        This research focuses on the role of Giovanni Marinioni during the formation of the modern cartography and cadastre during the 18th century. Initial study began with Giambattista Nolli's Roman map noticing not much information was available to acknowledge his activities during his Milan period before the departure to Rome. It became evident that Marinoni was a key person to understand the complex circumstances in which the professional training and formation of Giambattista Nolli took place as later worked as an anonymous intern during the elaboration of Theresian Cadastre of Milan. The other important figures are Leandro Anguissola and Giovanni Filippini. Anguissola's position and precedent work facilitated Marinoni's multidisciplinary activities that he had performed in Vienna and Milano in the field of making urban maps of those two cities. On the other hand, Filippini not only collaborated with Marinoni but also introduced Nolli in the field of cartography. These activities show transitional and dual aspects that characterized the period in which important irreversible changes that occur during the reign of Habsburg empire and in the rest of the Europe toward the formation of modern society and state. Marinoni's theories and praxis greatly influenced Nolli's later commitment under the Savoia and later on the elaboration of the 'Pianta Grande di Roma' in 1748.

        "Japji" was an old cookbook written in 1721. There are 27 types of foods recorded in "Japji"; 10 descriptions of Byeonggwaryu (rice cakes and cookies): Yakgwa, Junggye, Mandugwa, Chaesugwa, Umujeonggwa, Dongajeonggwa, Baekjapyeon, Aengdupyeon, Toranbyeong, and Yeot; and 16 descriptions of Chanpumryu (side dishes): Jinjumyeon, Jeunggyetang, Geumjungtang, Eoreumtang, Changjajjim, Gajijjim, Oejjim, Dubuseon, Dubuneureumi, Geneureumi, Gesanjeok, Hodojaban, Jeonyak, Seokryutang, Sungeojuak, and Yangmandu. There is also a description of Gugija (Chinese wolfberry) liquor. Here, comparative analysis based on culinary science was carried out on the Korean foods recorded in "Japji" as well as the similar foods recorded in "Gyuhapchongseo" (Women's Encyclopedia) written around 1815. Of the 27 types of Korean foods recorded in "Japji", 13 were also found recorded in "Gyuhapchongseo". The time period for "Japji" can be assumed to be 1721 based on the fact that it is written in a cursive handwriting style of Hangeul, that chili was never used as an ingredient, and that the word "Shinchuknyeon (辛丑年)" was transcribed at the beginning of the book. The dating method also included considerations of whether Neureumi was used or not as well as changes in its cooking style.

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the underwear design shown in historical dramas set in Europe between the 16th and the 18th century, woman's bodies were highly restricted, in order to analyze the symbolism of the movie costume and provide basic data for the future education of the department of movie costume design. For a study method, literature relating to movie costumes and underwear as well as captured images from 29 historical dramas set in Europe between the 16th and the 18th century was reviewed. Among them, data from 17 movies where underwear and crinoline were observed was analyzed. Historical movies, set in the 18th century Europe exposed underwear more frequently and decisively than movies set in the 16th and 17th centuries. For the figure wearing underwear, its expression effect was maximized by the implication function of costumes. Underwear can easily express the time and space background and symbolize the character's social and economic position, attitudes, and values. In addition, the exposure of underwear can reveal characters' internal expressions, such as mental status, taste, temper, intention, mood, time and space display. The result of observing the underwear shown in movies reveals that underwear plays a subjective role in expressing ideal femininity as a woman of a particular age, modesty, social position symbolism and eroticism that depended on the situation. It is expected that the study will provide an opportunity to reconsider the function of underwear, which is different from the meaning of costume history, and its role as a means of communication by considering the change of underwear by age.

        심포니 콘체르탄테는 고전시대의 전성기인 18세기 후반에 등장한 기악음악으로 두 명 이상의 독주자와 오케스트라를 위한 다 악장 구성의 작품이다. 이 장르는 공공음악회가 활성화되어 있었던 프랑스의 파리를 중심으로 1770년경부터 발달하였으며, 초기 작곡가들은 프랑스의 작곡가들과 만하임 악파들이였다. 이 장르는 관현악 작품에서도 독주자들의 화려한 연주 기교를 보고 싶었던 당시 청중들의 취향이 반영되어진 것으로, 거의 대부분이 큰 음악회장에서 연주되었다. 따라서 당대 뛰어난 기술을 가진 연주자들과 활발한 활동을 하던 당대의 작곡가들은 파리를 중심으로 활동하였고 작품을 출판하였다.본 논문에서는 고전의 협주곡에 비하여 상대적으로 낮은 관심을 받고 있는 심포니 콘체르탄테에 관한 첫 번째 연구로, 먼저 18세기와 19세기의 이론서에서 나타나는 용어의 정의와 그 쓰임새에 관하여 살펴보고, 심포니 콘체르탄테 장르의 창시자로 알려진 프랑스 작곡가 다보의 작품과, 가장 많은 심포니 콘체르탄테를 남긴 작곡가 깜비니의 심포니 콘체르탄테 작품을 선정하여 그 첫 번째 악장을 분석하여 그 특징을 살펴보고, 또한 동 시대에 작곡된 모차르트의 심포니 콘체르탄테 작품도 분석하여 그 구조적 특징을 비교하여 본다. 이러한 분석적 비교를 통하여 고전을 대표하는 비엔나 악파 모차르트의 작품과 프랑스 작곡가들 작품 사이에서 발견되는 특징은 무엇이며, 공통점과 차이점을 구분하여 악곡 장르에 대한 보다 명확한 설명을 제공하는 것이 이 논문의 목적이다.

        This paper examines four genre paintings on the subject of child education by Jean-Baptiste-Siméon Chardin(1699-1779). The Governess, The Diligent Mother, Saying Grace, and The Morning Toilette garnered critical attention after they were exhibited in the Salon from 1739 to 1741. After the exhibition, the paintings were made into prints and frequently sold to members of the bourgeois class in Paris. The iconographical details of Chardin’s genre paintings have, thus far, been compared to Dutch genre pictures of the seventeenth century. Further, most studies conducted on Chardin’s paintings focus on formal analysis rather than the historical and social contexts. Through attempting social-contextual readings of Chardin’s educational series, this paper argues that the significance of Chardin’s painting series of child education lies in his representation of the ideal French bourgeois family and the standard of early childhood education in the eighteenth-century French Enlightenment period. In each of the four child education paintings, Chardin depicted a mother with children in a domestic space. Even though this theme derives from traditional Dutch genre paintings in the seventeenth century, the visual motifs, the pictorial atmosphere and the painting techniques of Chardin all project the social culture of eighteenth century France. Each painting in the child education series exemplifies respectively the attire of a French gentlemen, the social view on womanhood and the education of girls, newly established table manners, and the dressing up culture in a ‘toilette’ in eighteenth century France. Distinct from other educational scenes in previous genre paintings, Chardin accentuated the naive and innocent characteristics of a child and exemplified the mother’s warmth toward that child in her tender facial expressions and gesturing. These kinds of expressions illustrate the newly structured standard of education in the French Enlightenment period. Whereas medieval people viewed children as immature and useless, people in the eighteenth century began to recognize children for their more positive features. They compared children to a blank piece of paper (tabula rasa), which signified children’s innocence, and suggested that children possess neither good nor bad virtues. This positive perspective on children slowly transformed the pedagogical methods. Teaching manuals instructed governesses and mothers to respect each child’s personality rather than be strict and harsh to them. Children were also allotted more playtimes, which explains the display of various toys in the backgrounds of Chardin’s series of four paintings. Concurrently, the interior, where this exemplary education was executed, alludes to the virtue of the bourgeois’s moderate and thrifty daily life in eighteenth century France. While other contemporary painters preferred to depict the extravagant living space of a French bourgeoisie, Chardin portrayed a rather modest and cozy home interior. In contrast to the highly decorated living space of aristocrats, he presented the realistic, humble domestic space of a bourgeois, filled with modern household objects. In addition, the mother is exceptionally clad in working clothes instead of fashionable dresses of the moment. Fit to take care of household affairs and children, the mother represents the ideal virtues of a bourgeois family. It can be concluded that the four genre paintings of child education by Chardin articulate the new standards of juvenile education in eighteenth century France as well as the highly recognized social virtues between French bourgeois families. Thus, Chardin's series of child education would have functioned as a demonstration of the ideal living standards of the bourgeois class and their emphasis on early childhood education in the French Enlightenment period.

        Hakbongjongtaek(The head house of Uisong Kim family, 鶴峯宗宅), firstly built in the early 17th century, was moved to its neighboring place in the late 18th century. The man who led the relocation(移建) of the house was the eldest grandson of the family, Jong-soo, Kim. He made an overall plan and also participated in building the house. There remain four Gados(family paintings, 家圖) related to the relocation plan. This paper aims to make an analysis of these Gados, and through the analysis, to find what was the essential point of the relocation plan and how the point was represented in the paintings. The result of analysis is as follows: 1. The main focus of relocation plan was the form of Anchae(the inner house). Anchae was designed as asymmetrical form, and restricted to four kan. Only Andaechung needed to be 6 kan size for religious ceremonies. 2. For the design of Sarangchae, the displacement of large Sarangbang and small Sarangbang was an important issue. There were two ways of layout: parallel type and facing type. The latter was chosen. 3. The representation and techniques of Gado is quite concrete, in spite of differences among them. The expression of doors, windows, attic and kitchen was based on the understanding of space. Also the spatial division, which was expressed line on the grid, was based on the scaled ruler. As we've seen before, painting the relocation plan was a kind of endeavors to make the housing type as a realization of Garye. Also, we can find out that the role of the eldest grandson of the family was quite important to carry out the plan. As well as, it was meaningful to examine Sadaebu (the aristocrat of Chosun)'s perception of housing.

        본 논문은 朝鮮 正祖 16年(1792)에 刊行된 『生生字譜』를 對象으로 삼아 이에 反映된 當時의 漢字 빈도 狀況과 그것이 漢字 頻度 硏究史에서 가지는 의의에 대해 논의하고자 기획되었다. 形·音·義 외에 漢字의 第4要素라 불리는 “글자의 빈도(字頻)”는 해당 글자의 실제 사용 능력을 나타내 준다는 의미에서 漢字의 字頻硏究는 漢字 그 자체는 물론 漢字의 應用硏究에도 중요한 의의를 가진다. 이를 위해 본 논문에서는 『生生字譜』에 수록된 1만4천9백82개의 字種을 대상으로 하여 (1) 한자빈도 연구사에서 가지는 『生生字譜』의 가치, (2) 『生生字譜』에 대한 간단한 소개, (3) 『生生字譜』와 18세기 후반 朝鮮時代의 文獻用 漢字頻度, (4) 고빈도 상위 50한자의 속성 분석과 빈도 비교 등에 논의했다. 특히 (3)에서는 『生生字譜』에 수록된 부수별 자종과 주조 수량, 빈도별 글자례, 收錄字의 累積 計頻度, 收錄字의 頻度 等級 分類 등에 대해 논의했고, (4)에서는 고빈도 상위 50한자를 추출하여 이들의 품사, 선진시대 각종 역대 문헌 자료, 동한시대 실물 자료, 위진남북조 석각문자 등과의 빈도 비교를 통해 『生生字譜』가 가지는 빈도의 의의에 대해 논의했다. 다만, 『生生字譜』에 기록된 주조량이 어떤 방식에 의해 조사되고 63등급에 의해 분류되었는지, 당시의 다른 “字譜”들과의 차별성은 무엇인지에 대해서는 지속적인 연구가 필요하다.

        Seoul has been watched at its symbolic image which is the capital of one nation. since then Joseon was established. On the other hand, it is lacking in study of the individual building, the residential district, the change of building-lot. This study is to make up a deficiency from study of Gaokdohyung(家屋圖形site and floor plan). Gaokdohyung(家屋圖形) is drawings of building lots & houses existed in Hanseongbu漢城府(modem Seoul). It is possessed in Jangseogak and all 24 sheets. It is merely 24sheets but has many urban information in that. Housing of number 116 expressed in Gaokdohyung are consist on the house of Sadaebu士天王(noble class) Joongin中人(middle class) Sangmin常民(commoner), Villa(Byeolseo別墅) and connecting stores etc. Houses in Gaokdohyung has characteristic that most building lot is very specious and owners are variety of social position. The study of Gaokdohyung will progress through analyzing diachronic change of individual building lot & house. In the event, results of this study will help to find out change of urban tissue & architecture. So, i intend to seek for entity of urban tissue and urban house in Joseon Period differ from now, and to study out those have been changed continuously forward now.

        This study intends to consider about the food culture during the latterly Chosun Dynasty through the genre paintings which are depicted realistically about the total food life figures for example not only the foods, but also that people who eat and drink the food and eating implements, eating methods. There are 9 pieces of works Kim hong-do's which are the best appraisal on the incorporated Korean emotion and on the real life of general public. Those are selected for this study's characteristics through the literature consideration. The characteristics of the tableware pottery and food culture are following things. The first is a white porcelain's development and popularization. In the latterly Chosun Dynasty period, the development of the agriculture and commerce made been connected to the affluent food cultures, these made increase the porcelain's use of upper classes and these made been connected to the development of the porcelain's cultures. The second is the development of various pottery with a dark brown glaze manufactures. The development of agriculture and economy power made bring the development of the kinds of sauces and Kimchi culture with an inflow of foreign crops and these made making the large an earthenware pot or jar which could store something during the long time. The third is the development of the small dining table on the eating the bread of idleness. In the Chosun dynasty period, the food style was been unified to he eating the bread of idleness and been lowered. These made developed of various small dining table through the underfloor heating system's generalization. The fourth is the development of the spoon with the soup culture. It is the East Asia called that the spoon culture boundary, this show the characteristic that we use the spoon mainly compare with another countries. Finally, it is universal use of the fixed quantitative implements. They could live quantitative life with the scales which are jar of soy sauce, liquor jug, jar, scoop leading a set of tableware.

        Choseon Dynasty, from many aspects, saw the institutional establishment of its royal palaces in the 17th and 18th century, with 'donggwol (east palace)' as the most representative form in the era. In that period, palaces were managed in the best way that fits the royal etiquette and order to maintain the Confucian framework of the times. While the royal palace was the place for the king to conduct state affairs, it was also a compound for the royal family to lead a life in. Since the royal family was also based on the Confucian system, women in the royal palace seldom revealed their existence to outside world. Yet daebi,(a Queen Mother) who was often called 'dongjo,' enjoyed the highest level of honor not only as a member of the royal family but in the hierarchical order of the dynasty. As they often engaged themselves in political affairs, daebi raised their reputation through rites and rituals. So, in the 16th century, they largely used Changgyeong-gung palace in the eastern part of the royal compound since they sometimes had to go out of the royal residence. While it was called 'dongjo' because it was seated in the eastern part, it was also used as a word symbolizing daebi. And, therefore, it has become a general principle of royal palaces to build the palace for daebi in the eastern wing of the compound. However, the residence for daebi was not always built in the eastern part in the 17th and 18th century and, instead, edifices for daebi were sometimes erected in several points within the royal compound. Beside, daebi’s residence in this period had additional spaces for ceremonies since they had a number of official events there. Construction of daebi’s residences in this era was not confined to the symbolic institutions and they became the peculiar palaces with specific characteristics for official ceremonies of the queen mothers. Consequently, it could be said that the architectural style of dongjo, which was the place of the supreme female in the hierarchical order, stemmed from donggwol where daebi spent the longest time of the royal life.

        본고는 金昌集의 문집 夢窩集에 실려 있는 燕行塤錄을 중심으로 18세기 초 장동 김씨 일문의 燕行 체험을 고찰하였다. 연행훈지록은 김창집이 정사로, 동생 김창업은 타각(자제군관)의 신분으로 4개월에 걸친 사행 기간 동안 침식을 같이 하면서 형제가 동일한 시제나, 같은 운자로 지은 시들을 모아 놓은 것이다. 이때 운자는 대개 부친 김수항의 사행시에서 차운한 것으로, 선대의 연행의 족적을 답습하고 추체험하는 단서이기도 하다. 내용을 분석해보면 첫째로 선조와 같은 길로 연행을 하면서 유적이나 그밖에 유편들을 통해 선조를 회고하고 훌륭한 조상에 대한 자부심을 갖고 또 형제간의 공감대와 가족간의 동질성을 확인하는 것을 볼 수 있다 다음으로 비록 조공을 바치러 가지만 대표적 척화신의 자손으로서 여전히 존명의리와 배청사상을 견지하고 있음을 볼 수 있었고 다만 형제가 신분의 차이에서 오는 목적의식은 다소 다름도 확인할 수 있었다 또한 이 「연행훈지록」 에는 숙종의 御製詩가 포함되어 있는데 이는 이들 형제를 사행을 보내면서 숙종이 쓴 시로 임금의 이 명문거족에 대한 배려를 짐작할 수 있다 이들은 여기서 다시 가문의 자긍심을 갖게 된다 이로써 세기 초 장동 일문의 연행체험의 내용과 문학적 형상화의 한 면을 고구해 보았다.

        The purpose of this study is to explore the German Pietism movement, the church renewal of England and the spiritual awakening movement of America’s churches from the view point of mission history. This study found out that each movement has close relationship to each other. The above mentioned variables also had a direct influential power to the social problems. These were the facts that made churches more vital and boosted activities of churches in history. This paper analyzed the contemporary situations of the Korean churches after 100th anniversary of Pyungyang revival movement in 1907. All the Church Renewal movements for both the Korean churches and the foreign churches has one thing in common: How to get out of the past mannerism and how to get rid of those practical ways which are being performed until these days. It is very important to look back to the situations between the “Past” and the “Present” from the Pyungyang revival movement in Korea because the situations of present korean churches are similar to those of the past churches. The Afghanistan hostage incident which happened last summer 2007 left so many questions to the Korean Churches: why they could not stand for oversea missions, how crucial it is for them and what's the real cause of this problem. Because of that hostage taking, the people nowadays think that Korean churches lost their social responsibility and they think there’s no place for them outside the church. With the essential findings of this study we can predict the ways of reviving the Korean church and Church Renewal. We just need to open our mind and think about Pyungyang revival movement.

        The Chosun Dynasty in the 18th century was a period of revival for science, art, and culture, bringing about Silhak(practical science), a new trend in the history of Chosun thoughts. In the history of fine arts, realistic landscape paintings and genre paintings were popular as realism became prevalent. From the aspect of food culture, in particular, the luxurious and elegant Korean-styled food culture was completed during this period. Iwanwasuseoksihoedo was painted by Jeong Hwang (1735-1800) in 1789, depicting a banquet on an elder's 60th birthday. It is classified as a genre painting in the late Chosun Period but it contains things that comes into our heart, which are white porcelain with blue celadon pictures, white porcelain bowls, busy atmosphere of a banqueting house where food is being carried in a hurry and elders' serene appearance. All these things show the abundance of life, the room and comfort of old ages, and the beauty and relish of life in the well-arranged living ground. Hoehonyedo was painted on an elder's 60th marriage anniversary by an unknown artist presumably in the 18th century is a painting as realistic as a documentary photograph. The work gives viewers pleasure and comfort because it describes not a mighty clan but the superb later years of an official who had lived right and upright life. In the aspect of food culture, it displays the food culture of the splendid sixtieth marriage anniversary of a Korean official through noble etiquette among family members, seat planning, unique table culture and high quality tableware including white porcelain with celadon pictures and pure white porcelain.

        All technical and stylistic changes of music through the ages, reflect the changing outlook of man and the changing human society. Therefore, writing about music and its study reveals the changing attitudes to music. The word, history denotes that past events, considered in their chronological order or a record of past events. Music history has distinguishing characteristics of this as defined above with the limitation that its subject matter is confined to musical events and other events, as far as they affect musical ones or are affected by them. A historian's chief concern lies mainly on reconstruction of an accurate record of human activities and on achievement of a more profound understanding of them. For this purpose, a historian has to subject his sources to a whole series of preliminary investigations. First, he has to determine whether the sources are appropriate and adequate for the particular task in hand. Secondly, he must make sure that he fully understands what he has selected. Finally, he must try to synthesize his materials. The scientific approach to the historiography began only from the late 18th century. Before that period, the historiography was more appropriately the function of religion, of philosophy, and of literature. Historiography of the 18th century was largely inspired by the progress in the natural sciences and based on formulating the general rules governing the development of human societies. The chief features of the new historiography were a sense of the unity of all human history including non-European countries; a capacity for research about the salient features of particular periods; and preference for topics connected with the progress of human civilization. But the historiography of this period was rarely connected with universities. The continuous study of history could be developed only from the 19th century and the historical writing could be done by professional historians. Historiography eventually became a continually cooperative venture where the achievements of the previous historians could be used systematically by their successors.

        The Hwasong City Wall was built for three years(1794-1796), but the real construction term was taken only 28 months. The wall and the buildings on the wall were built simultaneously, and the esttimated construction cost was highly restricted. These conditions were main factors for considering the high efficiency of construction productivity. This study examines these factors that are reflected in the operating system of the architectural standard scale of length, the architectural composition system in the Hwasong City Wall to reduce the construction cost. Through the study, following factors are found. 1.The rule of multiple proportion is found in the relationship between the partition distance, that is, span and the height of the girder which is related to the productivity of ready-made building members. 2.The ruling grade system of scale in the component members is found in the chang-bang(창방, penetration members)

        The objective of this study is to examine the structure and transition of fertilization system in the 18th century. Especially, on the basis of this analysis, We can find the development of agricultural productivity in Chosun Dynasty. The improvement of fertilization method in the 18 century is found from all items -i,e-the time and object for fertilization, change of the concept in individual fertilizers. The transportation and the double - cropping of rice and barley in a paddy field had accomplished the improvement of fertilization method. Then, the development of agricultural productivity in a guarantee of higher fertilization method contributed directly to realize the consciousness of peasant's landownership.

        This paper attempts to study the court food based on the historic ceremony book, Jung Ri Eui Gwiea which describes the king's visit to the royal tomb, 'Hyun Neung Won', during the rein of Chung Jo, the 22th King of Yi Dynasty. According to this book, the foods used for the ceremony of the court and the courtesy of dinner party appears as follows. 1. At the birthday party of Bong-su Dang, the main table with 70 dishes and the side table of extraodinary flavor with 12 dishes were served to Mrs. Hong of Hea Kyung Kung, the mother of Chung Jo.
