        This paper explores the perceptual learning style, ideal L2 self, and motivated L2 behavior of Chinese, Japanese, South Korean, and Swedish high school students. Guided by Dörnyei’s (2005, 2009a) L2 motivational self-system, this quantitative study extends Al-Shehri’s (2009) and Tae-Young Kim's (2009a) research byreinterpreting the role of perceptual leaming styles in the creation of learners' ideal L2 self and the maintenance of their motivated L2 behavior. The statistical analysis found that learners' perceptual learning styles (i.e., visual, auditory, and kinesthetic styles) were significantly correlated with their ideal L2 self and motivated L2 behavior. However, the results of the regression analysis indicate that none of three perceptual learning styles were meaningful predictors of motivated L2 behavior. Instead, only ideal L2 self were found to be meaningful predictors of their motivated L2 behavior. The ANOVA results indicate that although the Chinese students were more likely to show motivated L2 behavior than the other students, they showed a significantly lower level of the ideal L2 self than the Swedish students. By focusing on the relationship between learners’ perceptual learning styles and motivated L2 behavior based on the L2 motivational self-system, this study provides evidence that the creation of ideal L2 selves plays a pivotal role in sustaining motivated L2 behavior .

        고온 무가습 조건에서 고분자 전해질 막의 수화성 및 수소이온 전도도 향상을 위해 sulfonated poly(aryl ether sulfone) 전해질 고분자에 sulfated ZrO2 (s-ZrO2)를 함침시킨 유-무기 복합막을 제조하였다. X-ray diffraction를 통해 s-ZrO2 의 구조적 특징과 입자크기를 확인하였으며 추가적으로 FT-IR 분석을 통해, s-ZrO2입자에 술폰산기가 화학적으로 결합되어 있음을 확인 할 수 있었다. 다양한 s-ZrO2 조성비를 가진 유-무기 복합막의 이점을 확인하기 위해서 이온교환능력, 함수율, 수소이온 전도도를 측정하였다. 실험결과, s-ZrO2의 조성비를 달리한 유-무기 복합막의 수소이온 전도도는, 5 wt% s-ZrO2를 함유한 유-무기 복합막의 경우에서, 상온 수화조건 뿐만 아니라 100℃ 이상의 무가습 조건에서 매우 높은 수소 이온 전도도를 나타내었다. 특히 120℃ 무가습 조건에서도 5 wt% s-ZrO2를 함유한 유-무기 복합막이 0.0018 S cm -1의 매우 높은 전도도를 나타냄으로써 100℃ 이상의 고온에서도 높은 수화도를 유지하는 유-무기 복합막의 제조가 가능하였다.

        ln this case study, we have focused on the disempowerrnent of a Korean English teacher (KET) in English-only classrooms. Six English as a foreign language (EFL) classrooms in a Korean high school were observed and analyzed by using interpretive discourse analysis. Out of the six classes, three representative classrl。이ns were both video- and audio - ta많d. The results show that the English-only classes co띠d weaken the KETs’ power via three mechanisms: (a) ca!ling the KETs’ last name for chor외 greetings at the beginning of the class, (b) students’ group solidarity and 야er pressure between classmates, and (c) the students' excessively collaborative approach to 야er assistance. It is argued that the exclusive Engush-oruy instruction disempowers 비e KETs’ status and dismantles their vocational identity. ln order to remedy the current situation, within a scaffolding suppαted by the eclectic use of first language where necessary for effective class management, KETs are empowered and overcome constraints imposed by the limited L2 oral competence of some non-native English teachers.

        This paper investigates the role of L2 learner beliefs in study-abroad (SA) contexts. To date, the research of learner beliefs has relied mostly on survey methods, missing qualitative, critical evaluation reflecting the learners’ voice. 8y adopting multiple qualitative research methods, idiosyncratic SA experience and learners' perception of it are reported by analyzing the data of two Korean college students experiencing changes in L2 learning beliefs and L2 proficiency before and after the SA. The data were collected through language learning autobiographies, semi-structured interviews, and stimulated recall tasks by using photos uploaded to the learners' personal web blogs. The findings show that 1) changes in L2 learning beliefs are related to thedegree of legitimate peripheral participation in SA contexts and 2) L2 learners' mode of belonging to the SA community is a useful conceptual framework for explaining their L2 learning beliefs and their sense of success in SA experience. The results suggest that the crucial factor for successful SA L2 learning may not be L2-rich contexts per se but be the learners' recognition of and appreciation for L2 participation.

        The purpose of this paper is to present a potentially useful interview template for longitudinal, qualitative ESL motivation research. For this purpose, I recruited 10 Korean ESL learners in Toronto, Canada to investigate the differential effects of three types of interviews (i.e., open-ended, semi-structured, and structured interviews) for eliciting learners’ comments on ESL learning motivation. Each participant was interviewed two or three times over four months. The interviews were audio-taped and transcribed. Thematic analyses based on Ratner’s (2002) meaning unit indicated that for initial exploratory purposes, open-ended formats are the most appropriate; whereas for subsequent investigations, semi-structured formats are the most effective. The beneficial washback experienced as a result of the interviews strongly supports the use of these methods, not only as research tools but as learning tools for enhancing learners’ metacognitive awareness of their own ESL learning and for their emotional stabilization.

        최근 가상현실 기술의 발전으로 가상의 3D 객체와 자연스러운 상호작용이 가능하도록 하는 사용자 친화적인 손 제스처 인터페이스에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 그러나 대부분의 연구는 단순하고 적은 종류의 손 제스처만 지원되고 있는 실정이다. 본 논문은 가상환경에서 3D 객체와 보다 직관적인 방식의 손 제스처 인터페이스 방법을 제안한다. 손 제스처 인식을 위 하여 먼저 전처리 과정을 거친 다양한 손 데이터를 이진 결정트리로 1차 분류를 한다. 분류된 데이 터는 리샘플링을 한 다음 체인코드를 생성하고 이에 대한 히스토그램으로 특징 데이터를 구성한다. 이를 기반으로 학습된 MCSVM을 통해 2차 분류를 수행하여 제스처를 인식한다. 본 방법의 검증을 위하여 3D 블록을 손 제스처를 통하여 조작하는 ‘Virtual Block’이라는 게임을 구현하여 실험한 결 과 16개의 제스처에 대해 99.2%의 인식률을 보였으며 기존의 인터페이스보다 직관적이고 사용 자 친화적임을 알 수 있었다.

        세계적으로 하수처리장 방류수 수질기준이 강화되고 있으며 국내 또한 하수처리장 에너지 자립율을 높이기 위해 하・페수처리장 내 고효율 혐기소화조 및 소화조 전처리 설비가 도입되면서 방류수의 수질은 향상되었다. 그러나, 농축조 및 소화조 후단에서 발생하는 반류수의 농도가 지속적으로 증가하여 하・폐수처리장 내 생물반응조 운영에 악영향을 미치고 있는 실정이다. 반류수는 발생특성상 연속적으로 발생되지 않고 간헐적・주기적으로 발생되며 슬러지 처리계통에서 배출되고 있다. 반류수 발생 시 시간 최대유량 및 농도가 수처리공정 하수유입 부하 대비 100% 이상의 부하증가를 초래하는 경우도 있어 이로 인한 생물반응조의 운영에 어려움을 겪고 있는 실정이다. 이러한 반류수 유량은 유입유량의 1~3%로 적은 양으로 발생되지만 고농도로써 수처리 공정에 충격부하를 유발하기 때문에 전체 처리효율에 악영향을 주는 것으로 알려져 있다. 또한, 질소의 농도가 높기 때문에 반류수에 의한 유입수의 질소부하 증가량은 유입 질소 부하량의 15~25% 이상을 차지한다. 이러한 반류수의 처리를 위해 생물반응조 유입 전 전처리를 통해 부하를 감소시키기 위해 응집침전 방법을 선정하였다. 이에 본 연구에서는 대구 S 하수처리장의 반류수를 대상으로 유입유량 대비 반류수의 연간 유량 및 유입 부하를 파악하였고, 고농도로 유입되는 반류수의 처리를 위해 pH, 응집제 종류, 혼화 시간 및 rpm 의 인자들을 조절하여 응집실험을 진행하였으며, CODCr, T-N, T-P, SS, NH4+의 저감효율을 도출하였다.

        It is assumed that air temperature and light intensity may influence thermal image of plants but little effort has been made to these environmental factors. We conducted this study to investigate the effects of these environmental factors on the thermal image of rice and thus to optimize the condition for thermal image acquisition for high-throughput screening of salt-tolerant rice. Rice (Oryza sativa cv. Chucheong-byeo) seedlings at the four-leaf stage were treated with 0, 50, and 100 mM of NaCl for salt stress. Thermal images (T420, FLIR, Sweden) were taken at 1 and 2 days after salt treatment under 4 different air temperatures and 3 light intensities. Thermal images were analyzed using FLIR Tools 3.1 (FLIR systems Inc., USA) and MATLAB 8.1 (The MathWorks Inc., USA). Rice leaf temperature increased significantly with increasing air temperature and light intensity, resulting in greater discrimination between salt-stressed and unstressed rice plants. Our results thus conclude that environmental conditions such as air temperature and light intensity affect rice thermal image and their optimization is essential for better image acquisition and high-throughput screening system based on thermal image analysis

        The purpose of this study was to establish a system for plant fluorescence image acquisition and to verify the possibility of plant fluorescence image analysis as a non-destructive method to screen the salt tolerance of soybean (Glycine max). Two-weeks-old seedlings of soybean at the V1 growth stage were treated with 0, 50, and 100 mM of NaCl for salt stress and plant fluorescence images were taken by CCD camera (EOS-600D, Canon, Japan) equipped with band pass filter (XNiteBPB, LPD LLC, USA) at 0, 15, 30, 60, 120 and 240 second after blue light exposure at 1 day after treatment. Red color intensity was extracted using MatLab 8.1 (The MathWorks Inc., USA) for estimation of plant fluorescence intensity. Red color intensity of soybean image decreased 0 (F0-10) to 240 (F240-250) second after blue light exposure irrespective of NaCl concentration, while F0-10/F240-250 decreased with NaCl concentration, resulting in significant relationship with plant fluorescence (Fv/Fm) and salt stress intensity. Therefore, our results suggest that our plant fluorescence image acquisition and analysis methods can be a part of high-throughput screening system for salt tolerance of soybean varieties

        Soybeans X soybeans mosaic virus (SMV) strains interactions affected plant growth and seed transmission. Strain virulence of SMV depended on host cultivars. Kwangankong and Tawonkong were susceptible to G7H and G5 strains, causing mosaic symptoms. The distribution patterns of two SMV strains in soybean plants inoculated with G7H, G5 and G7H/G5 sets were investigated by RT-PCR/RFLP analysis. In the first treatment, two primary leaves in a single plant were infected with both strains by means of one strain per leaf. The leaves of Kwangankong and Tawonkong at V2, V4 and V6 stage were doubly infected with the two strains and the upper leaves than those had only G7H strain. Secondly, the two soybeans were inoculated with G7H, and 24 h after followed by the other strain inoculation. The leaves of V6 and V8 stages in all infected plants showed mosaic symptoms caused by G7H, and there was no detection of G5 strain. In contrast, the reverse treatment with G5 and G7H induced different results. Pre-inoculated G5 strain detected in every stage besides G7H strain. Host X SMV strain compatibility influenced seed coat mottling, yield, plant height, number of pod per plant. G7H had a seed mottling rate of 98.5% in Kwangankong, while G5 had an incidence of seed mottling of 1.4% in the same cultivar. G5 was more virulent to Kwangankong and had a lower affinity for infecting soybean seed mottling. Additional inoculation of G7H protected soybean yield and growth from G5-inducing loss in Kwangankong.
