The application of software engineering is not common in the development of astronomical observation system. While there were component-wise developments in the past, large-scale comprehensive system developments are more common in these days. In this study, current methodologies of development are reviewed to select a proper one for the development of astronomical observation system and the result of the application is presented. As the subject of this study, a project of operation software development for an astronomical observation system which runs on the ground is selected. And the output management technique based on Component Based Development which is one of the relatively recent methodologies has been applied. Since the nature of the system requires lots of arithmetic algorithms and it has great impact on the overall performance of the entire system, a prototype model is developed to verify major functions and performance. Consequently, it was possible to verify the compliance with the product requirements through the requirement tracing table and also it was possible to keep to the schedule. Besides, it was suggested that a few improvements could be possible based on the experience of the application of conventional output management technique. This study is the first application of the software development methodology in the domestic astronomical observation system area. The process and results of this study would contribute to the investigation for a more appropriate methodology in the area of similar system development.

Cheong Youn. 1999. Possessor Ascension and Multiple Nominative Constructions in Korean. Studies in Modern Grammar 17, 67-94. A number of proposals have been made for the syntactic characterization of multiple nominative constructions in Korean, where the first nominal stands in a possessor relation to the second one. This paper analyzes the structures of the two types of these multiple nominative constructions, i.e. Possessor Ascension MNCs and Focus MNCs, within the framework of standard Relational Grammar, and argues that, despite their superficial similarities, these two constructions have different syntactic structures. That is, the first nominal in Possessor Ascension MNCs is an ascended final subject. while the first nominal in Focus MNCs is a focused nominal. In order to justify this analysis, this paper shows that each nominative-marked nominal in both types of MNCs behaves differently with respect to several syntactic phenomena which make crucial reference to subjecthood.

Cheong Youn. 1998. Case Stacking Revisited. Studies in Modern Grammar 14, 125-149. In case alternation constructions in Korean, the experiencer, locative, or goal nominal can appear in either the dative case or in the nominative or accusative case. Moreover, it is possible for some Korean speakers to stack case, so that both the dative and the nominative or accusative case appear on this nominal. I accounted for this in previous work by positing two levels of case-semantic case and syntactic case-and by letting the nominal be assigned one case per level. However, Schu¨itze(1996) claims that the stacked nominative or accusative marker is focus, not case. In this paper, I review his arguments against case stacking and conclude that they are not convincing. The case stacking analysis not only handles the relevant data but in some instances does so more easily than the focus marking analysis.

Cheong Youn. 1996. he Double Dative Case Ban in Korean. Studies in Modern Grammatical Theories 9: 97-117. This paper explores data involving sequences of two dative-marked NPs in Korean. Sometimes such sequences result in the ungrammaticality of the sentence, at least for some speakers. By examining a variety of data, I propose the Double Dative Case Ban, a ban on two consecutive NPs that receive dative case from the same verb. Furthermore, I show that the DDCB applies simultaneously to case markers like eykey, ey, kkey, hanthey. This supports the view that all of these markers should be considered to be dative case markers, regardless of the differences in their form.
