        This study investigated the nutritional properties and biological activities of Ganoderma lucidum (GL). The round type of GL contained higher carbohydrate content, while the Nokgak type of GL contained higher crude ash, crude fat, and crude protein content. The most abundant amino acid, fatty acid, mineral, and soluble vitamin observed were valine (round type: 11.90 mg/g and Nokgak type: 17.18 mg/g), linoleic acid (round type: 47.56% and Nokgak type: 75.68%), potassium (round type: 116.50 mg/100 g and Nokgak type: 184.36 mg/100 g), and vitamin B3 (round type: 1.78 mg/100 g and Nokgak type: 1.81 mg/100 g), respectively. In addition, the β-glucan content were 34.15 g/100 g (round type) and 30.07 g/100 g (Nokgak type). The GL 70% ethanol extract at 40℃ showed higher radical scavenging as well as carbohydrate and lipid enzyme inhibition than other conditions. At 1 mg/mL of treatment with the 70% ethanol extract at 40℃ of round type GL, the DPPH, ABTS, hydroxyl radical scavenging, and α-glucosidase, α-amylase, and pancreatic lipase inhibition activities obtained were approximately 92.85, 99.74, 58.09, 89.68, 44.68, and 67.56%, respectively.

        The potato tuber is known as a rich source of essential nutrients, used throughout the world. Although potatobreeding programs share some priorities, the major objective is to increase the genetic potential for yield through breeding or to eliminate hazards that reduce yield. Glycoalkaloids, which are considered a serious hazard to human health, accumulate naturally in potatoes during growth, harvesting, transportation, and storage. Here, we used the AMMI (additive main effects and multiplicative interaction) and GGE (Genotype main effect and genotype by environment interaction) biplot model, to evaluate tuber yield stability and glycoalkaloid content in six potato cultivars across three locations during 2012/2013. The environment on tuber yield had the greatest effect and accounted for 33.0% of the total sum squares; genotypes accounted for 3.8% and G×E interaction accounted for 11.1% which is the nest highest contribution. Conversely, the genotype on glycoalkaloid had the greatest effect and accounted for 82.4% of the total sum squares), whereas environment and G×E effects on this trait accounted for only 0.4% and 3.7%, respectively. Furthermore, potato genotype ‘Superior’, which covers most of the cultivated area, exhibited high yield performance with stability. ‘Goun’, which showed lower glycoalkaloid content, was the most suitable and desirable genotype. Results showed that, while tuber yield was more affected by the environment, glycoalkaloid content was more dependent on genotype. Further, the use of the AMMI and GGE biplot model generated more interactive visuals, facilitated the identification of superior genotypes, and suggested decisions on a variety of recommendations for specific environments.

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of envrionmental factors on the ecological responses, yield, and quality properties and physicochemical characteristics of yacon cultivated in various regions of Korea. Experiments were carried out in eight regions from 2010 to 2013. The temperature range in Jinbu, Bonghwa, Cheolwon, and Gangneung during the growth period of yacon cultivation was 17.5-24.6°C. The total yield and marketable yield of tuberous root in Jinbu were 4,065 and 3,196 kg/10a, respectively. The sugar content of yacon tuberous roots comprised 0.11-0.20% fructose, 0.11-0.37% glucose, 0.39-0.68% sucrose, 0.07-0.37% reducing sugar, and 7.03-9.62% fructo-oligosaccharides. The content of fructo-oligosaccharides, which is a functional substance, was the highest in yacon cultivated in Jinbu. Based on the productivity and functional fructo-oligosaccharides, the optimum areas to cultivate yacon are Jinbu and Bonghwa, which are located in the middle-highland zone (500-560 m) and have a suitable growth temperature of 18-25°C. The results of the present study indicate that temperature could be the factor with the greatest influence on the root growth of yacon.

        To establish cultivation areas for the stable production of yacon, this study investigated the productivity and functional component contents of yacon in eight regions of Korea from 2011 to 2013. The results of principal component analysis using these data were as follows. A survey of 16 agricultural traits and meteorological data in the eight yacon cultivation areas showed that five factors (average temperature, maximum temperature, minimum temperature, frost-free days, and fructooligosaccharide content) were highly significant at the p < 0.001 level. Among the 16 agricultural traits and meteorological data used in the main component analysis of yacon cultivation areas, approximately eight contributed to the first principal component, and approximately four contributed to each of the second and third principal components. In particular, factors related to productivity, fructooligosaccharide content, and temperature change were considered important criteria for the classification of cultivation areas. The cultivation areas were divided into three groups by principal component analysis. In Group I, containing the Jinbu and Bonghwa areas in the mid-highland region at 500–560 m above sea level, the product yield was the highest at 2,622–3,196 kg/10a, the fructooligosaccharide content was also the highest at 9.04–9.62%, and the mean temperature was 17.3–18.5℃. In Group II, the areas Suncheon, Okcheon, Yeoju, and Gangneung, at 20–180 m above sea level, had the lowest yield, relatively lower fructooligosaccharide content, and the highest temperature. The areas in Group III showed values intermediate between those of Group I and Group II. For the different yacon cultivation areas, the product quantity and fructooligosaccharide content differed according to the environmental temperature, and the temperature conditions and number of frost-free days are considered important indicators for cultivation sites. Therefore, in terms of producing yacon with high quality, cultivation at 500–560 m is considered to give a higher yield and functional fructooligosaccharide content.

        Potato greening determines the shelf life and affects the marketability of this tuber. Various stresses during handling and storage interact to affect the tuber’s physiological status and can affect the rate of greening. This study investigated the effects of storage temperature on tuber greening and shelf life in unwashed and washed potatoes of the cultivar Superior. Physiological and biochemical changes were examined during 15 days at room temperature (23±2°C) under cool-white fluorescent light after storage for 1 month at different temperatures (4°C, 20°C). Hunter a values were negative (-) for washed potatoes after 3 days (-0.8) and 15 days (-2.5) at room temperature following 1 month of storage at 4°C while positive (+) values were observed for unwashed potatoes after 15 days at room temperature. The Hunter ΔE values of washed potatoes previously stored at 4°C for 1 month increased after 3 days at room temperature compared with those of unwashed potatoes. The total chlorophyll content of washed potatoes was higher than that of unwashed potatoes. The highest correlation was observed between the Hunter ΔE value and Hunter a value (-0.93506), while a positive correlation coefficient (0.89806) was observed between greening criteria and Hunter ΔE value by using colorimetry. We conclude, therefore, that there is a biosynthetic link between temperature-induced chlorophyll accumulation and tuber greening in storage.

        감자 수요를 확대하기 위해서는 소득 증가와 함께 소비자 의 관심이 증대하고 있는 신선편이식품으로 시장을 보다 더 넓혀 나가야 한다. 이를 위해서는 감자에 존재하는 유독 물질 인 glycoalkaloids에 대한 주의가 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 도 입품종인 대서, 수미와 최근 국내에서 개발된 하령, 고운, 홍 영, 자영 품종을 포함하여 국내 주요 24품종을 대상으로 부위 별 PGA 함량을 분석하였으며 그 연구 결과를 요약하면 다음 과 같다. 1. 총 PGA 함량(mg/100g·FW)은 하령(10.1), 수미(9.3), 홍영(7.3), 자영(6.9), 대서(4.8), 고운(3.4), 자심(3.1) 순으로 나타났다. 2. 공시품종의 껍질부위 PGA 함량은 전체 함량의 41 ~ 85% 분포를 보였으며, 국내주요 재배 품종에서 대서는 PGA 함량이 껍질(85%)에서 높고 육질 부위(0.7)에서 낮아 PGA 독성으로부터 가장 안전한 품종이었다. 3. 특히 고운, 자심 품종은 PGA 함량이 제일 낮아 껍질째 감자를 이용하기에 적절하며 중간모본으로 활용가치가 크다 고 판단된다.

        Arabis glabra is a localized common rhizomatous flowering plant, This plant is often used in Korean traditional systems of medicine as a remedy for blood cleaning, detoxification, abscess, gastrospasm, arthritis, contraction and diarrhea. Generally drugs that are used for arthritis have antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory properties. However, validity of the anti-inflammatory activity has not been scientifically investigated so far. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the anti-inflammatory potential of A. glabra using the ethanolic extract and its sub-fractions. To evaluate the anti-inflammatory effects, we examined the inflammatory mediators such as nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) on RAW 264.7macrophages. Our results indicated that hexane and chloroform fraction significantly inhibited the LPSinduced NO and PGE2 production in the cells. The hexane fraction inhibitory activity for NO tests with IC50 values showed in 21.0 ㎍/㎖. The chloroform fraction inhibitory activity for PGE2 tests with IC50 values showed in 18.0 ㎍/㎖. These efficacy are expected to be able to present the potential for the development of health functional food for the prevention inflammatory diseases because it has sufficient preventive medical possibilities. Further, it is determined that it is necessary to further study the mechanism of cytokine and protein expression associated with inflammation.

        There has been little research on the harvesting time-dependent changes in the antioxidant activities of new varieties of highland cultures of Gomchwi (Ligularia fischeri) crossed with Turcs (Ligularia fischeri (Ledeb.)) and Nakai (Ligularia fischeri var. spiciformis), namely Sammany (S), Gommany (G) and Damogy (D). This study was conducted to assess the effect of different harvesting times on nutritional and health-related properties such as total phenolic contents, flavonoids, DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrasyl) free radical scavenging activities and reducing power. From these harvests, extracts were prepared using methanol. Total phenolic content in Jul 14-G (Gommany harvested on July 14, 0.172 ㎎·GAE/㎖) was higher than that in other products harvested after the same period (S, 0.154; D, 0.141 ㎎·GAE/㎖). Flavonoid content was higher in Jul 3-G (0.114 ㎎·QE/㎖), compared to Jul 3-S (0.113 ㎎·QE/㎖) and Jul 14-D (0.089 ㎎·QE/㎖). Antioxidant activities were higher in samples harvested after June 12 in all cases. On July 14, the highest DPPH free radical scavenging activities among all harvest dates were seen (92.875~94.595%). The reducing power was also dependent on harvest day (Abs 0.5~0.6 on July 14), showing a pattern similar to that of DPPH free radical-scavenging activities. Antioxidant activity and harvesting times seem to correlate with total polyphenol and flavonoid contents.

        본 연구는 자생국화 15분류군의 휘발성 향기성분을 다변량 분석을 통해 분류학적 유연관계를 구명하여 그 분류 기준을 제시하고 조경용 및 약용 소재로 이용하기 위한 기초자료로 활용하고자 본 연구를 수행하였다. 국화속 15분류군의 잎을 대상으로 GC/MS 분석 결과, 총 45종의 휘발성 향기성분이 함유된 것으로 나타났으며, camphor, borneol, phytol, α-pinene, camphene, 1,8-cineole 및 germacrene-D 는 모든 분류군에 공통적으로 함유된 것으로 나타났다. 국화속 15분류군은 hydrocarbon류(sabinene, cymene, β-selinene), alcohol류(1-octen-3-ol, cischrysanthenol,hinesol), ketone류(chrysanthenone, camphor), 및 ester류(cis-sabiene hydrate, trans-chrysanthenyl acetate)의 휘발성 향기성분을 바탕으로 주성분 분석과 군집 분석 결과 총 3그룹으로 분류할 수 있었다. Group I은 5분류군의 구절초류를 나타내었으며, 주요 성분은 D-limonene와 m-thymol이었다. Group II는 낙동구절초, 남구절초, 넓은잎구절초, 서흥넓은잎구절초 그리고 마키노 국화로 구성되었으며, linalool와 cis-chrysanthenol, eugenol, 및 chrysanthenone이 주요 성분이었다. Group III은 감국, 흰감국, 가는잎감국, 산국, 키큰산국이었다. 특히, Group I과 II에서는 α-terpineol이 공통적으로 함유되었으나, Group III에서는 검출되지 않았다.

        This study was carried out to determine environmental factors affecting the anthocyanin content of colorfleshed potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) tubers. After planting of two color-fleshed potato cultivars of ‘Hongyoung’ and ‘Jayoung’ in different 14 locations, their soil chemical properties and meteorological data were evaluated, and anthocyanin contents of tubers were analyzed after harvest, additionally their relationship among them was analyzed through correlation analysis. In comparison with two cultivars, purple-fleshed ‘Jayoung’ potatoes showed higher anthocyanin content than red-fleshed ‘Hongyoung’ in almost locations. When locations were divided to three categories (highland, sub-highland and lowland) according to altitude, in general, highland-grown tubers had the higher content of anthocyanin compared to those grown in lowland. An analysis of the results of chemical components of soil showed that anthocyanin content of color-fleshed potato tubers was negatively correlated with the pH of soil. In addition, mean temperature and minimum temperature from 80 to 100 days after planting most significantly affected on the accumulation of anthocyanin in color-fleshed potato tubers, that is, higher content of anthocyanin was observed in tubers produced in locations with lower mean temperature and minimum temperature from 80 to 100 days after planting. This information can be useful to producers and industries in selection of proper fields for the production of color-fleshed potato tubers having high quality in Korea.

        PGA 함량 정보가 없는 유전자원을 활용한 다양한 용도의 감자 품종 개발은 괴경 내 PGA 함량을 높이는 비의도적 결과를 초래할 가능성이 있다. 이러한 배경에서 신품종에 대한 정밀한 PGA 함량 분석은 감자의 식품안전성 제고와 PGA 저 함유 품종 개발을 위한 교배 모부본 확보차원에서 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 도입품종인 대서, 수미와 최근 개발된 하령, 고운, 홍영, 자영 4품종을 대상으로 괴경 부위, 저장기간별 PGA 함량변화를 분석하였다. 그 연구 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다.
