing circuit. The sensor is designed using the difference in the permittivity of air and oil to change the capacitance, and the sensing circuit is composed of a charge amplifier and rectifier circuit. The sensing device is made of a PCB module to output the DC analog signal. In this study, this oil detector was installed in a cyclic pressure tester for evaluating valve life and was applied to detect the leakage of the test valve. It can also be applied to detecting the oil leakage of various hydraulic types of equipment and reduce maintenance costs by preventing large leakage of hydraulic oil.
The damping effects on stabilities of a simply supported pipe conveying fluid is investigated using the complexification-averaging method. The flow is assumed to vary harmonically about a mean speed. Unstable conditions of a piping system included with the viscous and material damping are analytically obtained for primary, secondary and combination parametric resonances. The primary and secondary resonances occur when the frequency of flow fluctuation is close to one and two times the natural frequency. And when this frequency is close to the sum of any two natural frequencies, combination resonances occur. The effects of damping parameters on the regions of three parametric resonances are discussed.
This study assessed the removal efficiency of NOM which is known as the precursors of DBPs in advanced water treatment using the ceramic membrane filtration, introduced the first in the nation at the Y water treatment plant (WTP). It is generally well-known that the removal of NOM by MF Membrane is very low in water treatment process. But, the result of investigation on removal efficiency of NOM in advanced water treatment using the ceramic membrane was different as follows. The removal rate of organic contaminant by the ceramic membrane advanced water treatment was determined to be 65.5% for the DOC, 85.8% for UV254, and 77 to 86% for DBPFP. The removal rate of pre-ozonation was found to be 6 to 15% more effective compared with the pre-chlorination. The removal rate of DOC and UV254 in biological activated carbon(BAC) process was over 50% and 75%, respectively although the rate was decreased 10 ~ 20% according to analysis items in converting from GAC to BAC.
The mother machine makes the necessary shape by processing materials such as metal. The SCFs are applied to the processing surface when the mother machine processes the material, thereby improving the cutting conditions. SCFs contain high concentrations of organic components and nitrogen compounds, which can cause problems such as eutrophication and algae bloom. Therefore, proper treatment is required. Electrochemical treatment is expected to be an alternative to conventional processes, and to be useful in various wastewater treatments. Moreover, it is an efficient elimination technique for contaminants and has a simple equipment composition. In this study, the removal efficiency of the T-N contained in the waste SCF using electrochemical treatment is analyzed. The electrode was made of titanium and iridium, made into a perforated metal sheet to prevent an imbalance of the sample concentration in the reactor. Experiments were conducted to examine the effects of current density and the concentration of the supporting electrolyte (NaCl, Na2SO4) on removal efficiency. In the cases with 60 A/m2, 80 A/m2, and 100 A/m2 current densities, the removal efficiencies of the T-N contained in the waste SCF were 51.03%, 68.83%, and 79.58%. Comparing between the addition and non-addition of NaCl, the removal efficiency with the addition of NaCl (5 ~ 10 mM) was higher than for no addition at 60 min for all current densities. The addition of Na2SO4 increased the removal rate of the T-N, but it was less effective than NaCl addition.
Soluble Cutting Fluids (SCFs) have been used in metal machining processes to improve the quality of metal processing equipment and products. Although SCFs are useful and essential material, wasted soluble cutting fluids are harmful in hydroecological systems because of the high concentration of COD and nitrogen material. If discharged to hydroecological systems without specific treatment, they may cause eutrophication in rivers and lakes. Therefore, the removal efficiency of the COD contained in the SCFs is investigated in this study using electrochemical treatment with an insoluble electrode. The electrode was made of titanium with iridium plating, made from a perforated metal sheet to agitate the sample in the reactor. Cathode and anode electrodes were inserted into acrylic reactor alternately and the reaction time was one hour. The experimental results were as follows: First, for 60 A/m2, 80 A/m2, and 100 A/m2 current densities, the COD removal efficiencies were 42.0%, 63.9%, and 78.4%, respectively.
The use of Soluble Cutting Fluids (SCF) is essential in the development of industrial technology. However, it is difficult to decompose biologically due to its high concentrations of organic substances and nitrogen compounds, which interfere with microbial growth. Recently, Advanced Oxidation Processes are being studied both domestically and internationally. Electrolysis is highly adaptable industrial wastewater treatment because it has high removal efficiency and short processing time, regardless of the contaminant’s biodegradable nature. Accordingly, this study shows the characteristics of total nitrogen removal in SCF on the operating time, current density, and electrolytes when using aluminum in a batch-type reactor. The results are as follows: ① Under the condition of without the electrolyte when the current density was adjusted to 40 A/m2, 60 A/m2, or 80 A/m2, the respective T-N removal efficiencies were 71.7%, 80.6%, and 87.2% at 60 min. ② In the comparison for the condition of whether NaCl was added, the removal efficiency of adding NaCl (5 ~ 10 mM) was higher than non-addition at 60 min for all current densities. ③ In the comparison for the condition of whether Na2SO4 (5 ~ 10 mM) was added, the removal efficiency when adding Na2SO4 showed no significant difference compared to non-addition at 60 min for all current densities.
In this study, pressure drop was measured in the pulse jet bag filter without venturi on which 16 numbers of filter bags (Ø140 × 850 ℓ) are installed according to operation condition(filtration velocity, inlet dust concentration, pulse pressure, and pulse interval) using coke dust from steel mill. The obtained 180 pressure drop test data were used to predict pressure drop with multiple regression model so that pressure drop data can be used for effective operation condition and as basic data for economical design.
The prediction results showed that when filtration velocity was increased by 1%, pressure drop was increased by 2.2% which indicated that filtration velocity among operation condition was attributed on the pressure drop the most. Pressure was dropped by 1.53% when pulse pressure was increased by 1% which also confirmed that pulse pressure was the major factor affecting on the pressure drop next to filtration velocity. Meanwhile, pressure drops were found increased by 0.3% and 0.37%, respectively when inlet dust concentration and pulse interval were increased by 1% implying that the effects of inlet dust concentration and pulse interval were less as compared with those changes of filtration velocity and pulse pressure. Therefore, the larger effect on the pressure drop the pulse jet bag filter was found in the order of filtration velocity(Vf), pulse pressure(Pp), inlet dust concentration(Ci), pulse interval(Pi).
Also, the prediction result of filtration velocity, inlet dust concentration, pulse pressure, and pulse interval which showed the largest effect on the pressure drop indicated that stable operation can be executed with filtration velocity less than 1.5 m/min and inlet dust concentration less than 4 g/m3. However, it was regarded that pulse pressure and pulse interval need to be adjusted when inlet dust concentration is higher than 4 g/m3. When filtration velocity and pulse pressure were examined, operation was possible regardless of changes in pulse pressure if filtration velocity was at 1.5 m/min. If filtration velocity was increased to 2 m/min. operation would be possible only when pulse pressure was set at higher than 5.8 kgf/cm2. Also, the prediction result of pressure drop with filtration velocity and pulse interval showed that operation with pulse interval less than 50 sec. should be carried out under filtration velocity at 1.5 m/min. While, pulse interval should be set at lower than 11 sec. if filtration velocity was set at 2 m/min.
Under the conditions of filtration velocity lower than 1 m/min and high pulse pressure higher than 7 kgf/cm2, though pressure drop would be less, in this case, economic feasibility would be low due to increased in installation and operation cost since scale of dust collection equipment becomes larger and life of filtration bag becomes shortened due to high pulse pressure.
This research had been conducted from May to October 2007, studying 110 residents of G, Y, H industrial area in Jun-nam province. It is designed to understand the difference in levels of indoor, outdoor and personal exposure to VOCs(benzene, toluene, Ethylbenzene) and a health risk assessment was conducted to see if there was any fatal cause from carcinogenic or non - carcinogenic elements from a case group and a control group in all areas as well as each different area. In the case of benzene in the air, the geometric levels for the case group are indoor, outdoor and personal exposure; a higher than for the control group. As a results of the Monte - Carlo study about benzene, it shows that the case group’s carcinogenicity is higher than that of the control group and it also shows that, on the CTE, RME condition and Monte - Carlo analysis, all subjects are seen to exceed the carcinogenicity tolerance 10-6 of US EPA. In the case of toluene, ethylbenzene on the CTE, RME condition and Monte - Carlo analysis, these do not exceed the non - carcinogenic standard of 1, but toluene in RME condition for both groups’ personal exposure and the indoor and personal exposure of ethylbenzene in Monte - Carlo show that these seem to exceed the standard.
This study were to simulate major criteria air pollutants and estimate regional source-receptor relationship using air quality prediction model (TAPM ; The Air Pollution Model) in the Seoul Metropolitan area. Source-receptor relationship was estimated by contribution of each region to other regions and region itself through dividing the Seoul metropolitan area into five regions. According to administrative boundary, region Ⅰ and region Ⅱ were Seoul and Incheon in order. Gyeonggi was divided into three regions by directions like southern(region Ⅲ), northern(Ⅳ) and eastern(Ⅴ) area. Gridded emissions (1km×1km) by Clean Air Pollicy Support System (CAPSS) of National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER) was prepared for TAPM simulation. The operational weather prediction system, Regional Data Assimilation and Prediction System (RDAPS) operated by the Korean Meteorology Administration (KMA) was used for the regional weather forecasting with 30km grid resolution. Modeling period was 5 continuous days for each season with non-precipitation . The results showed that region Ⅰ was the most air-polluted area and it was 3~4 times more polluted region than other regions for NO2, SO2 and PM10. Contributions of SO2 NO2 and PM10 to region Ⅰ, Ⅱ and Ⅲ were more than 50 percent for their own sources. However region Ⅳ and Ⅴ were mostly affected by sources of region Ⅰ, Ⅱ and Ⅲ. When emissions of all regions were assumed to reduce 10 and 20 percent separately, air pollution of each region was reduced linearly and the contributions of reduction scenario were similar to those of base case. As input emissions were reduced according to different ratio - region Ⅰ 40 percent, region Ⅱ and Ⅲ 20 percent, region Ⅳ and Ⅴ 10 percent, air pollutions of region Ⅰ and Ⅲ were decreased remarkably. The contributions to regionⅠ, Ⅱ, Ⅲ were also reduced for their own sources. However, region Ⅰ, Ⅱ and Ⅲ affected more regions Ⅳ and Ⅴ. Shortly, graded reduction of emission could be more effective to control air pollution in emission imbalanced area.
Many recent studies have concentrated upon the radiative effects of atmospheric aerosols. Though their scattering and absorption of radiation, aerosols can also induce some other important environment effects. In this study, new radiation code and aerosol data within Atmosphere General Circulation Model (AGCM) is used to assess the aerosol radiative forcing and to analyze relative climate effects. The new Kangnung National University AGCM Stratospheric-15 (KNU AGCM ST15) was integrated by using two sets of radiative effect of aerosols : CTRL as not a radiative effect of aerosols and AERO as a radiative effect of aerosols. Two cases show the difference of net shortwave radiation budget at top-of-atmosphere (TOA) is found to be about -3.4 Wm-2, at the surface (SFC) is about -5.6 Wm-2. Consequently the mean atmospheric absorption due to aerosol layer in global is about 2.2 Wm-2. This result confirms the existence of a negative forcing due to the direct effect of aerosols at the surface and TOA in global annual mean. In addition, it is found that cooling over at the surface air temperature due to radiative effect of aerosols is about 0.17 ℃. It is estimated that radiative forcing of the net upward longwave radiation taken as the indirect effect of aerosol is much smaller than that of the direct effect as there is about 0.2 Wm-2 of positive forcing both at TOA and at SFC. From this study, It made an accurate estimation of considering effect of aerosols that is negative effect. This may slow the rate of projected global warming during the 21st century.
The combined wastewater of municipal landfill leachate and municipal sewage was treated using several sets of bench-scale aerated circulating system including porous media. Investigated items in this experiment were the dominant protozoa and metazoa in this system, the variation of microfauna relationship between operating condition and dominant genera. Also considered the factors determining dominant genera and their role.
The outcome of this research is as follows;
1. Aspidisca, Vorticella, Trachellophyllum, Lecane, Philodina, Cyclops were mainly appeared prior to combinding leachate, while Trachelocerca, Bodo, Glaucoma were the dominant genera after combinding leachate.
2. As to metazoa, Nematode and Philodina were not influenced by 5% leachate mixing ratio, meanwhile Crustacea has high sensitivity for increased leachate mixing ratio and it was not appeared in 5% leachate mixing ratio.
3. The appropriate treatability could`nt be expected at the above 10% leachate mixing ratio. Especially, in the condition of 20% leachate mixing ratio, all of the microfauna were affected damage seriously on their existence. Meanwhile hydraulic retention time, substrate loading rate and sludge production rate didn`t give notable influence on increasing the number of microfauna.
4. As to protozoa, saprozoic and holozoic species were appeared commonly and polysaprobic species were dominent.
5. Filamentous organsms were nearly not affeced by leachate mixing. It seems that they could live without any trouble at the 10% leachate mixing ratio, if the substrate is sufficient.
6. Diversity of microfauna had a reducing trernd as the sewage was mixed with leachate.
