As a measure of health, the percentage of body fat has been utilized for many ergonomist, physician, athletic trainers, and work physiologists. Underwater weighing procedure for measuring the percentage of body fat is popular and accurate. However, it is relatively expensive, difficult to perform and requires large space. Anthropometric techniques can be utilized to predict the percentage of body fat in the field setting because they are easy to implement and require little space. In this concern, the purpose of this study was to find a regression model to easily predict the percentage of body fat using the anthropometric circumference measurements as predictor variables. In this study, the data for 10 anthropometric circumference measurements for 252 men were analyzed. A full model with ten predictor variables was constructed based on subjective knowledge and literature. The linear regression modeling consists of variable selection and various assumptions regarding the anticipated model. All possible regression models and the assumptions are evaluated using various statistical methods. Based on the evaluation, a reduced model was selected with five predictor variables to predict the percentage of body fat. The model is : % Body Fat = 2.704-0.601 (Neck Circumference) + 0.974 (Abdominal Circumference) -0.332 (Hip Circumference) + 0.409 (Arm Circumference) - 1.618 (Wrist Circumference) + ε. This model can be used to estimate the percentage of body fat using only a tape measure.

How to measure and evaluate the performance of managing a store? Although it is important for a retailer to execute good management in a store, there are few efficient measurement tools and methods for In-store management. Also few people are trying to deal with variety of goods (number of categories), depth of a catagory (number of stock-keeping units within a category), and stock level (the number of individual items of a particular SKU) in a store. To solve the problem, this paper suggests the Customer-Retailer Collaboration (CRC) model that utilizes Gamification. By embedding gaming elements, the store management activities can be viewed as more game-like processes. Customers find some problems they encountered in the store and send the related signals via mobile APP, and the relevant store personnel copes with the signals. As the return for their collaboration, they both will obtain points and badge. This paper designs the CRC model and shows the flow of the model briefly.

Technology-oriented national R&D programs produce intellectual property as their final result. Patents, as typical industrial intellectual property, are therefore considered an important factor when evaluating the outcome of R&D programs. Among the main components of patent evaluation, in particular, the patent right quality is a key component constituting patent value, together with marketability and usability. Current approaches for patent right quality evaluation rely mostly on intrinsic knowledge of patent attorneys, and the recent rapid increase of national R&D patents is making expert-based evaluation costly and time-consuming. Therefore, this study defines a hierarchy of patent right quality and then proposes how to quantify the evaluation process of patent right quality by combining text mining and regression analysis. This study will contribute to understanding of the systemic view of the patent right quality evaluation, as well as be an efficient aid for evaluating patents in R&D program assessment processes.

In this paper, we study the bargaining strategy of a distributor who sells vertically differentiated, i.e. high and low brand products. We derive and analyze the equilibrium solutions for both simultaneous and sequential bargaining games among the distributor, the high brand product manufacturer and the low brand product manufacturer. The result shows that the optimal bargaining strategy for the distributor heavily depends on the relative quality and price level of the low brand product comparing to those of the high brand product. It is also shown that, for more bargaining profit, the distributor has strong motivation to prefer a low brand product which has lower quality level per unit price.

The modular assembly system can make it possible for the variety of products to be assembled in a short lead time. In this system, necessary components are assembled to optional components tailor to customers’ orders. Budget for inventory investments composed of inventory and purchasing costs are practically limited and the purchasing cost is often paid when an order is arrived. Service cost is assumed to be proportional to service level and it is included in budget constraint. We develop a heuristic procedure to find a good solution for a continuous review inventory system of the modular assembly system with a budget constraint. A regression analysis using a quadratic function based on the exponential function is applied to the cumulative density function of a normal distribution. With the regression result, an efficient heuristics is proposed by using an approximation for some complex functions that are composed of exponential functions only. A simple problem is introduced to illustrate the proposed heuristics.

This paper deals with rescheduling on unrelated parallel-machines with compressible processing times, assuming that the arrival of a set of new jobs triggers rescheduling. It formulates this rescheduling problem as an assignment problem with a side constraint and proposes a heuristic to solve it. Computational tests evaluate the efficacy of the heuristic.

The Hausdorff distance is commonly used as a similarity measure between two-dimensional binary images. Since the document images may be contaminated by a variety of noise sources during transmission, scanning or conversion to digital form, the measure should be robust to the noise. Original Hausdorff distance has been known to be sensitive to outliers. Transforming the given image to grayscale image is one of methods to deal with the noises. In this paper, we propose a Hausdorff distance applied to grayscale images. The proposed method is tested with synthetic images with various levels of noises and compared with other methods to show its robustness.

This paper studied the differences of the inventories asset turnover change ratio and several characteristics variable between large and small manufacturing firm group. Large and small firm group were determined based on number of labors and asset size. Several characteristics variable of firms such as assets size, sales growth rate, return on assets, leverage ratio, credit rating and age of firm were used to find out the differences of firm group. As a result, the inventory asset turnover change ratio of large firm was 5.16% and that of the middle and small firm was 9.3%. For the large firm, sales growth rate, ROA and credit rating affect inventory assets turnover change ratio. For the middle and small sized firm, Assets size, sales growth rate and credit rating affect inventory assets turnover change ratio. Using this result, we can say that manufacturing company need to consider their firm size and their characteristics to make their own operation strategy of inventory.

Location selection of distribution centers is a crucial task for logistics operators and key decision makers of an organization. This is a multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) process which includes both quantitative and qualitative criteria. In order to propose an optimized location selection model, this research suggests a hierarchical group of evaluation criteria : 5 major criteria with 15 sub-criteria. The MCDM approach presented in this research, by integrating Grey Relational Analysis (GRA) with Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), tends to rectify the overall quality and uncertainty of the values of evaluation criteria. An example of a location selection case in Korea is illustrated in this study to show the effectiveness of this method.

In this study, we propose an efficient two-phase heuristic policy, called an acceptance tolerance control policy, for Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) cloud services that considers both the service provider and customer in terms of profit and satisfaction, respectively. Each time an IaaS cloud service is requested, this policy determines whether the service is accepted or rejected by calculating the potential for realizing the two performance objectives. Moreover, it uses acceptance tolerance to identify the possibility for error with the chosen decision while compensating for both future fluctuations in customer demand and error possibilities based on past decisions. We conducted a numerical experiment to verify the performance of the proposed policy using several actual IaaS cloud service specifications and comparing it with other heuristics.

Modern football has transformed into a scientific football based on data. With this trend, various methods for tactics studies and outcome prediction have been developed on the perspective of data analysis. In this paper, we propose a structural equation model for football game. We analyze critical factors that affect to the winning of game except psychological parts and the causal relationship between latent variables and observed variables is statistically verified through the proposed structural equation model. The results show that the Passing ability and the Ball possession affect to the Attack ability, and consequently it has a positive impact on the winning of game.

This study intends to propose a non-oriented DEA based game cross-efficiency approach for supplier selection. With a discussion on the choice of DEA models and approaches that are most appropriate for supplier selection, we propose a game cross efficiency model based upon the non-oriented variable returns-to-scale RAM DEA by adapting the existing game cross efficiency model based upon the oriented constant returns-to-scale CCR DEA. We develop the RAM game cross efficiency model and a convergent iterative solution procedure to find the best game cross efficiency scores that constitute a Nash equilibrium. We illustrate the proposed model with two data sets of supplier selection, and demonstrate that significantly different results are obtained when compared with the existing approaches.

Quality function deployment (QFD) is a useful method in product design and development to maximize customer satisfaction. In the QFD, the technical attributes (TAs) affecting the product performance are identified, and product performance is improved to optimize customer requirements (CRs). For product development, determining the optimal levels of TAs is crucial during QFD optimization. Many optimization methods have been proposed to obtain the optimal levels of TAs in QFD. In these studies, the levels of TAs are assumed to be continuous while they are often taken as discrete in real world application. Another assumption in QFD optimization is that the requirements of the heterogeneous customers can be generalized and hence only one house of quality (HoQ) is used to connect with CRs. However, customers often have various requirements and preferences on a product. Therefore, a product market can be partitioned into several market segments, each of which contains a number of customers with homogeneous preferences. To overcome these problems, this paper proposes an optimization approach to find the optimal set of TAs under multi-segment market. Dynamic Programming (DP) methodology is developed to maximize the overall customer satisfaction for the market considering the weights of importance of different segments. Finally, a case study is provided for illustrating the proposed optimization approach.

Recent university students are under a lot of stresses due to academic performance, employment, and anxiety about the future in the fierce competition. Mobile games can be used as a plan which can reduce the stresses of these students. However, if they play too long the games, it will cause another big problems. In this paper, we experimented to look for the best mobile game time to alleviate the stresses of university students as follows. First, we chose 16 people which have more stress load than the average student through stress tests by the basic diagnosis questionnaire. Second, we did total eight experiments on the stresses of the subjects in the study. That is, the experiment was carried out once before the test, 6 times for the mobile game (60 minutes), and once before the experiment. Third, we did T-test and multivariate analysis on the collecting data. As a result, it is proved that the mobile game for about 20 minutes could derive the effect on reducing stresses.

As order quantity is increased, the ordering cost per item will be cheaper due to saving of transportation and material handling costs. In this paper, two realistic assumptions such as quantity discount and budget limit are considered. Quantity discount means that all units in the order will be discounted according to the predetermined order levels. Budget limit represents that the costs for inventory investments are bounded. This paper develops a Lagrangian relaxation approach for a continuous review inventory model with a budget constraint and quantity discounts. Computational results indicate that the proposed approach provides a good solution. Sensitivity analysis is done to get some insights on budget limit and quantity discount. As budget limit or the amount of discount according to order quantity is increased, order quantity is increased, whereas reorder point is not always increased.
