The study is aimed at investigating the impact of self- and peer-assessment on students’ teacher efficacy and satisfaction in lesson planning at a university foreign language pedagogy course. Four self- and peer-assessment sessions for developing pedagogically sound lesson plans were held for 7 weeks. Nineteen students participated in the study. A student questionnaire was collected to see if self- and peer-assessment affected students’ teacher efficacy twice in weeks 1 and 7. In addition, in-depth interviews were conducted to understand students’ perceptions of self- and peer-assessment in terms of its benefits and room for improvement. The research revealed the findings as follows. Firstly, there was a statistically significant impact of self- and peer-assessment of lesson plans on both domains of teacher-efficacy: personal teaching efficacy and teaching outcome expectancy. Secondly, students found self- and peer-assessment satisfactory and useful when building lesson plans. Thirdly, themes for benefits of self- and peer-assessment were ‘objective perspective,’ ‘heightened insight,’ and ‘reflective thinking.’ Lastly, two themes for room for improvement in peer-assessment were ‘offering positive feedback’ and ‘working on the same period.’

This study investigated the effects of self and peer evaluations and learners’ involvement on the development of assessment criteria in higher education English literature classes. A total of 40 college students participated in the study, extracting five main criteria with 10 sub-standards to assess their group assignments and conduct self- and peer evaluation on their presentations. The results of the learners’ selfand peer assessments were compared with instructor’s assessments and their final grades using one-way ANOVA and correlation analysis. The study also examined the correlation among the assessment criteria to find which factors affected learning outcomes. The study concluded that their participation in the development of assessment criteria positively, affected their critical thinking ability and the selection of subjects for the group presentations. Logicality of writing also affected the outcomes of final assessments. The study concluded that self- and peer assessments can be highly effective in learning processes when learners actively participate in setting the assessment criteria.

This study explores university students’ revising behaviors in the peer assessment process. The data for this study were collected from 18 college students taking English critical writing courses. The results of this study show that the students’ feedback on critical writing significantly affect their revising behaviors. That is, the students’ feedback had substantial variability in the process of revising and improving their critical essays. Specifically, it was found that the students revised their essays more in surface levels by self-reflection and peer feedback and more in meaning levels by teacher feedback. In addition, the students’ perceptions of peer assessment appeared to be related to the extent of their experience of peer assessment and their revision work by peer feedback. The students considered peer assessment useful and helpful for improving their writing skills. This peer assessment induces learning and promotes further learning beyond what the students currently know or are able to do. The results inform L2 writing test developers and researchers about the extent to which peer assessment affects students’ learning and improves their writing abilities. Based on the findings in this study, the implications related to the assessment policy are also discussed.

For evaluating participation in collaboration project, the peer assement method is mostly used and various scoring methods have been proposed. But, the reliability and validity of the peer assessment method are still doubted for all most method. In order to overcome these weaknesss, some guidelines and training methods have been recommended. In this article, however, statistical technique is proposed for measuring individual contributions to collaboration projects considering each assessor’s reliability. The gist of our proposed algorithm is that an assessor’s reliability depends on the evaluation policy, and this reliability is evaluated by an analysis of variance of the scores assigned by the assessor. We also show that the proposed method is very efficient by case study in university class.

A peer assessment method was implemented as part of an action research project where the primary goal was to create constructivist science classrooms. Student reflective writings, which had been created in the process of action research, were analyzed to examine the perceptions of the students concerning the peer assessment method employed in their earth science classrooms. Five perception categories and thirteen statements were developed from the student writings. These indicated that the students appreciated the positive nature of peer assessment and the effects of it as an alternative method for promoting learning. It was also revealed, however, that some students displayed inappropriate behaviors toward peer assessment which led to negative perceptions of the new assessment method. Implications for future use of peer assessment in science classrooms are discussed. Limitations founded in the present study as well as possible solutions are provided.
