본 연구는 거래비용, 협상력 및 행동주의 관점을 기반으로 1999년 말 현재 전세계에 진출해 있는 444개 일본제조기업의 3,236개 생산자회사를 대상으로 소유지분 결정 요인을 실증 분석하였다. 본 연구결과에 따르면 거래비용 요인 중 기업특유의 지식, 제품의 국제적 다각화 여부 및 현지국의 정치적 위험이 일본제조기업의 소유지분 의사결정에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었다. 또한, 협상력 요인 중 현지국의 소유지분 제한정도가 소유지분 결정에 있어 중요한 영향을 미치는 것으로 밝혀졌다.

This paper examines the determinants of the entry strategies of 3,236 foreign manufacturing subsidiaries of 444 Japanese multinational enterprises (JMNEs). The interface between the determinants and the selection of the entry modes is analyzed based on the theoretical background of the transaction cost economics, the bargaining power, and the behavioral approach. The test results indicate that the transaction cost related factors such as firm-specific knowledge, international product diversification, and political risk of host countries have significantly influenced the foreign ownership strategy of manufacturing JMNEs. Among the bargaining power related determinants, the ownership restriction of host countries also shows its significant effect on the choice of the Japanese foreign ownership strategy.
