        Friction dampers using the flexural deformation of shear walls can be installed as coupling beam system between two adjacent walls of shear wall structures. To verify the seismic control performance of proposed friction dampers, numerical nonlinear analysis of shear walls governed by flexural behavior is conducted. Control effectiveness of shear walls connected by beams with the proposed dampers are compared for single shear wall with same flexural rigidity. Average responses of the shear walls with the dampers are found with seven scaled-downed earthquakes based on KBC 2005 design spectrum. Slip load is the most important design parameter. It is designed to be 5, 10, 20, 30, 60, 90% of total vertical shear force at damper location to prevent damper slip in specific stories. Nonlinear time-history analysis is conducted by using SeismoSturct analysis program. Seismic control performance of the dampers is evaluated for base shear, energy dissipation and top-floor displacement. Results show that the dampers are the most effective in reducing the responses when their total slip load is 30% of total vertical shear force.

        High-rise apartments of shear wall system are governed by flexural behavior like a cantilever beam. Installation of the damper-brace system in a structure governed by flexural behavior is not suitable. Because of relatively high lateral stiffness of the shear wall, a load is not concentrate on the brace and the brace cannot perform a role as a damping device. In this paper, a friction damper applying flexibility of shear wall is proposed in order to reduce the deformation of a structure. To evaluate performance of the proposed friction damper, nonlinear time history analysis is executed by SeismoStruct analysis program and MVLEM(Multi Vertical Linear Element Model) be used for simulating flexural behavior of the shear wall. It is found that control performance of the proposed friction damper is superior to one of a coupled wall with rigid beam. In conclusion, this study verified that the optimal control performance of the proposed friction damper is equal to 45% of the maximum shear force inducing in middle-floor beam with rigid beam .

        본 논문에서는 풍하중에 대한 기존 송전철탑의 좌굴 및 구조적 안전성을 평가하기 위해서 축소부분구조 실험을 수행하였다. 원 송전철탑에 작용하는 중력 및 풍하중을 재현하기 위해서 1/2크기의 상사법칙을 적용한 축소모델의 상부에 설치된 삼각형태의 지그를 이용하여 가력하는 방법을 고안하였다. 설계하중에 대한 실험체의 안정성을 평가하기 위해서 예비수치 해석을 수행한 결과, 계산된 주주재의 축력은 허용좌굴하중의 사이에 분포하고 있음을 확인하였다. 최대허용좌굴 하중의 270%까지 가력한 결과, 주주재의 면외거동을 구속하는데 취약한 절점에서 발생한 국부좌굴로 인하여 송전철탑이 파괴되었다. 하중-변위 곡선, 변위, 부재별 변형률을 검토한 결과, 이러한 국부좌굴의 발생은 동일한 단면내에서도 휨모멘트로 인해 항복응력에 도달하는 시간이 위치별로 다르기 때문에 변형의 불균형에 의해서 발생한 부가적인 편심에 기인한 것으로 판단된다.

        This paper deals with the numerical model of a bracing-friction damper system and its deployment using the optimal slip load distribution for the seismic retrofitting of a damaged building. The Slotted Bolted Connection (SBC) type friction damper system was tested to investigate its energy dissipation characteristic. Test results coincided with the numerical ones using the conventional model of a bracing-friction damper system. The placement of this device was numerically explored to apply it to the assumed damaged-building and to evaluate its efficiency. It was found by distributing the slip load that minimizes the given performance indicies based on structural response. Numerical results for the damaged building retrofitted with this slip load distribution showed that the seismic design of the bracing-friction damper system under consideration is effective for the structural response reduction.

        가섭선 및 애자가 연결되어 있는 복잡한 구조물인 송전철탑의 3차원 모델링을 통하여 동특성을 파악하고, 풍하중에 대한 응답 특성을 정적, 동적 및 좌굴 해석을 가섭선의 절단 유무에 따라 분석하였다. 우선, 고유치해석을 통해, 송전철탑이라는 구조시스템이 일반 건축물과는 달리 극소수의 저차 모드가 구조물의 동적 거동을 좌우하지 않고, 상대적으로 많은 모드들이 동적 거동에 기여한다는 것을 확인하였다. 두 번째로, 정적 해석과 좌굴 해석을 통해, 대상 구조물이 정적인 개념의 풍하중에 대해서 구조적으로 안전하고 좌굴에 대해서도 충분한 안전율을 확보하고 있음을 확인하였다 그러나, 모든 가섭선이 단절되는 극단적인 경우에는 안전율이 상당히 낮아졌으며 이러한 경우에 구조물의 붕괴 및 전도를 방지할 대책에 대한 검토가 필요하다고 사료된다 마지막으로, 풍하중의 시간에 따른 변화를 고려한 동적해석을 통해, 풍하중의 동적 변동성분이 구조물의 응답을 증가시키고 있음을 확인하였다.

        Seismic control performance of MR dampers, which have severe nonlinearity, is different with respect to the dynamic characteristics of earthquake excitations such as magnitude and frequency contents. In this study, effects of excitation characteristics on the equivalent linear system represented by an equivalent damping ratio for single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) systems with a MR damper are investigated through numerical analysis for various natural frequencies of the structures and design parameters of the MR damper. In addition, to implement the an equivalent linearization procedure considering non-stationarity and frequency contents of the earthquake excitation, seismic response reduction factors for artificial earthquake ground motions are proposed using regression analysis of the linear structural responses. Analysis results show that the relative magnitude of the excitation compared to the friction force of the MR damper and frequency contents of the excitation affect the equivalent damping ratio considerably, and appropriate combination of friction and damping produces additional damping effect

        This paper describes dynamic characteristics of a power transmission tower consisting of lots of power lines and insulators. A numerical 3D modeling for the static, dynamic and buckling analyses of the power transmission tower is presented considering the case when the power lines are cut. Eigenvalue analysis indicates that the transmission tower shows different behavior comparing to usual structures governed by several low modes. The transmission tower is governed by lots of modes. It is verified that the transmission tower is structurally safe against the static wind and buckling loads. But the structural and buckling safety is not guaranteed when all power lines are cut, which comes to collapse the transmission tower. Further study is in need to overcome such case. Wind dynantic analysis shows that fluctuating wind loads increase the response of the tower.

        In this study, the wind response characteristics of a transmission tower are investigated through stochastic analysis considering the dynamics of a transmission line, The assemblage of the transmission line and insulator are modeled as a double pendulum system connected to the SDOF model of the tower. It is observed that the background component of the overturing moment induced by the wind response of the transmission line has considerable portion in the total overtuming moment. Based on this observation, a rotational viscoelastic damper is proposed for the suppression of the transmission line response to reduce wind load on the transmission tower. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed damper, time history analysis is conducted for various wind velocities. From the result of the analysis, the proposed damper is proved to be effective in the reduction of the background component rather than the resonance component of the support reaction of the transmission line.

        In this study, equivalent linear damping and stiffness of a single-degree-of-freedom(SDOF) structure with a rotational friction damper are estimated using the result of experiments and compared with those obtained from non-linear time history analyses. First, the transfer function of the test model is constructed and then the equivalent stiffness and damping are calculated, using the half-power bandwidth (HPB) method. For comparative study, those properties are estimated based on stochastic theory in the time domain. Both equivalent linear systems identified from experiments and numerical analyses correspond well. Further, it is observed that there exists an optimal clamping force on the rotational friction damper from estimated equivalent damping.
