현재 ‘김교신 일보(日步)’(김교신의 비공개 일기)는 30여 권 중 단 두 권만 남아 있다. 김교신이 1938년 2월 자신의 모든 일기를 불태워버린 것으로 알려져 왔기 때문에 두 권의 일기가 생존하게 된 이유는 아무도 설명하지 못하는 미스터리가 되었다. 그런데 최근 전인수와 류대영은 김교신 일보가 생존하게 된 이유를 새롭게 제시했다. 이들은 일기를 모두 태웠다는 기존의 견해가 잘못되었다는 점에서 동의했으나 일보의 보존 가능성에 대해서는 미묘한 입장차를 보였다. 전인수는 김교신이 일보를 전혀 소각하지 않았다는 입장이고, 류대영은 1930년 5월 이전의 일보만을 소각했다는 입장이다. 이에 본고는 김교신 일보가 어떻게 생존하게 되었는가에 대한 견해들을 재검토하고, 두 권을 제외한 대부분의 일보가 역사 속에 사라진 계기가 무엇이었는지를 추적하였다. 본고는 김교신 일보가 1938년 2월이 아닌 1942년 성서조선사건 때 압수 수색으로 사라졌을 가능성을 제시하였다.

Today, ‘A Daily Walk: Kim Kyoshin’s Journal’ (undisclosed diary of Kim Kyoshin) has only two volumes remaining from some 30 volumes. It has been known that Kim Kyoshin burned all of his journals in February 1938 that it has been a mystery no one can attest for the reason for these two volumes of diary still survived. However, Jeon In-Soo and Ryu Dae-Young have recently proposed the reason for A Daily Walk: Kim Kyoshin’s Journal to be still available today. They agree that there has been misunderstanding as to the present proposition of all the journals were burned off, but there is a subtle difference of opinion as to the possibility of conservation of the journals. Jeon In-Soo is in the position that Kim Kyoshin did not burned the journals at all while Ryu Dae-Young is in a position that the journals prior to May 1930 were burned off. Therefore, this article has reviewed the opinions on how A Daily Walk: Kim Kyoshin’s Journal survived and what is the reason for all journals other than two volumes were disappeared in the history. This article presents the possibility of ‘A Daily Walk: Kim Kyoshin’s Journal’ disappearing from the search and seizure during the Bible and Chosen Incident in 1942, not February 1938.
