        PURPOSES : The purpose of this study is to experimentally analyze the flexural strength characteristics of cement mortar mixtures simultaneously incorporated with graphene oxide (GO) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fibers, and to understand the composite effect of those on enhancing resistance against the initiation and progression of micro-cracks, as well as the control of macro-cracks in flexural behavior. METHODS : Cement mortar(w/c=0.5) specimens for flexural strength test, mixing 6 mm and 12 mm PVA fibers at 1% and 2% volume ratios, were fabricated. Additionally, specimens incorporating GO at a cement weight ratio of 0.05% were prepared for each mixture to analyze the effect of GO. Therefore total eight types of mixture were prepared. The fabricated specimens were subjected to flexural strength tests after curing in waterbath for 7 and 28 days. Concurrently, digital images for analyzing deformation in accordance with loading history were obtained at a rate of 20 Hz using the DIC technique. Through displacement and strain calculation via DIC, the flexural behavior characteristics of the mixtures combined with GO and PVA fibers were precisely analyzed. Furthermore, the composite effect on flexural behavior characteristics when GO and PVA fibers are incorporated was discussed. RESULTS : For the PVA fiber-reinforced cement mortar mixture, the incorporation of 0.05% GO increased the crack initiation load by up to 23%, and the maximum resistive load after cracking by up to 24%. Moreover, introducing GO into the PVA fiber-reinforced mixture increased the flexural strain just before cracking by approximately 30 to 50%, while the maximum resistive load after cracking exhibited similar strain levels with or without GO incorporation. Therefore, under flexural behavior, the integration of GO might delay crack initiation by increasing the strain concurrent with the rise in flexural stress before crack occurrence. It also seems to contribute to reducing crack expansion by synergistically interacting with PVA fibers after crack occurrence. CONCLUSIONS : It was experimentally examined that the flexural strength of PVA fiber reinforced cement mortar is improved by incorporating GO. Moreover, GO enhances resistance of crack occurrance and reduces crack propagation in combination with PVA fibers. This study suggests that simultaneous incorporation of GO and PVA fibers can synergistically improve the performance of cement composites.

        The global demand for raw lithium materials is rapidly increasing, accompanied by the demand for lithiumion batteries for next-generation mobility. The batch-type method, which selectively separates and concentrates lithium from seawater rich in reserves, could be an alternative to mining, which is limited owing to low extraction rates. Therefore, research on selectively separating and concentrating lithium using an electrodialysis technique, which is reported to have a recovery rate 100 times faster than the conventional methods, is actively being conducted. In this study, a lithium ion selective membrane is prepared using lithium lanthanum titanate, an oxide-based solid electrolyte material, to extract lithium from seawater, and a large-area membrane manufacturing process is conducted to extract a large amount of lithium per unit time. Through the developed manufacturing process, a large-area membrane with a diameter of approximately 20 mm and relative density of 96% or more is manufactured. The lithium extraction behavior from seawater is predicted by measuring the ionic conductivity of the membrane through electrochemical analysis.

        본 연구는 우리나라에서 발생된 57개의 땅밀림지를 대상으로 땅밀림의 내부요인인 지질특성을 분석하여 땅밀림지에 영향을 미치는 지질 인자를 찾아내기 위해 실시하였다. 발생한 57개소의 땅밀림지 규모는, 평균 폭 208.2 m (52.8m ~ 1,001.3m), 평균길이 200.3 m (22.1m ~ 920.6m), 평균깊이 3.9 m (0.2m ~ 47.8m)이었다. 땅밀림지의 지질 시대는 백악기가 23개소(약 40.4%)에서 가장 많이 발생하였으며, 경상누층군에서 가장 많이 발생하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 상관분석 결과, 땅밀림이 발생한 피해지의 폭과 길이, 길이와 깊이는 1% 수준에서 유의한 정의 상관관계를 나타내었다. 지층과 주 구성암석 그리고 누층군과 지층, 주 구성암석과는 상관분석결과 1% 수준에서 유의한 정의 상관관계를 나타내었다. 땅밀림지는 퇴적암지역이 가장 많았다. 땅밀림 발생유형은 붕적토땅밀림, 풍화암땅밀림, 점질토땅밀림, 암반땅밀림 순으로 빈도가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 땅밀림이 우려되는 지질적인 요인을 가진 지역에 대해서는 개발 등에 대한 신중한 검토와 사전 조사평가가 필요할 것으로 사료된다.

        In this paper, the pull-out characteristics of composite Z-pins with various groove shapes was investigated. The groove shape of composite Z-pins was made by applying temperature and pressure to the top and bottom of laminated composites inside the autoclave. Then, the dumbbell type of pull-out test specimen was made by applying adhesive bond. Six types of pull-out test specimens were fabricated by changing the groove length. Pull-out load and displacement sere observed for those specimens with different groove ratio. The results show that the maximum pull-out load of the grooved pin with grooved ratio 0.4 was increased up to 30.6% by comparing the plain pin. The grooved pin has a high pull-out resistance even after the fracture of the interface.

        In this study, carbon fiber Z-pins were fabricated by applying the different manufacturing process, and pull out test was performed for the dumbbell type of test specimens. Carbon fiber Z pins with smooth surface(type I) and stepped surface(type II, type III) were fabricated by using autoclave. Carbon fiber Z-pins with stepped surface were manufacturing method, that is, mold forming and machining process. The experimantal results show that carbon fiber Z pins have superior pull-out characteristics to carbon steel Z-pins. Pull-out load and pull-out toughness of carbon fiber Z pins with stepped surface are larger than those of carbon fiber Z-pins with smooth surface. Pull-out load and pull out toughness of mold f ormed Z-pin are 31% and 218% larger than those of smooth surfaced Z-pins, respectively.

        The stiffness of a bicycle frame is a major factor of a bicycle performance related to safety, stability, and weight. In this study, the torsional and bottom bracket stiffness of a bicycle frame were experimentally investigated. The torsional and bottom bracket stiffness for 63 bicycle frames were evaluated and analyzed by measuring the displacement of frames. The torsional stiffness is related with turning performance and the bottom bracket stiffness is related with power transmission. The experimental results show that the average stiffness varies up to 20 % according to the frame materials and types. The torsional stiffness has a strong corelation with the bottom bracket stiffness even though they have different effects on a bicycle frame. It seems that the experimental results can be applied to the quality criteria of racing bicycles and also design standard of a bicycle frame.

        Rolling contact fatigue(RCF) is a major cause of failure that appears in components of rolling contacts. In the recent years, the fatigue propagation and failure have been an important issue in respect of the safe operation and to reduce the noise and vibration of the rolling contact components. The water-contaminated lubrication is known to be one of the significant factors that reduces the lifetime of the rolling contact components. Thus, in this study, the effect of water-contaminated lubrication environment on the rolling contact fatigue was investigated. Bearing life testing was performed in two different lubrication conditions (i.e. normal lubrication environment and water-contaminated lubrication environment). The effect of the debirs on the rolling contact fatigue could be eliminated by establishing the debris filter system. Microscopic features of the rolling contact surfaces were examined using energy dispersive spectrometry and non-contact 3D measurement system. In the case of the water-contaminated lubrication, the increase of surface roughness values up to 17.6% was observed. The oxidation state and pattern of the rolling contact surfaces were very different depending on the lubrication environment. It was also found that the bearing rating life,   , was decreased significantly in the watercontaminated lubrication condition. The amount of reduction was about 49.7%.

        In this study, determination methods of monitoring location in water distribution system were suggested and applied to real test bed. Small block of Gwangtan water distribution system is consisted of 582 pipes, 564 junctions, 1 reservoir, and 1 pump station. Small block of Ho Chi Minh water distribution system is consisted of 162 pipes, 148 junctions, and 1 reservoir. Two small block water distribution systems were analyzed by pressure contribution analysis method to determine the optimum monitoring locations. The pressure change was estimated at each junctions by the additional demand at a junction. From the results, the optimum monitoring location can be determined by rank of pressure contribution index at each junctions due to demand change at a junction.

        Salmonellosis constitutes an important public health problem in both developing and developed countries, including Korea. The aims of present study were to investigate the serovar and antimicrobial resistance of Salmonella isolated from food animals and animal products in slaughterhouses and farms. A total of 323 Salmonella were isolated from food animals (n=277) and meats (n=46) during 2010. Of the isolates, 21 different serovars were identified. The predominant serovars were S. Rissen (35%) and S. Montevideo (24.3) in healthy pigs, while S. Enteritidis (25.5%) in healthy chicken. S. Typhimurium (88.8%) was predominant in disease pigs, while S. Gallinarum (29.2%) and S. Montevideo (26.9%) were in diseased chickens. Among meat samples, S. Typhimurium (57.1%) was the most common serovar in pork but S. Enteritidis (38.7%) and S. Montevideo(32.3%) were in chikcen meats. Analysis of antimicrobial resistance patterns revealed that 20.7% of the isolates were sensitive to all the 15 drugs tested. The isolates were frequently resistant to nalidixic acid (47.7%), tetracycline (38.4%), streptomycin (33.7%), and ampicillin (32.8%). The resistance to quinolone and 3rd generation cephalosporins was higher in chicken and chicken meat isolates. Of the 323 isolates, 174 (53.9%) were resistant to one or more CLSI subclass, and 117 (36.2%) showed multiple-resistance. Our findings showed that multiple resistant Salmonella organism are widespread in animals and animal products in Korea. To prevent the transmission or exposure for consumers of antimicrobial resistant Salmonella, policies and guidelines aiming at prudential use of critical antimicrobials for humans are needed.

        Campylobacterosis is the most common food borne bacterial disease in many countries. Food animals and animal products are considered to be the reservoir of the Campylobacter species. The aim of this study was to investigate the antimicrobial resistance of Campylobacter spp. from food animals and raw meats in slaughterhouses. A total of 90 Campylobacter jejuni (C. jejuni) and 127 Campylobacter coli (C. coli) were isolated, for which antimicrobial susceptibility was examined using broth dilution method. Resistance to macrolide antimicrobials was higher among C. coli isolates than among C. jejuni. Among both C. jejuni and C. coli isolates, the most frequently observed resistance was to nalidixic acid, ciprofloxacin, and tetracycline. No erythromycin resistance was observed among C. jejuni isolates from cattle, pig and beef. However, 28.3% (n=13) and 25% (n=3) of C. coli isolates from pigs and pork showed resistance to erythromycin, respectively. The predominant profile of multiple resistance among C. jejuni and C. coli isolates was ciprofloxacin/tetracycline/nalidixic acid resistance (46.7%) and ciprofloxacin/nalidixic acid resistance (31.5%), respectively. This finding has important implication for food safety and public health.

        Staphylococcus aureus is an important food-borne pathogen, which is present on the skin and mucosa of animals. Some of the S. aureus strains are causative agent of food poisoning syndrome. The aim of this study was to investigate the antimicrobial resistance of S. aureus isolates from raw meats in slaughterhouses during 2010. From 17,874 raw meat samples tested, a total of 190 S. aureus were isolated, for which antimicrobial susceptibility to 17 agents was examined using broth dilution method. Among isolates from beef, chicken and pork, 20 (51.3%), 20 (24.7%) and 9 (12.9%) were sensitive to all antimicrobials tested, respectively. Isolates from pork and chicken meats showed much higher resistance, compared to isolates from beef. Penicillin resistance was the most frequent among isolates from beef (35.3%) and pork (75.7%), while tetracycline resistance was among those from chicken meats (48.1%). A total of 3 methicillin resistant S. aureus (MRSA) were detected from beef (5.1%, 2/39) and pork (1.4%, 1/70). Although the prevalence of MRSA was low, the presence of antimicrobial resistant S. aureus such as MRSA suggests that further investigation and strict surveillance on MRSA and antimicrobial resistance are needed.

        In this study, the effect of milling time on the microstructure and phase transformation behaviors of Ni-12 wt.%B powders was investigated using vibratory ball milling process. X-ray diffraction patterns showed that the phase transformation of mixed Ni-B elemental powder occurred after 50 hours of milling, with a formation of nickel boride phases. Through the study of microstructures in mechanical alloying process, it was considered that ball milling strongly accelerates solid-state diffusions of the Ni and B atoms during mechanical alloying process. The results of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy showed that most of B atoms in the powder were linked to Ni with a formation of nickel boride phases after 200 hours of milling. It was finally concluded that mechanical alloying using ball milling process is feasible to synthesize fine and uniform nickel boride powders.

        Many researches on the typology of 'Maru'(Wooden deck) in Korean traditional houses have mainly focused on the high-class houses in the central region of Korea. They were mainly concerned on defining Maru's typology by social status of the owner, based on the researches regarding its physical and spatial properties. Maru in the high-class traditional houses has been served as an essential architectural feature showing the social status of owners as well as adapting in the region of humid and hot summer. This research investigated the typology of Maru's placement in traditional single houses of four Kan in Chonnam province, which shows many differences in its placement according to the regions. Research results show that the typology of Maru's placement and openness is different with the location of houses within the region. This difference affects on the circulation of movement, which eventually affects on the pattern of space use. The difference is also very likely to be affected by the natural environment of geography and climate of the region.
